● Reserves are currently OPEN.
Applications open on March 1st.
● All threads on the test drive meme can count as game canon once the game is up and running.
● TDM threads do not count for Activity Check, but they do count for Activity Bonus Points.

Feel free to use the prompts below or create your own scenario. The setting is built to be flexible, so feel free to make things up as you go.

information resources

premisearrivalsettingask a questionnavigation

prompt i: batten down the hatches

If the sky has seemed a little more yellow-green than usual for the past couple of days, there's a reason for that. Meteorologists have been warning of a particularly nasty storm blowing in from the direction of the Delta in the Southwestern part of the Abandoned City.

The Quarantine is about to be hit by a nasty typhoon, and there's a lot to be done. Whether you're helping sandbag the banks of the river, which is bound to be swollen by the storm and flooding, weatherproofing your building, or just huddling indoors for warmth and helping reassure your friends, family, or partner that everything will be okay, it's time to take action!

prompt ii: monster madness

There's been a lot of talk around the Quarantine about the various predators and monsters outside the fence, and how they've been getting steadily more active, crowding the fences, trying to leap over them, seemingly driven by some kind of mania. There have even been increasing instances of predators that normally mind their own business attacking the fences wholesale, slamming into it over and over as if they're trying to find a weakness.

The good news? The fences have been holding. So far.

The bad news? They won't be holding for much longer.

The Perimeter Guard is in a bad way, and it's all hands on deck. They've also sent out a few of the Perimeter Guard Cadets to post up flyers around the city asking for temporary help in fighting off the beasts. So pick up whatever weapon you're best with, hop onto a truck transport, and head on over to the fences to help drive off the monsters and keep the Quarantine safe.

prompt iii: hold your lover close

With a storm rolling in that's going to keep everyone indoors, that might cause power outages, and is just frankly pretty scary, a lot of the clubs, restaurants, and hotels are doing special events to keep everyone's brains occupied and flooded with endorphins.

There are flyers around the city advertising various couples activities: speed dating, dance classes, overnight pool parties, and all-expenses-paid lovers' nights in.

The catch? The great deals only count if you're a twosome. So if you don't have someone to love, hit up speed dating in the indoor courtyard of Riverview's largest mall, or grab the first person you see and take the opportunity.

prompt iv: solution

After a day or two of storm activity, things are definitely not getting better: the rain is torrential, the monsters are attacking with increased energy and decreased rest times, and the distractions are starting to wear thin. Power outages happen off and on, a very rare situation in Riverview Quarantine.

The government has put out an all-points-bulletin imploring anyone with an exploratory spirit to help.

From what government science techs can tell, the storm isn't natural - after all, even the meteorologists were saying that the pressure systems seemed extremely strange. They've managed to narrow the cause to an area in the delta where the storm seems to be originating from, and are broadcasting the general location so anyone with the guts can head out into the storm and try to find the source of it.

Any characters who decide to penetrate the jungle in search of the source will find a device in the shape of a pyramid, with glowing blue edges about a day's walk into the Abandoned City. The pyramid is a malfunctioning weather control device that is causing wild pressure fluctuations and causing the storm as well as making the animals in the jungle aggressive and erratic. Characters can destroy or deactivate the device to end the storm.

This mission can be threaded out however you would like, in groups however large you would like, and more than one team can accomplish the goal.

prompt v: wildcard/network

Whether you're looking for help with a mission or just want to get to know your fellow new arrivals, your character can make a post to the network.

Or you can choose your own adventure and do something else in the setting!

[Eddie spares half a second to wince as he sees the creature swat his comrade across the face and leave a smear of blood. Thankfully, the more Eddie is inclined to feel like he needs to protect someone, the more control and calm and confidence he has.

So the next shot is a little easier, comes a little quicker, a little more instinctively - because protecting people, being a hero, is Eddie's instinct. Shifting his grip, he moves the gun a modicum to the right, and takes aim.]

