● Reserves are currently OPEN.
Applications open on March 1st.
● All threads on the test drive meme can count as game canon once the game is up and running.
● TDM threads do not count for Activity Check, but they do count for Activity Bonus Points.

Feel free to use the prompts below or create your own scenario. The setting is built to be flexible, so feel free to make things up as you go.

information resources

premisearrivalsettingask a questionnavigation

prompt i: batten down the hatches

If the sky has seemed a little more yellow-green than usual for the past couple of days, there's a reason for that. Meteorologists have been warning of a particularly nasty storm blowing in from the direction of the Delta in the Southwestern part of the Abandoned City.

The Quarantine is about to be hit by a nasty typhoon, and there's a lot to be done. Whether you're helping sandbag the banks of the river, which is bound to be swollen by the storm and flooding, weatherproofing your building, or just huddling indoors for warmth and helping reassure your friends, family, or partner that everything will be okay, it's time to take action!

prompt ii: monster madness

There's been a lot of talk around the Quarantine about the various predators and monsters outside the fence, and how they've been getting steadily more active, crowding the fences, trying to leap over them, seemingly driven by some kind of mania. There have even been increasing instances of predators that normally mind their own business attacking the fences wholesale, slamming into it over and over as if they're trying to find a weakness.

The good news? The fences have been holding. So far.

The bad news? They won't be holding for much longer.

The Perimeter Guard is in a bad way, and it's all hands on deck. They've also sent out a few of the Perimeter Guard Cadets to post up flyers around the city asking for temporary help in fighting off the beasts. So pick up whatever weapon you're best with, hop onto a truck transport, and head on over to the fences to help drive off the monsters and keep the Quarantine safe.

prompt iii: hold your lover close

With a storm rolling in that's going to keep everyone indoors, that might cause power outages, and is just frankly pretty scary, a lot of the clubs, restaurants, and hotels are doing special events to keep everyone's brains occupied and flooded with endorphins.

There are flyers around the city advertising various couples activities: speed dating, dance classes, overnight pool parties, and all-expenses-paid lovers' nights in.

The catch? The great deals only count if you're a twosome. So if you don't have someone to love, hit up speed dating in the indoor courtyard of Riverview's largest mall, or grab the first person you see and take the opportunity.

prompt iv: solution

After a day or two of storm activity, things are definitely not getting better: the rain is torrential, the monsters are attacking with increased energy and decreased rest times, and the distractions are starting to wear thin. Power outages happen off and on, a very rare situation in Riverview Quarantine.

The government has put out an all-points-bulletin imploring anyone with an exploratory spirit to help.

From what government science techs can tell, the storm isn't natural - after all, even the meteorologists were saying that the pressure systems seemed extremely strange. They've managed to narrow the cause to an area in the delta where the storm seems to be originating from, and are broadcasting the general location so anyone with the guts can head out into the storm and try to find the source of it.

Any characters who decide to penetrate the jungle in search of the source will find a device in the shape of a pyramid, with glowing blue edges about a day's walk into the Abandoned City. The pyramid is a malfunctioning weather control device that is causing wild pressure fluctuations and causing the storm as well as making the animals in the jungle aggressive and erratic. Characters can destroy or deactivate the device to end the storm.

This mission can be threaded out however you would like, in groups however large you would like, and more than one team can accomplish the goal.

prompt v: wildcard/network

Whether you're looking for help with a mission or just want to get to know your fellow new arrivals, your character can make a post to the network.

Or you can choose your own adventure and do something else in the setting!

"Virginia," Ronan answered Jason's first question.

He didn't know Gotham, but he could tell from Jason's accent that it was in New York. Ronan's was harder to place, as Henrietta was closer to Appalachia and carried a hint of a North Carolina accent on top of it. To complicate things, he attended a private school where the students and faculty attempted a more refined Virginian accent.

The corner of his mouth twitched at the epi pen comment, coming so fast after asking after Adam. Gansey never carried his on his person no matter how many Ronan threw at him. He could use more of Jason's concern instead of a cavalier attitude.

Jason didn't mean to conjure that memory, but it was hard not to hold the stream of reminders against him.

Time for the answer to the second question. "No. This is a fight. One good punch and..." He closed his hand and then spread his fingers out to mimic an explosion of some kind, presumably neurons. "Out."

[He poses an interesting question, one that Wanda considers seriously. She can't imagine a pirate not being a pirate simply because they aren't aboard a ship currently. A carpenter is still one without tools and wood...but these labels are applied due to action. Tasks a person performs. At what point does intent come into the mix? She and Steve and the others had acted against the law, but to stop the machinations of a mad, grieving man. Their intent, however noble, was tainted by the fact that they worked against the rightful law.

