Jason had been walking around, just exploring the city and trying to get his bearings. He walked down an alley, no real destination in mind besides maybe finding some plants or something to make his room feel more personalized. It was not until about a hour of exploring till he had realized that he had no idea how to find his way back to the communal housing. As he thought this, a swarm of glowing fireflies moved by, thinking perhaps they will lead him somewhere where he could get help. He starts to follow them, but as they get to far away he had started to pick up his pace, reaching out to snatch one from the group.
This leaves him several minuets later, pressed against a wall as a faint blue glow shutters in his closed hands. He's just sitting there sobbing.