Doing another on the same side! Hold on!

[And with that warning, he shoots out another of the creature's legs on the same side, leaving the creature reeling. And he holds the gun steady even as he feels a surge of worry for the guy - there's no way Eddie would be able to survive what he's doing out there.]
causational: (flirty tease)

[personal profile] causational 2017-03-11 07:57 am (UTC)(link)
I don't want to sound cocky, but you definitely made a good choice of dinner not-date there.

[Eddie can't help the bright, slightly mischievous little grin he shoots Curtis, especially when the other man's hand claps against his shoulder, and he starts off. There's no denying that, even if Eddie is not at all ready to date, not ready to even think about dating, Curtis is cute, in that lanky nerdy way that Eddie's definitely started to be able to pick out from his time helping out at S.T.A.R. Labs. And maybe appreciate a little more than he ever would've before.

When Curtis abruptly asks about half-right, Eddie laughs, bright and sudden.]

Oh, about not being gay. Half-right.

[Eddie shrugs. It's nothing he feels self-conscious about, nothing he ever has, really, not since somewhere around the end of high school. That self-consciousness was one that he shed with the pounds he lost while boxing. So he just grins and shakes Curtis' hand in return.]

Nice to meet you too. So. What kind of world did you come from? I hear there's a pretty crazy variety around here.
causational: (spider sense)

[personal profile] causational 2017-03-11 08:19 am (UTC)(link)
Cloudkill??

[It comes out a little strange, and a little broken, mostly because Eddie figures he's in some kind of shock over things that are supposed to only exist in movies he barely pays attention to existing in his direct vicinity. Eddie's eyes are wide as he watches the umbrella wave in the monster's direction and then the cloud of yellow fog around it.

Well. That's obviously poison.]

Oh. Cloudkill. I get it.

[And with that, he lifts the gun, squares his shoulders, sucks in a breath, and slowly releases it while he takes aim through the fog. A precise squeeze of the trigger, and the laser pierces the fog - only to spark some kind of explosion. The whole section of wall rattles as a fireball explodes around the monster - which is screaming in pain, now, but not quite dead - and mostly-harmlessly into the woods.]

Oh my GOD! [It's half horrified and half giddy.] Apparently science and magic are not a good combo. Or at least that poison and this laser.

[Stating the obvious? Yeah. But really, the obvious is ridiculous enough. So instead of being witty, he takes aim again, and shoots off another blast.]

Ho-ly shit!

[Note to self: Cloudkill is potentially explosive. It likely negates the long term effects of the spell, but it'd be handy in a pinch.]

Looks like a pretty good combo to me, my man, that thing isn't coming back to give us shit for a long time.

[Especially not with the second shot Eddie fires.]

That's gotta hurt.

[Bucky doesn't mind the running so much. He takes off after Steve at a jog, shield on his arm and gun at his hip. The comment from Michael gets a laugh out of him.] If this works, I'll definitely buy you dinner.

[As they break out of the trees, Bucky's scanning the clearing ahead of them with sharp eyes, doing a quick count of the myriad of strange creatures. There are several of them, of varying levels of deadliness no doubt, and Bucky pulls the handgun from his belt, checking the clip. After he's made sure it's loaded, he holds it out to Michael.]

Try to stay out of the fighting. Use this if you need it, but Steve and I will keep the way clear.

Beats the train at rush hour. [ Sure enough, there's that opposing view of the fence he was hoping to grab. And out come the bat binocs. ]

Is that magic or-?

Assuming you don't mind me asking.
livingsymbol: ([S] Brooding is manly.)

[personal profile] livingsymbol 2017-03-11 02:20 pm (UTC)(link)
[Okay, that one makes his brow furrow. He gives Bucky a look that is both questioning and vaguely insulted, but more by the fact he doesn't know what to say to that.]

Okay? I don't know what Steve you know, but I can't change who I am.

[He pulls the bag forward the rest of the way so he can collect his pear.]

