● Reserves are currently OPEN.
Applications open on March 1st.
● All threads on the test drive meme can count as game canon once the game is up and running.
● TDM threads do not count for Activity Check, but they do count for Activity Bonus Points.

Feel free to use the prompts below or create your own scenario. The setting is built to be flexible, so feel free to make things up as you go.

premisearrivalsettingask a questionnavigation

prompt i: batten down the hatches

If the sky has seemed a little more yellow-green than usual for the past couple of days, there's a reason for that. Meteorologists have been warning of a particularly nasty storm blowing in from the direction of the Delta in the Southwestern part of the Abandoned City.

The Quarantine is about to be hit by a nasty typhoon, and there's a lot to be done. Whether you're helping sandbag the banks of the river, which is bound to be swollen by the storm and flooding, weatherproofing your building, or just huddling indoors for warmth and helping reassure your friends, family, or partner that everything will be okay, it's time to take action!

prompt ii: monster madness

There's been a lot of talk around the Quarantine about the various predators and monsters outside the fence, and how they've been getting steadily more active, crowding the fences, trying to leap over them, seemingly driven by some kind of mania. There have even been increasing instances of predators that normally mind their own business attacking the fences wholesale, slamming into it over and over as if they're trying to find a weakness.

The good news? The fences have been holding. So far.

The bad news? They won't be holding for much longer.

The Perimeter Guard is in a bad way, and it's all hands on deck. They've also sent out a few of the Perimeter Guard Cadets to post up flyers around the city asking for temporary help in fighting off the beasts. So pick up whatever weapon you're best with, hop onto a truck transport, and head on over to the fences to help drive off the monsters and keep the Quarantine safe.

prompt iii: hold your lover close

With a storm rolling in that's going to keep everyone indoors, that might cause power outages, and is just frankly pretty scary, a lot of the clubs, restaurants, and hotels are doing special events to keep everyone's brains occupied and flooded with endorphins.

There are flyers around the city advertising various couples activities: speed dating, dance classes, overnight pool parties, and all-expenses-paid lovers' nights in.

The catch? The great deals only count if you're a twosome. So if you don't have someone to love, hit up speed dating in the indoor courtyard of Riverview's largest mall, or grab the first person you see and take the opportunity.

prompt iv: solution

After a day or two of storm activity, things are definitely not getting better: the rain is torrential, the monsters are attacking with increased energy and decreased rest times, and the distractions are starting to wear thin. Power outages happen off and on, a very rare situation in Riverview Quarantine.

The government has put out an all-points-bulletin imploring anyone with an exploratory spirit to help.

From what government science techs can tell, the storm isn't natural - after all, even the meteorologists were saying that the pressure systems seemed extremely strange. They've managed to narrow the cause to an area in the delta where the storm seems to be originating from, and are broadcasting the general location so anyone with the guts can head out into the storm and try to find the source of it.

Any characters who decide to penetrate the jungle in search of the source will find a device in the shape of a pyramid, with glowing blue edges about a day's walk into the Abandoned City. The pyramid is a malfunctioning weather control device that is causing wild pressure fluctuations and causing the storm as well as making the animals in the jungle aggressive and erratic. Characters can destroy or deactivate the device to end the storm.

This mission can be threaded out however you would like, in groups however large you would like, and more than one team can accomplish the goal.

prompt v: wildcard/network

Whether you're looking for help with a mission or just want to get to know your fellow new arrivals, your character can make a post to the network.

Or you can choose your own adventure and do something else in the setting!

[really, he should be used to being caught between a rock and hard place by now. but not like this, not when he's being told to do something that goes against every fiber in his being by someone who's so hard to refuse.]

Don't make me do this, Buck. [and because he doesn't sound miserable enough:] Please.

[ She gives a bit of a sheepish smile over immediately injuring her neighbor. So much for her previous composure in the midst of preparing for a fight. But at least there's seemingly no judgment and, to follow, the attention drawn to her weapon sparks a bit of her own pride, her grin gaining a wave of confidence back. ]

About twenty seconds, give or take a few. But the lethal weight makes it worth it.

[ Allison's well aware of how unordinary her weapon choice is. But even when her father began to prepare her for making her first silver bullet as a sort of miniature family graduation ceremony, she bypassed it for a silver arrow instead. Sometimes she was just naturally drawn to the bow.

