Feel free to use the prompts below or create your own scenario. The setting is built to be flexible, so feel free to make things up as you go.

information resources

premisearrivalsettingask a questionnavigation

prompt i: batten down the hatches

If the sky has seemed a little more yellow-green than usual for the past couple of days, there's a reason for that. Meteorologists have been warning of a particularly nasty storm blowing in from the direction of the Delta in the Southwestern part of the Abandoned City.

The Quarantine is about to be hit by a nasty typhoon, and there's a lot to be done. Whether you're helping sandbag the banks of the river, which is bound to be swollen by the storm and flooding, weatherproofing your building, or just huddling indoors for warmth and helping reassure your friends, family, or partner that everything will be okay, it's time to take action!

prompt ii: monster madness

There's been a lot of talk around the Quarantine about the various predators and monsters outside the fence, and how they've been getting steadily more active, crowding the fences, trying to leap over them, seemingly driven by some kind of mania. There have even been increasing instances of predators that normally mind their own business attacking the fences wholesale, slamming into it over and over as if they're trying to find a weakness.

The good news? The fences have been holding. So far.

The bad news? They won't be holding for much longer.

The Perimeter Guard is in a bad way, and it's all hands on deck. They've also sent out a few of the Perimeter Guard Cadets to post up flyers around the city asking for temporary help in fighting off the beasts. So pick up whatever weapon you're best with, hop onto a truck transport, and head on over to the fences to help drive off the monsters and keep the Quarantine safe.

prompt iii: hold your lover close

With a storm rolling in that's going to keep everyone indoors, that might cause power outages, and is just frankly pretty scary, a lot of the clubs, restaurants, and hotels are doing special events to keep everyone's brains occupied and flooded with endorphins.

There are flyers around the city advertising various couples activities: speed dating, dance classes, overnight pool parties, and all-expenses-paid lovers' nights in.

The catch? The great deals only count if you're a twosome. So if you don't have someone to love, hit up speed dating in the indoor courtyard of Riverview's largest mall, or grab the first person you see and take the opportunity.

prompt iv: solution

After a day or two of storm activity, things are definitely not getting better: the rain is torrential, the monsters are attacking with increased energy and decreased rest times, and the distractions are starting to wear thin. Power outages happen off and on, a very rare situation in Riverview Quarantine.

The government has put out an all-points-bulletin imploring anyone with an exploratory spirit to help.

From what government science techs can tell, the storm isn't natural - after all, even the meteorologists were saying that the pressure systems seemed extremely strange. They've managed to narrow the cause to an area in the delta where the storm seems to be originating from, and are broadcasting the general location so anyone with the guts can head out into the storm and try to find the source of it.

Any characters who decide to penetrate the jungle in search of the source will find a device in the shape of a pyramid, with glowing blue edges about a day's walk into the Abandoned City. The pyramid is a malfunctioning weather control device that is causing wild pressure fluctuations and causing the storm as well as making the animals in the jungle aggressive and erratic. Characters can destroy or deactivate the device to end the storm.

This mission can be threaded out however you would like, in groups however large you would like, and more than one team can accomplish the goal.

prompt v: wildcard/network

Whether you're looking for help with a mission or just want to get to know your fellow new arrivals, your character can make a post to the network.

Or you can choose your own adventure and do something else in the setting!

Aww, Wing of Night. You try so hard and get so far.

[ Into his hands is summoned two sandwiches. Where from? Probably some poor schmuck in the apartments having a snack, but now they're Loki's as he inspects them and offers Nightwing a choice once the green glow dies down. ]

Chicken and tomato or-rrr pork and ... ew, lettuce.
ikols: in the cobwebs and the lies (i made myself at home)

I happen to be heading in the same direction, it's nothing to do with you.

[ Dismissive in return, he shrugs with hands spread and turns to trot into the jungle down a semi-worn, unofficial path. The road can belong to her, if she's stubborn enough to take it. ]

I won't be the one getting lost, though!

It's maybe one of the few times his experience with Oliver Queen's less talkative side is working to Ray's benefit. He and Oliver are fine now, of course; Ray might even call them friends, but their personalities are nothing alike. Oliver prefers not to talk, whereas Ray sometimes can't stop talking, and the clash has given him some stray experience in picking up on certain cues. He's not exactly good at it, but he's not totally oblivious either.

There is however, a certain innocence to way that Ray already trusts Rick, because he doesn't even give a second thought to his own back when he kneels down and fully immerses himself in the blue glow of the pyramid. And he takes Rick's trust for granted too, because he's still new to doing heroics and Ray ... sometimes Ray doesn't remember the lessons he learned in the boardroom when he's out doing good with other people.

