● Reserves are currently OPEN.
Applications open on March 1st.
● All threads on the test drive meme can count as game canon once the game is up and running.
● TDM threads do not count for Activity Check, but they do count for Activity Bonus Points.

Feel free to use the prompts below or create your own scenario. The setting is built to be flexible, so feel free to make things up as you go.

information resources

premisearrivalsettingask a questionnavigation

prompt i: batten down the hatches

If the sky has seemed a little more yellow-green than usual for the past couple of days, there's a reason for that. Meteorologists have been warning of a particularly nasty storm blowing in from the direction of the Delta in the Southwestern part of the Abandoned City.

The Quarantine is about to be hit by a nasty typhoon, and there's a lot to be done. Whether you're helping sandbag the banks of the river, which is bound to be swollen by the storm and flooding, weatherproofing your building, or just huddling indoors for warmth and helping reassure your friends, family, or partner that everything will be okay, it's time to take action!

prompt ii: monster madness

There's been a lot of talk around the Quarantine about the various predators and monsters outside the fence, and how they've been getting steadily more active, crowding the fences, trying to leap over them, seemingly driven by some kind of mania. There have even been increasing instances of predators that normally mind their own business attacking the fences wholesale, slamming into it over and over as if they're trying to find a weakness.

The good news? The fences have been holding. So far.

The bad news? They won't be holding for much longer.

The Perimeter Guard is in a bad way, and it's all hands on deck. They've also sent out a few of the Perimeter Guard Cadets to post up flyers around the city asking for temporary help in fighting off the beasts. So pick up whatever weapon you're best with, hop onto a truck transport, and head on over to the fences to help drive off the monsters and keep the Quarantine safe.

prompt iii: hold your lover close

With a storm rolling in that's going to keep everyone indoors, that might cause power outages, and is just frankly pretty scary, a lot of the clubs, restaurants, and hotels are doing special events to keep everyone's brains occupied and flooded with endorphins.

There are flyers around the city advertising various couples activities: speed dating, dance classes, overnight pool parties, and all-expenses-paid lovers' nights in.

The catch? The great deals only count if you're a twosome. So if you don't have someone to love, hit up speed dating in the indoor courtyard of Riverview's largest mall, or grab the first person you see and take the opportunity.

prompt iv: solution

After a day or two of storm activity, things are definitely not getting better: the rain is torrential, the monsters are attacking with increased energy and decreased rest times, and the distractions are starting to wear thin. Power outages happen off and on, a very rare situation in Riverview Quarantine.

The government has put out an all-points-bulletin imploring anyone with an exploratory spirit to help.

From what government science techs can tell, the storm isn't natural - after all, even the meteorologists were saying that the pressure systems seemed extremely strange. They've managed to narrow the cause to an area in the delta where the storm seems to be originating from, and are broadcasting the general location so anyone with the guts can head out into the storm and try to find the source of it.

Any characters who decide to penetrate the jungle in search of the source will find a device in the shape of a pyramid, with glowing blue edges about a day's walk into the Abandoned City. The pyramid is a malfunctioning weather control device that is causing wild pressure fluctuations and causing the storm as well as making the animals in the jungle aggressive and erratic. Characters can destroy or deactivate the device to end the storm.

This mission can be threaded out however you would like, in groups however large you would like, and more than one team can accomplish the goal.

prompt v: wildcard/network

Whether you're looking for help with a mission or just want to get to know your fellow new arrivals, your character can make a post to the network.

Or you can choose your own adventure and do something else in the setting!

[That's not good.

Bucky feels the weight of someone else latch onto him and instinct takes over as if a switch has been flipped. Fighting is what he knows how to do, and he's ruthless with it. He grabs over his back to try and take hold of Yuri with his metal arm, attempting to sweep him off and literally throw him into the opposite wall in one smooth movement.]

[ It isn't in Yuri's nature to make anything easy for anyone. Bucky gets a hand on his sweater, and Yuri fights. His elbow lashes out, bashing into the other's metal arm- which only causes him to shout in pain. He's pulled further forward, momentum carrying him over the other's shoulder-

Well, he has legs.

He kicks, flails, tries to hit the other in the head as hard as he can.

[personal profile] advanced 2017-03-08 10:36 am (UTC)(link)
[One of the kicks connects with the side of his head pretty solidly, but Bucky is used to ignoring pain, he's trained extremely well in that regard. He just ignores the flailing and tries to launch Yuri across the room.

If he gets him out of the way, Bucky isn't going to stick around to make sure he isn't hurt, he's just going to run for it.]