You won't get anywhere if you have too many expectations.
mrterrific: (side eye)

[personal profile] mrterrific 2017-03-11 05:27 pm (UTC)(link)
That is too long and complicated a story to tell by text. The main highlights are: we worked together, we got lucky, he's dead now, and I didn't kill him.

[ He doesn't want to leave that last point unclear, even if he thinks Oliver made the right call. Still, Curtis doesn't want people assuming he's a murderer. ]

So... if demons aren't human, are they just another species? I'm asking because where I come from demons definitely aren't real. Metaphorically, sure, but they're not an actual thing.
mrterrific: (smug)

[personal profile] mrterrific 2017-03-11 05:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Wh- OH! Ohhh. Right. Got it.

[ Curtis' laugh then is self-deprecating and a little nervous, and there's no hiding the tiny little double take that he did as the information actually registered. Even if he's not even in the neighborhood of thinking about moving on from Paul, it's still good to know he's not entirely surrounded by straight people. Not that he has anything against them, but it's nice to not be alone. ]

Uh, wow. [ He laughs again - exhaling a wordless pfft sound as he looks up and tries to think how to describe his world to someone who might be from somewhere entirely different. ] It's weird trying to think how to describe it, you know? Like to me it's just... the world. Let's see. I'm from Star City, in a country called the United States of America. It's the year 2017, and we haven't really got magic or interdimensional portals or space travel. Kind of. Except we kind of do have all those things, but they're not common, like at all.

Honest to goodness deities.

[She shrugs.]

No one here has heard of them but that's what they are. They've been caretakers for our country for hundreds of years now. They weren't native to our country of course, not initially, but they're still from our world.

Who are your deities?
inlaid: (082)

[personal profile] inlaid 2017-03-11 07:31 pm (UTC)(link)
The question is this: Have you always been so adorably gullible or am I really that convincing?

As for bucking for a higher salary, I'd say you ought to and if they're not willing I bet you could make a strong argument in favor of it. I mean, people get paid for their experience as much as for what they do so obviously they're paying for your experience as a contingency.
ikols: you should fuck me tonight (& if you wanna go to heven)

[personal profile] ikols 2017-03-11 08:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Magic, yes. You have it in your universe? You've seen it before, I mean.

[ Letting go of the stranger's hand, he pokes a blue stripe on an arm. ]

What's this about, what do they call you? Blue lightning?
divulsion: (Default)

[personal profile] divulsion 2017-03-11 08:31 pm (UTC)(link)
[She's not opposed to trying something new, and while she's curious about the injury that he sustained and healed, she doesn't press the issue. Instead she thinks about her favorite ice creams, all generally basic flavors, and smiles. Shrugs.]

Most anything, but I think my favorites are...mm, strawberry, mint chocolate chip, and there's this other one that has a swirl of caramel and fudge? Oh, and rocky road, of course.

[Who doesn't love rocky road ice cream??]

What are your favorites? [Since they're talking about it.]

[He grunts, feeling wrong-footed now by this whole situation, and shifts abruptly towards the door.

He's going, he's had enough of being in here. Better the storm than Steve. Any Steve.]
advanced: (intensity)

[personal profile] advanced 2017-03-11 08:49 pm (UTC)(link)
[He's good, very good. Bucky doesn't know a lot of random people who would be able to get those shots off so well, and he's pretty glad now that this is the man that he's fighting beside.

The next two legs come off, and Bucky is ready for it. He swings around and points his gun in the creature's mouth when it opens it to scream in pain, plugging four bullets up and into its brain in quick succession. It gurgles, twitches, and then starts to collapse backwards.]

Hand!

[Bucky shouts out the command even as he's jumping, his own hand outstretched in the hope that Eddie will think fast enough to reach out and grab him to pull him back onto the platform.]
advanced: (conflicted)

[personal profile] advanced 2017-03-11 08:54 pm (UTC)(link)
[That's so strange.