But then, Wanda has a history of protesting the rightful order of things, for the good of others. For her people whose country had been reduced to rubble all to often by war.

She hasn't stolen from others for her own gain, but she's certainly acted according to her own beliefs, her own moral compass however skewed it might be on occasion. It's possible she's more of a pirate by the circumstances he outlined earlier than she might have thought, she certainly doesn't exude heroism the way Steve Rogers does, but she wouldn't say it's the term that defines her best.

After a moment she nods, acknowledging his point, followed quickly by a shrug meant to say without words that she knows no better one way or the other where she falls.]

Perhaps I'll come into my own brand of piracy here, then. Maybe even assemble a crew of my own.

[Because naturally she's not about to become a pirate just to follow someone else as captain.]

Once I find something worth going after, of course.

[It feels good to have Bucky with him again. Like old times--although he tries not to think like that. Humoring that thought is a slippery slope to tragedy, and he's trying to move forward. Trying to create memories now and not get trapped by his own weaknesses. Still, being on a mission feels like home to him. And it shows in his movements: full of energy and enthusiasm for the job.]

Easy there. If we start hitting the wrong things, it might cause more trouble. We don't know how it works.

[Then again, Steve's back up plan is to smash the whole device in.]

[Hesitantly, he starts to hand Sophie a gun, but stops.]

Hold on. This isn't going to come with some sort of Faustian deal is it? Unlimited bullets for my soul or something like that?

[He's been around mysticism enough to know that sometimes, things just were not what they seemed.]

Not that I don't trust you, but if you're gonna get all magical with this, I just like to know the rules.

[He doesn't laugh, though he huffs out a breath more amused than not and acknowledges her words with a tip of his glass.]

Gold seems to be the primary motivation. So on that account, Miss, I wish you all the luck in this Godforsaken place.

[He would like to see a world where no man need choose piracy for himself. It's dark, dirty, dangerous work. Not many among them live to an age that rivals Teach or Hornigold, and they've met their due in equal measure at the point of opposing swords. But piracy serves a purpose of its own, larger than the lives lost to her beckoning knell: to keep those in power in check. When does a king become a tyrant? When none are left to oppose him.

Piracy opposes. Cruelly, surely, yet without pretense. It is perhaps the world's most honest profession. Certainly a step above politics and the intrigues of the fucking courts.]

No, but you can buy me a drink sometime. [ Both hands now spread for the gun, open-palmed and wiggling encouragement. ] The lady likes red wine, for the record.

[You'll have to excuse the look of disbelief on her face, but Wanda finds it hard to believe that a man that smiles as much as he has, has interacted with her so charmingly is known as an aggressive, angry one.

She might believe it better if she could get into his mind, but such things are a violation, and uncalled for with allies.

Her mind flits from thought to thought, following a chain, and it's not long before she wonders how much of this conversation is an act. If he's just an incredible performer hiding all of that aggression deep down. Already, she finds it unsettling to catch errant thoughts and emotions off of people that don't match what they say or their expressions on her face. Could he be better at it than everyone she's met before?]

I'll be curious to see you out in the field then, against the monsters. Maybe I'll learn something about how to channel my aggression.
batbullets: (Unhooded: Relax)

[personal profile] batbullets 2017-02-25 07:45 pm (UTC)(link)
[Jason's lips twitch in a smile of his own. It's a dry, sardonic sort of smile, but somehow charming nonetheless.] I'll take that into consideration.

[With another brief hesitation, he hands the gun over. Worse comes to worst, at least he has another gun, right?]

*Lola doesn't do speed dating, she's not exactly lacking in ability to meet people. She just... up and talks to people, it doesn't seem hard. So the idea of speed dating just baffles her. Of course, dating apps totally make sense, but that's a lot more like browsing a menu than sampling a plate. So no, her attention is on the car.*

*She stopped because she was sure her mind was playing tricks on her. It looked right but on second glance it seemed to be all the wrong dimensions. Who could drive something like this? Even she doubted that'd be comfortable, and she was tiny by average human standards. On the other hand...*

Oh you are gorgeous! Your paintjob is perfect, I love the little yellow detailing!

*She's over cooing about the car's colors. Because Lola is distracted by shiny objects. She also talks to inanimate objects regularly. She anthropomorphizes objects just as a part of her charm. She's careful not to touch and circle the car appreciating all the care and detail to it! No, no she is not aware the car can hear her, that's not the point at all.*

*Then stops to inspect her make-up and hair in the side mirror. brushing a few errant strands into place.*
lushton: how lovely you are (you don't know)

[personal profile] lushton 2017-02-25 07:52 pm (UTC)(link)
[ The sclera of her eyes starts to glow green at the same moment as the gun in her hands, the strong scent of ozone bleeding into the air like the aftermath of a storm, clean and sharp by the time the magic show dies down.