[ Yuri crashes into the opposite wall, crying out in pain as a shoddily made bookshelf breaks his fall- in every sense of the word. It breaks under the force of Yuri hitting it, plywood splitting underneath even Yuri's slight weight, before he hits the floor. To add insult to injury, the empty bookshelf lists forward- landing with a crash over Yuri.

Underneath it, he closes his eyes. Decides not to move.

Sure. We've got time. [ Which every instinct says is running out fast. The beasts are snapping again at the edge of the fence. Dick shifts his stance as subtly as he can, edging himself between her and the probable break. She looks scared. Terrified. ]

I didn't realize we had a new Lantern. [ And she recognizes the suit, which is a start. ]

[Bucky just shrugs blandly at that loose definition of 'reasonably confident'.] Good enough for us. [Honestly it's not like Steve or Bucky have any idea what to do with the thing, so he's willing to take a best guess.

Fighting monsters, on the other hand? That, he and Steve can do. He glances at the path ahead, and slides his shield off his back and onto his left arm, metal fingers catching the light as they flex.]

We'll get you there. [He tells Michael first, and then he shoots a grin at Steve.] Hey Rogers, one who takes out the fewest monsters buys dinner?
anotheroldsoldier: (talking again)

[personal profile] anotheroldsoldier 2017-03-08 11:20 am (UTC)(link)
[Bucky might be more worried about monster blood pathogens, but he's splattered in the stuff with no ill effects so far; while he doesn't have any large gashes at the moment, he does have scrapes and small cuts scattered across exposed skin. Anyway, it doesn't seem worth panicking about without a doctor's say-so.

He nods and lets him stand. Yuri wobbles, but Bucky doesn't move to catch him unless he desperately seems to need it, and so far, he seems okay. As okay as he can be. Bucky slings his shield over his back and loads another clip into his gun, and then he picks up the bowie knife, holding it out to Yuri handle first.]
Hang on to this for now. C'mon, let's move out before the bodies draw predators.

[ He laughed despite himself at the other's words, at the idea of something else coming along to eat these things. It's not funny, he shouldn't laugh, but he does. He tries to stop, dissolves into giggles, and would cover his mouth with his hand, if they weren't both otherwise occupied. He shakes his head a little, forcing himself to calm down, to take deep breaths and stop laughing. He manages to nod, before taking the knife. ]

Sorry- [ He manages out, gripping the knife as tightly as he can with his injured arm. Switching back to English, because maybe that will make everything feel a little less real. It doesn't, but it was a nice thought. ] Sorry, it's just... its been a very strange day.

"It's a pleasure to meet you," he replies, grinning as Ray moves to take off his helmet. There were still creatures a good distance north of them, but this section of the fence is secure for now. Actually removing his headgear covers up some of his vision, so he doesn't even notice that Fatima just extended her hand and then took it back.

Without glass and metal containing his head however, Ray's short mess of brown hair blows a bit in the wind. His eyes are big too, just like his smile.

"Oh, haha- well- I heard about the attacks on the perimeter and thought I'd do my part and help." That look in his eyes couldn't be more genuine. "Can't just freeload while I'm here." And yeah, does the man ever stop smiling while he talks? Maybe not.

"You've got a sharp eye though. And a nice throw."

Fatima was a little startled. Apparently, she'd been fighting with an American James Bond. The smile and the wideness of his eyes were a bit disarming. But so was the cleft in his chiseled jaw and the perfectly-timed way his hair blew in the wind.

She did not know what to make of the guy.

"Thanks," she said. It was probably a mark of her surprise that she didn't offer a glib reply. Something like 'I know' or 'Of course I do.'

There was something entirely unlikable about this place. Fatima hated being off her game. But then...how could you play a game when you were still trying to figure out the rules?

"Where you from, Ray?" she asked.

[ Senshi was weighted down by a hefty sack, from the top of which poked the frondlike ends of a few root vegetables. It seemed, in fact, almost as big as he was (which was admittedly shorter than most of the humans about), but he didn't seem bothered by the bulk. ]

Enjoyin' the weather, eh? It's going to be a big bluster, this one.

World-saving? Is that a wizard thing?

[Post-battle fits of laughter, he's seen this a time or two himself. Sometimes if you don't laugh, you'll cry, and that's just the way it is. This kid obviously isn't used to monsters, or fighting them, or probably even killing anything.]