Hands returning to adjusting the string, she keeps her attention on him. ]

[ It's partly because she's fixated on tasks at hand--preparing for what could be a rather long stay in the shelter--but also because she's compartmentalized that whole chapter of her life in its own little box in the attic of her memory. All those memories of Steve and his friend were boxed up next to the memories of her brother. One had to do these things to get on, sometimes.

And right now, getting on was what needed doing.

Perhaps not quite that fast, though. ]

Do you have a way to keep yourself safe? [Who knew what was out there? She couldn't send anyone back out into that unarmed. ] I have a pistol, if you need one. [A small one, the kind a lady could easily hide, but it was lethal enough when one needed it.]

[Wanda doesn't dislike fun, but formal dance lessons or even more casual lessons in formal dancing aren't something she's typically drawn to. Like so many other activities in this city, it's something of a stepping stone. Come to this place, chat with these people, and you can do this activity that you actually want to participate in. You can see this show that interests you.

She knows how to dance but the style is something best reserved for clubs. Raves. Electronica and songs with thumping bass, things she can lose herself to, this is the kind of music she loves best.

Still, pushing herself outside of her comfort zone is a small price to pay, and she's certainly not opposed to meeting more of the other displaced. After all, hasn't she been told by her teammates, each in their own way, that there's value in learning about the people and places around her? It may not be immediately apparent but tucking away the knowledge for later can't hurt.

With this in mind, she doesn't hesitate to accept the request to dance from the man who approaches her.]

Of course, though you'd be wise to watch your toes. [She's managed one turn around the floor and while she's not clumsy, she's not particularly skilled at this style of dancing. Not yet.] I'm Wanda.

[Wanda nods at once in agreement. She's not particularly bloodthirsty, and if the monsters turn out to be no more than simple beasts she's not certain she'd want to slaughter the poor creatures off at the start. There's nothing personal in this, and for that reason it's easy for her to remain calm and steady as they travel to the outer wall.]

I won't know until we get out there and see what everyone else can do. But I don't mind drawing that kind of attention if it's somehow effective. [She looks around them, wondering which of them might have powers. If they'll lose their concentration to see her levitate or if they'll take it in stride.] Did you have something specific in mind?

[If he has a plan, some method of attack he wants to work in tandem with, then she's all ears.]

[ Hey, when it comes to Manly Friendly Competition, clearly Scott Lang is an expert.

But he's also not, you know, supersoldier serum material. He's a normal guy in a suit. ]

Nah, we need them around for an audience.

[An audience to witness Ant-Man's crushing defeat to Captain America, most likely. But more guys to fight these things, the better. What can he say? He's a team player!]

[It registers as a playful overture, and it gives him cause to quirk a faint smile mechanically, not a reflex but something deliberate. He fakes candor well.]

Between us, I think my toes can handle it.

[These dances don't have nearly enough space between participants. He's not-- uncomfortable with the nearness, but it has been quite some time since he was close to another body for some purpose other than slitting their throat or belly. Flint lacks the grasp on embarrassment that McGraw had, but he does keep his distance even as he gently cups her hand in his. There is something of Miranda in her appearance. The high cheekbones, the dark hair and the fact her eyes on him are fearless. Perhaps she was a poor choice of companion.]

James.

Hey, you! I know you! [Never mind how Scott ended up at speed-dating himself. He's not quite sure how that happened, beyond his usual Poor Life Choices.

But he does know her. Well, not really 'know' her. More like 'got punched a lot while on the same team as her'. That...counts for something, right?

[He rolls smoothly after her, his engine a bass rumble under the higher, more sibilant sounds of the wind and rain. He veritably prowls over the occasionally uneven ground between the street and the back of the house; he would be a smooth ride if anyone was inside.

His engine gives a particularly loud rev in response to the comment.]
What do I look like, a child? I can hold my transformation, thank you! [Okay, that was a little adversarial, Knock Out. He makes an effort to dial it back.] Don't worry, your second floor will be safe from me.

[By Wanda's perspective, Bucky's already been found. Bucky's been found, recovered, and he and Steve were on their way to the quinjet to head to Siberia to stop Zemo from waking the other Winter Soldiers. By her perspective, she and the rest of the team had done everything they could to give the pair the opportunity to get to that jet. They'd done what they could to hold of Stark and his side.

He looks uncomfortable by her presence, which makes her all the more unwilling to take all of it.]

You found it. It's yours. I can get my own if necessary. [If he insists, however, she'll take a little, but no, not all. She knows what it's like to be hungry and can handle it again; he has the metabolism of a supersoldier, and needs it far more than she does.] I didn't know you were here.