She doesn't use firearms and that would be the reason behind the way she holds it with one hand cupping the base as she aims for a leaf on the ground a few feet away, shuts her eyes, and fires off a bright green laser-like round like an uncertain amateur. She is. But! When she peeks at her handiwork, the leaf owns a brand new smoking hole. ]

Alright! I totally thought that would make it, like, disintegrate or something. Oh gosh, I'm so relieved it's not a crazy death-ray. Here you go! Infinite bullets. You are so welcome.

[ Jason can have his new and improved gun back now. ]

[Gold. Wanda huffs out a breath and takes a sip of her drink again, then shakes her head. Dismissing the thought.]

I've spent most of my life without riches, and here it seems even less important. But I'll take all the luck I can get.

[She sets her glass of rakia down unfinished. It's slipped through her, setting her nerves to fuzz, making her limbs relax. But it is sweeter than she cares for and she doesn't feel the pressing need to finish it. She could use that newfound ease and take it to the dance floor but Wanda still isn't in a hurry to return. Not yet.]

What about you? Have you thought much about what you'll do here until you return home?

Why do you always assume I'm going to punch it? You know very well that I can defuse bombs, how different can this be? [He sounds a little offended, gesticulating with one hand toward the device. It's a lot like old times, and there's a familiar comfort in it - being out in the wilderness, doing something important, bickering with his partner.]

[Adam leans back into his chair, fingers twirling his drink on the table. It's not the most comfortable of conversations, but he's willing to have it. After all, he's never had much chance to say anything about his life, before he landed here.

Still, it's not that easy.]

It was a gradual training. I was not expected to come to my full potential before I was an adult, but they wanted to make sure I got the very best exposure to everything I would need to know, at all times.

[When he thinks about it, it makes him frown, stomach tightening.] I guess... They wanted to protect me, but they also needed to control me.

[Sighing, he looks up at her.] And I've never had any friends my age, so no. I didn't get into trouble as a teen. Or ever, really, until very recently.

[steve has seen wars and aliens and a.i. hellbent on genocide. portals. he's seen enough that he shouldn't be easily rattled, but seeing the shield on someone else's back wasn't something that he ever expected. and that's not even the weirdest part.

so he maybe gravitates towards the man more than he normally would. steve has questions, so many questions, but he also knows his priorities.
]

Right. Sounds like you've already fought your share of those.

[He barely feels the thrum of the liquor in his veins, and can't abide the waste besides so he simply keeps on with his, though the pace of his consumption remains unhurried. It's with a hint of amusement - a nod to the conversant topics of moments before - that he answers,]

Perhaps I'll take up carpentry.

[He isn't one for pleasant sojourns in foreign worlds. In no incarnation of his life has he ever been a man who could abide by idle days. There are monsters, evidently, to slay. Buildings to shore up against the storms. He wants to learn as much as possible about what follows his own future, and use that knowledge like a knifeblade once he's returned to Nassau. Anything else would be a betrayal.]

I'm not leaving you like this.

[everything that they've gone through together from the 40's, hell, from before the 40's until this moment. they didn't go through it just so steve could turn his back on him now.]

If our positions were reversed, you wouldn't either. So if you're gonna hit me, you might as well take your best swing.

[Sharp brown eyes do take note of the way he shifts, puts his back to the wall. He still does that himself, a lot of the time. He has enough awareness to recognize it in others. Does the other Bucky Barnes catalogue all the entrances and exits, all the weak points and blind spots, when he so much as enters a new room? James still hasn't broken that habit.

The silence is awkward. He needs something to do with his hands, something to make himself look busy. He starts to double-check the reinforcement on the windows instead of standing around.]

I'm really too old to be tip-toeing around the elephant in the room. [It comes out a low grumble, more irritated at the situation than anything.]
anotheroldsoldier: (skeptical)

lmao yes this won't be awkward at all

[personal profile] anotheroldsoldier 2017-02-25 08:18 pm (UTC)(link)
[Working with the Avengers has jaded him. He's fought off an alien invasion, seen dinosaurs in the Savage Land, seen all kinds of abominations of science and nature alike. It's a strange, strange life he's lived. It's just as strange to think that this Steve maybe hasn't been around as much as his own.

And, in the presence of another Steve, one who doesn't maybe know the whole situation, the shield feels weighty on his left arm.]