"I hope this blue light doesn't suck out my soul or something," he says, smiling and mostly to himself, when he reaches with a gloved hand to pick it up. What an interesting little contraption. The pyramid itself seems to be some kind of container, but given the way it's vibrating Ray can already tell that what he can see is just a shell. This is definitely tech of some kind.

"X-ray scan, please." And as he holds it up, his heads up display begins to scan the device. A few seconds later, he can see inside. It is definitely tech.

"Gimme a second!" he responds back, not quite a full yell but his voice a little louder since he's lost track of how far away Rick is now, and he isn't interested in pulling his focus away from the pyramid. "I wonder if there's some way to..." He's pushing, poking, turning, trying anything to see if it'll unlock.

I guess that's my cue. [ As he tries to cover over surprise with the look of someone who absolutely, definitely expected two sandwiches to spontaneously appear out of thin air. But he accepts the lettuce and pork with with delight. ]

Though I think the real question is who would order chicken with tomato?

[personal profile] bespredel 2017-03-22 06:54 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, well, you've never trained anyone like me. [ He grumbled lowly, scowling and gripping the bandages covering his injured arm just a little tighter. He glanced at the other, lips thin, before he pulled up his good arm, giving the other a thumbs up. ]

See you later, James. [ It was as much of a goodbye as Bucky was going to get out of Yuri, and he made his way over to the truck. Climbing in the back where he was directed to head back into town, and get the stitches he needed. ]
ikols: like i do (they don't give a fk about you)

[personal profile] ikols 2017-03-22 09:08 am (UTC)(link)
Someone unworthy of our respect.

[ Picking out bits of chicken to nibble on, he sips on his black coffee. An eclectic meal. ]

You know, we could do this back up at the city with better grub, home-cooked ... if you ever remove that mask.

[There is a long cut on his face, it runs underneath his eye and across his right cheek fairly deeply. It probably needs a couple of stitches.]

It's nothing.

[He's not going to bleed out via his face, and it won't impede his movements, so it's irrelevant to him.]

There'll be others coming, if you're too tired to continue then you should leave now.

[ooc: Sorry for the wait, I've been on holiday without internet for a few days.]
advanced: (reach for)

[personal profile] advanced 2017-03-22 10:33 pm (UTC)(link)
[That's an uncomfortable question, but he shakes his head pretty much immediately.]

No. I don't believe in my own God any more, I don't need to meet anyone else's.

[He sort of remembers believing, perhaps a little, but that sort of belief is long gone now.]

[ It's occurring to him now that like Raven, like Superman, like so many others he's known and fought beside, there may not really be much he can do to prevent Loki: God of Mischief, conjurer of sandwiches, from knowing exactly who Dick Grayson is the moment he runs into him out of uniform.

He doesn't know how to feel about that. He doesn't know what he can do about that possibility here, with no allies and no resources, which is the real problem at the root of all the others. There's too much here he doesn't understand. Too many variables at play. Trust is risky and painful and dangerous, when it isn't just his own secret to give away. His own safety to think about.

But does he stand a chance at getting out of here at all with no one standing by his side? ]

Tempting.

But the air of enthralling mystery would probably lose something. And I really think we have something here.

[ Mr. Air of Enthralling Mystery sure did just drop some mayonnaise on the front of his uniform. He fishes a neatly folded napkin out of another compartment with something less than perfect finesse, and offers Loki a spare. ]
ikols: you could be my cherry pie (hello pretty baby)

[personal profile] ikols 2017-03-23 01:31 am (UTC)(link)
[ Worth a try, he thinks, doing little to hide a momentary pout. ]

I'll just have to settle for your scanty costume, I suppose. How tragic. If you change your mind, [ accepting the serviette to dab at his own mouth, ] I make a mean breakfast.

[ It wouldn't be overly difficult to root out a secret identity with everyone living in the same building, if not on the same apartment floor, but Loki won't violate a potential friend's trust like that; Verity would be furious if she arrived and found out he did it for fun, not to unmask a dangerous element. And besides, Loki can enjoy that Air of Enthralling Mystery for as long as Nightwing feels the need to sustain it. Humouring Doreen Green that she isn't Squirrel Girl, as well as various other new heroes, is starting to feel like a trend. ]

Fifth Floor of that grand hotel hub, by the way. That's where I'm staying. Ignore the Avengers stationed there and everything they say, they're biased.

[ stubborn, tenacious or furious, any of those undesirable traits. she's most of them, on top of moody and guarded. being on the streets for as long as she had been, they've also saved her. ]

No one's getting lost. Stop being dramatic.

[ says the one who's good at being dramatic.

she follows at a safe distance, stalking after him like it's her duty to make sure that he doesn't do something undesirable.