He's always been taught that faith is the essence of God. It's what they told him at Sunday school when he was a kid - at least, he thinks it was - that to ask for proof was blasphemy.]

I don't have one.

[He lost his faith in God a long time ago.]

He grins, yet again, when she says thanks. And when she asks where he's from, he's eager to answer.

"Washington." Of course he gives a state name. It's a very American thing to do. "What about you?"

Even amongst the fallen bodies of large creatures who had just been attempting to kill them, Ray Palmer is still game for a get-to-know-you-conversation. But after a few seconds, no matter what they're talking about, he'll ask if she wants to head up north, to see if they need any help over there. He'd seen a few volunteers fending off a similar group of creatures, and it doesn't hurt to see if they might need some assistance.

"Nice to meet you Rick." Normally, words like that are said like the pleasantries they're meant to be, but Ray says them like he's genuinely glad to be meeting the man in front of him. Again, he did save his life just now. Ray's convinced of it.

But it's hard not to catch the way Rick spooks though, when Ray's energy weapon goes off, and he glances over for a moment before he realizes that of course, even back home, plenty of people had never seen a metahuman, or uh, um, billionnaire vigilante, up close before. Much less one with a suit with energy weapons.

"You got it," he says, with a sure nod. "Let's go."

The jungle has become soaked with the rain that's been pouring down on it, and as they make their way further into the thick of it, Ray sees now why Rick has a machete with him. Having sharp objects to cut through the brush is clearly a good idea.

We can end here!

[personal profile] dust_of_life 2017-03-12 04:42 am (UTC)(link)
It seemed right that he was from Washington. Somehow, all the weirdest people Fatima knew ended up clustered around and about Seattle.

Except for the vampires. The weirdest vampires she knew were, of course, from the UK.

Fatima definitely wanted the backstory on this guy. But now wasn't the time. Even she knew that. As much as she liked to show off--Oh, it's no problem for me to talk in the middle of battle, I can handle everything--she had reasonably straight priorities.

For now.

There would be a interrogation later.

[And Steve gets right up with him. Bucky should expect that from the man that is sticking close by. He acts as if he's just going to tag along whether Bucky asks him to or not. Especially with the storm outside.]

[Steve makes sure that this time he doesn't dash ahead of his group. It's hard to judge his own speed sometimes, but while he's providing cover for Michael he actively keeps track of him, keeping up a steady pace as they travel. He stops short when they reach the edge of the clearing, eyes moving over each of the creatures ahead, looking for the best opportunity to create an opening.]

We can draw them to the left side. We just have to keep them busy so none of them decide to follow us in.

[Realizing that his assessment might not be the most encouraging for Michael, he looks back over his shoulder.]

We won't let them in.

[That's helpful, right? Steve does pick up on Michael's reluctance and he doesn't want to discourage him. He already trusts that the man will be able to do the job. As long as he and Bucky do theirs.]

Don't worry about anything else but making it to that generator. Start going now. We'll keep them off you.

[And then he nods at Bucky.]

Plenty of targets, Cap. Don't hold back.

[ That startles a laugh out of him. ] What, does it say lightning?

[ The suit's still a fairly recent upgrade. He offers his hand back more formally. ]

I go by Nightwing.

And yeah, you could say I'm used to running with a mixed crowd. Magic's not exactly common where I'm from, but it's there. [ And unlike Batman he's never really seen a reason to argue with it's existence. ]

[Ivar turns to look at the man, an expression of delight on his face at seeing someone else who wasn't going to let the weather prevent them from being outdoors. As the wind continues to whistle, there's a loud rumble of thunder from overhead. Ivar looks back up at the sky, waiting to see if rain will follow.]

It sounds like the gods are talking.

Looks like lightning. 'Nightwing' is prettier though, like a nocturnal bird.

Loki Laufeyson, God of Mischief, Norse pantheon. You might say I'm where the magic is at.