A few. Not many, thank god. [He's fine leaving a lot of that up to the heavy hitters - Thor, Hulk, Namor.] You, uh. They didn't arm you? [Are you going to punch a giant monster, Steve. Really?]
divulsion: (064)

[personal profile] divulsion 2017-02-25 08:20 pm (UTC)(link)
[Her head tilts to the side, enjoying the lighter side of this conversation. Less personal, less emotionally fraught. She doesn't mind that he's a man that doesn't shy away from difficult topics, but there's only so much that she can handle at a time when she's reminded all too much of everything she's been through.

Giving a small huff of laughter, she picks her glass of water up once more.]

Do you enjoy working with your hands in that way? Building and creating? Perhaps you could build me a ship for my new career.

[Not that there seems to be an ocean around here. Is there such a thing as a river pirate?]
livingsymbol: ([Cap] Still judging you.)

[personal profile] livingsymbol 2017-02-25 08:29 pm (UTC)(link)
You would have if you had been here sooner.

[He catches the implication and looks back at Bucky without hesitation. The man might not want to be around him, but he's stuck now.]

Well, since you're here now, have a seat. You should dry off and rest. We don't know when we might need to move again.

[Hopefully the storm will break in a few hours, but there's no guarantee. Still, Steve tries to calm the other man and get him to sit. He's too tense.]
livingsymbol: ([S] Resting judgeface.)

[personal profile] livingsymbol 2017-02-25 08:29 pm (UTC)(link)
At least Jason is well-armed. It's better to be more prepared than helpless, and Steve doesn't blame him for wanting to be armed with everything they're up against. He travels light because he's always been able to rely on his environment and a few choice tools rather than weapons like some of the other heroes. Still, he respects the method. And he readily takes Jason's hand when he offers it, shaking it firmly.

"That's what we're here for," he agrees. "Steve. I'm glad we have you here."

He can tell that at least Jason is experienced. He's calm when he talks about the monsters in a way that isn't bluffing. It's familiar. Steve likes that.

"Okay, we're here. And it looks like we aren't a minute too soon."

The area of the fence they approach is a mess, only holding together by luck and some frantic Perimeter Guards that are trying to reinforce the spot while fending off predators. Steve doesn't see anything he'd call a monster at first, but it is clear that the damage was done by something bigger than wolves or even a bear. Great. It was still there, hiding at the edge of the trees and waiting for a chance to charge when the Guard left an opening.
livingsymbol: ([Cap] Honestly I've seen bigger.)

[personal profile] livingsymbol 2017-02-25 08:30 pm (UTC)(link)
You're doing fine. I'll tell you where to place them.

[Steve stays calm, directing her like he'd direct any other hero he was with. They're a team for now. He's willing to treat her like he does the rest of his group.]

We need to stack them up along the banks so the river won't flood us out. Use the bags to make a wall. We can help everyone fill in the gaps where they've already started.

[And, meanwhile, the rest of the people can get out of their houses now that they aren't blockaded in. Steve points to one area that is closer to the buildings and more of a danger to them.]

That side is too thin. Make sure it's tight and not just high.
diagenesis: (pic#10946386)

[It's a simple enough thing to say, my father was a carpenter. But as common a profession as it is, as unassuming as it would be and as little as it would give away, he can't bring himself to do it. He can justify a belief that Thomas would support his endeavours in Nassau, but his family? They wanted a Navy man. Had him, too, for a time. A carpenter's aspirations are not a captain's, nor a king's.

Flint lifts one shoulder in an absent shrug.]

I've dabbled. A ship would be something of a tall order, though. A shipwright is often an expert in carpentry, but not so the other way around. [Idly,] I could start with a raft.
lushton: you're it (tag)

[personal profile] lushton 2017-02-25 08:37 pm (UTC)(link)
I can't do this individually, um, Captain. It's going in bunches.

[ Only recently having felt the full-scale of her magic returning in this realm, she starts to sweat out of stress and concentration. Gotta keep the sandbags aloft and just slot a dozen here and there, sure, she can do that. When he asks her to form a compact wall, it ends up exactly so but the tension remains. Flashes of green light spring up here and there as she dumps bags wherever they look sparse.

Staying drunk might have been a better option, then she wouldn't have to care about the consequences of her actions so much. ]

I like how you think.

[Because Scott is cheap and is a huge fan of having someone else pick up the tab.

He's also a huge fan of Captain America, but, shush.

He's less a fan of whatever-even-ARE-these things? He's not sure, but this one is kind of slimy. Maybe he shouldn't try the same headlock maneuver. Why do that when he has ant-sized punching?

]
Uh. INCOMING? [Never mind that creature sailing toward you. ]