It's okay. Civilians usually aren't used to this kind of thing. [He says it a little wryly, his tone prodding at the fact that Yuri ended up out here at all when he doesn't have the training.] You move well, though. Some sort of athlete?

[Honestly look at him, the skepticism is entirely fair.]

More like I got caught up with a bunch of idiots and now it's my job. [Actually, something occurs to him:] Hey, what happens if I say Bureau of Balance?

[She'll hear him, perfectly normal, which is the weird part.]

Hands on her hips.]

[Ellie looks suspicious and Taako looks surprised, almost frowning as if he's trying to figure out a particularly tricky riddle.]

Huh, weird. You shouldn't be able to hear me say that.

[Does that mean the void fish can only reach a certain dimension? Is it because this girl didn't have the memories to start with, so they haven't been stolen.

For once, in his entire life, he actually wishes Johan was here.

This is something to dwell on later.]

That's who I work for, the bureau! [He pulls his sleeve back to show off the metal bracer encircling his wrist, it looks perfectly fitted for him, with no visible seam, because there isn't one.] Their whole deal is stopping everyone from like, killing each other over these wicked powerful objects.

[ He glanced at the other again, heat colouring his features as he shrugged his shoulders, swallowing over a lump in his throat. ]

That obvious? [ He asked, voice small, expression pinched- but he managed a small quirk of his lips, too. Trying not to be to embarrassed by his performance on an actual battlefield. Already berating himself for stupid mistakes, as he started to go over his actions in his head. He let out a shuddering breath, glancing away once more and gazing back towards the city. ]

A figure skater. [ He admits. It's funny, he's never been ashamed of what he does before- and it isn't that he's ashamed now, not really- it's just... different. Different from how he want to come across, not wanting to be seen as dainty or delicate like his stature. He wants to be seen as strong. ] Gold medalist in my senior grand prix debut, likely in line to join the olympic team.

[Tony deflects Steve's attempt at making peace, and the way he words it makes Steve's eyes narrow slightly in displeasure. The basic assumption in his response hurts and he can't help but speak up.]

Why would I lie about that?

[Who does Tony think he's talking to? Steve's thanks is genuine.]

Just because I don't think you can convince people here that we're dating doesn't mean I don't appreciate your help.

[After all, Tony is better at talking his way out of things. Steve's standard method is a lot less subtle.]

[There are a million things going on with this lad. Some beneath the surface, some not. James has to seriously wonder if he's ever actually taken the time to simply exist, in all idleness. He's met some tightly wound pirates, politicians and whores but never someone this young. Certainly not someone who knows how to read, but possesses no time in which to do it.]

It's a story about the devil.

[Steve's impression of Letha's world is exactly that: Thornwell, whatever that is, and Beyond. He imagines it is like the world was when he was young and dreamed of leaving his small neighborhood to see the rest of the world outside his scope.]

You mean you have servants? Does everyone in Thornwell live like that? I'd like to hear a little about your daily life and neighbors, if you don't mind talking to a stranger.

[As soon as Eddie hears what the other man's problem is, his face falls a little, and he reaches out without thinking to place his hand against his upper arm, giving it a gentle little squeeze. If he's a little surprised by the firmness and thickness of it, considering how tall the other man is, he hides it well.]

I'm so sorry to hear that. And...well, if you wanted, if you're feeling like you don't want to deal with all...this... [He waves his hand dismissively at the whole speed dating scene.] ...we could always go grab some coffee and talk or something?

[Dropping his hands to his sides, Eddie shrugs, offers a weak smile.]

I'm Eddie, by the way. Eddie Thawne.

I don't mind at all - talking to strangers is how one makes new friends.

[That, and she doesn't remember the last time she met a stranger. It's refreshing.]

My family are nobility, and the townspeople all work to benefit us in return for land in which to live. Most everyone in Thornwell is either a servant or one of my relatives, and I can't think of any exceptions to that. Our elders make laws, and our warrior guards enforce those laws... and I suppose the Queen has some say but only so far as she can budge the elders, and they're a very stubborn lot.

Not as obvious as you think. [Bucky is just perceptive, attuned. It's an ingrained habit to assess ally and foe alike, their strengths and weaknesses and reactions. He can't turn it off for the same reason he still checks every room he enters, subtly, for entrances and exits and blind spots. He's an old soldier and habits die hard.]

I never kept up with the sport. Has a lot in common with ballet, though, doesn't it? [Natasha had danced, he thinks. A cover story, no doubt, but one she sometimes still remembered as her own.] If you plan to make this a habit, come and see me. I can show you a few things. You have a decent foundation for combat.
