Magnus sensed it, too, though it was difficult to put his finger on the change. The way that Alec hauled him in with the kind of easy confidence that seemed to speak of a long relationship could have been attributed to the unfamiliar situation that they'd found themselves in. Kissing in public wasn't entirely unheard of for Alec, and the fact that it was a reunion might have helped him not to care about whether or not strangers watched them as they kissed in the rain.

Shivering at the teeth on his lip, Magnus pressed their foreheads together and felt him readjusting his world for the second time in the last few days. He'd been prepared to live without Alec, something he hadn't thought he'd need to come to terms with so quickly. And yet here he was, another testament to how tightly entangled their fates were with one another. "Lucky me, then," he said with a genuine smile thought it held some tentativeness as if he wasn't sure if Alec would live out that promise.

He chuckled and kissed Alec again, simply to see if he would allow the indulgence. "You're not always grumpy," he pointed out as he smiled up at him. "But I'm not going to advertise that and invite competition. No one is going to steal you if I have anything to say about it."