You have done this before.

batten down the hatches;
The wind was picking up, and though the weather here was strange, Amir could still feel the changes in the air. In the morning, it felt as though the ends of her hair were all standing up on end. She helped as she could, but sooner or later found herself drawn outside despite the cold.

The sky looked the color of newly-arrived spring greens, when burgeoning sprouts rose at last to meet the yellow sun. On impulse, Amir climbed lightfooted up a row of sandbags to take in the sight of the river. She could see more, feel more from up here!

solution;
Amir kept herself busy, taking on informal turns watching the fences but also spending time inside, making large batches of flatbreads, dumplings, and other dishes heavy with meat and cheese. Though some might eschew such things during busy times, it was important to keep up both strength and heart -- food was an integral part of that, and surely others would take on the cause of the disturbance. The perimeter guards, for instance?

Yet she felt unrest. Distracted, as she handed a plate of food to a neighbor. "If anyone can help..." she said to herself.

[Wanda's not shaken by the turbulence, but she's glad that she's not sitting next to someone more prickly. Some of the protesters in Sokovia had a certain kind of energy about them before heading out, as if they were just waiting to knock the head off the first person to look at them wrong. It seems that the guy next to her wasn't one of those sorts. Either he didn't know what they were heading into or he was used to it, she supposed. Or just good at handling pre-battle nerves?

She gives him a smile back, less charm, perhaps, but it's there all the same.]
I'm fine, thank you. [She's just going to carefully get a better hold of her seat so she doesn't bounce all over the place.] I can't say that I've fought monsters before, however. Did they tell you anything about them before we left?
divulsion: (cacw (16))

[personal profile] divulsion 2017-02-24 04:33 am (UTC)(link)
[Wanda would find herself more comfortable with closeness in another context. She's well accustomed to the training sessions back at the Avengers' compound, learning hand to hand combat on the mats with Natasha and Clint. The grappling, the throwing. She's used to that.

This isn't terrible, however. He seems to have a better grasp on how to hold himself and where his hands go than she does. Determined not to waste the opportunity even if it isn't part of her ultimate goal, she focuses on her own positioning and hand placement. And idly, she wonders if Pietro would have ever danced like this if he were here, if he ever would have learned with her if he were still alive.]

Well, James, where are you from?

[Her own accent is faint compared to his, but she can make an educated guess as to his origins. Of course, she's learned recently that home isn't always the country that you were born in. Not forever.]

[There's a familiar voice. Wanda blinks and looks over at none other than Scott Lang. Scott, who she didn't know was here. Scott, who is now standing there at the same speed dating event. She smiles despite herself, there's something about Scott and the way he goes through life that keeps things lighter. Easier.]

And I know you as well. I didn't expect to see you here, however. You must have arrived here not long ago.

[Both of the men he's been are indisputably British. Home was his mother's hovel, his father's work-bench, his Navy bunk, a bed shared by two other warm bodies, and then the Walrus. Nassau is not his hearthstone. It's barely more a place that he's weighed anchor. Thomas' dream. Not his. He only made it so through will and cold steel, gold and death enough to fill a bloody, frothing sea. Dreams and nightmares are synergistic when they're all there is to drive you.

Nassau is not his home, but he will be its fucking king. Flint inclines his head to one side faintly.]

That moment when you had all of your pieces lined up and the moment she and her team got to the first step, everything fell apart. Thank the deities she thinks quickly on her feet, adapts with the changing situations gracefully more often than not.]

Nice to meet you, Illya.

[An honest statement, one she gives with a faint smile that reaches her eyes. He intrigues her, even if it's just for the space of this trip.]

[Speed dating hadn't really been what he intended when he came into this part of the mall. He'd mostly been looking for something to pass the time, something to keep his mind off of everything that had happened at home, the kidnapping, his death, everything with Iris and Barry and all the rest.

Now that the city is ready for the storm, it feels like there's nothing left to do to keep him occupied except learning the lay of the land, getting his bearings. It's not like him to be depressed, but dwelling is something he's been doing a lot of lately, so it seems like getting his mind off things is for the best.

But he wasn't expecting speed dating. The moment he walk in and realizes, he hesitates, because there it is, the pang of guilt. So when the girl speaks to him, he starts a little, the expression on his face is more than a little sheepish.]

[He prefers tactics. Stratagems that are crisp and identifiable. The knight on b8 moves to c6. But the world is not made of lines and colour. Chess is bloodless. He knows better than to expect the reality of the thing it mimics to be so.]
