Breaking a language is just like breaking another code. There are patterns in it and thinking of it as a language or not won't make it take longer to figure out what it is. It's actually really interesting how similarities between languages span across civilizations that have never communicated with each other. I wrote a paper about it in college. Turns out the human brain is wired to quantify things in similar ways that aren't altered by culture differences.
