Biologically speaking, cloning a living organism doesn't work that way. A clone is a genetic copy, not an exact copy. It's more accurate to say that every iteration of me has been equally Catherine. I'm not Catherine's clone, I am Catherine.

If that weren't the case, I wouldn't have bothered with my project. I was trying to scan all the remaining humans before they died, so they could live on somehow.

So ... Yes, they have to be alive; I need active brainwaves to scan.