[Jessica nods, taking his cue to back off for now. To say she's out of her element would be the understatement of the year and checking on how everyone else is managing sounds like a good idea, especially with the monsters in this area backing off for now.]

You mean aside from the part where I totally freaked out? [Again she smiles back, appreciative nonetheless.]

Thanks though. It's. I'm better at this with someone else. I have a partner back home and...it's weird, him not being here. [It's possible he knows Simon since Simon has been around longer but she's not going to assume.]

They're not fans of much besides justice, I'm afraid. We have a convoluted history, it's messier than a bilgesnipe's backside braids.

[personal profile] fingerstripes 2017-03-23 11:52 pm (UTC)(link)
[ He tucks the word justice away for further investigation later. History he can relate to, and anyway it seems unlikely that anyone this powerful would be sticking around an apartment building filled with true enemies. ]

Ouch. [ And he offers a sympathetic shake of the head. ]

Well, I happen to be a good listener, if you're ever up for sharing.

[ He waves the question away. ] Trust me, anyone who says they haven't been there isn't being honest.

...And, uh- yeah. I know something about that too. [ With a bashful duck of his head. As angry as he was about the Blackgate mission in the first place, it's burning him more than a little to lose the chance to settle it with Bruce, now that he's made it through. To back him up again against Gotham's near-impossible odds. It's unfair to be here instead, pulled straight out of Barbara's arms.

He stews on that for a moment, before it starts to register again how strangely the mention of a partner sits on her end. One new Green Lantern possibly slipping under the radar is theoretically possible. Two would be... ]

Anyone I know?

We've got you.

[Steve hangs back to let Michael know that with a sincere voice before taking off after Bucky. He's a few paces behind, maybe intentionally putting himself second to make sure he's standing between Michael and the threats that try to avoid the initial charge. While the first creatures goes down, Steve leaps into another one, shoulder first, knocking it back. He follows that up with a punch and ends up grappling with the thing as he hears Bucky call out, looking up to see one of the monsters managing to get close. He braces his feet and lifts the creature in front of him, throwing him at the charging enemy. He leaps in after, deploying the energy shield so he can slam into them both--and then sees that there are more of the same creatures running straight at them. Too many.]

Watch your sides, Michael!

[Even with both of them, Michael is going to have to move to stay out of danger.]

Um. [She glances around and can't see anyone even remotely in hearing distance, plus she's honestly still pretty confused where they stand on this whole identity thing. It seemed like the lanterns had their own way of dealing with stuff that wasn't the same as other heroes.]

Simon. His name is Simon Baz. We're both new but we're sorta watching over Earth right know while Hal, Guy and everyone else is dealing with something, uh in space. I think. There...hasn't been a lot of communication about it

In a way, Ray reminds Rick of Tara, always there with wit and sarcasm to fill any silence. Although, thankfully she knows when to be quiet too since sound draws Walkers in any direction. But the wit and jokiness of Ray is making Rick miss Tara and her own humor. It's both nice and not for different but obvious reasons.

As Ray works, Rick can't help but have half of his attention on the area around them and half on what Ray is doing. That suit of his is some kind of engineering marvel the likes of which Rick has never seen before. It's interesting. He's curious. But watching Ray use it to his benefit, displaying the amazing things it can do is almost a distraction. He has to remind himself to pay attention enough to keep Ray safe enough to work miracles.

Rick knows how to fix an engine or even hot wire a car, but beyond that he's useless when it comes to stuff like this.

Thankfully, he gets to prove his usefulness when two creatures come running into the clearing, all fangs and claws. Rick dispatches them quickly enough. One with the hatchet and the other with his pistol, both head shots cause that's a tried and true method of stopping most anything.

"I think they're gettin' more agitated as time passes." And they both know that this thing is what's causing it. "Not that they'd be friendlies on a good day, but... they're probably not always so aggressive. Most animals I know have a survival instinct." These are just... wild and rabid.

As Rick's said this, he's come closer to Ray again, peeking over his shoulder to see what he's doing.

Let's make it a surprise.

[He says it with a warm grin, and steps up to the bar. And while she might've said that she wouldn't mind something without coffee, he ends up ordering her a mocha with almond flavor and marshmallow fluff. After they're settled in, it's a comfortable coffee date, they chat, and eventually head over to the pool party much more at ease with each other.

It's good. It feels good. Like maybe things are going to be okay.]

Don't be a stranger, Wing of Night. It's been a while since I met a man in a mask that I didn't want to toss into a black hole.

[ coughVictorVonDoomcough Like a painting wiped off its easel, Loki teleports away with a wink and another flash of light. In his place, leftover where he stood, is a piece of parchment.
