● Reserves are currently OPEN.
Applications open on March 1st.
● All threads on the test drive meme can count as game canon once the game is up and running.
● TDM threads do not count for Activity Check, but they do count for Activity Bonus Points.

Feel free to use the prompts below or create your own scenario. The setting is built to be flexible, so feel free to make things up as you go.

information resources

premisearrivalsettingask a questionnavigation

prompt i: batten down the hatches

If the sky has seemed a little more yellow-green than usual for the past couple of days, there's a reason for that. Meteorologists have been warning of a particularly nasty storm blowing in from the direction of the Delta in the Southwestern part of the Abandoned City.

The Quarantine is about to be hit by a nasty typhoon, and there's a lot to be done. Whether you're helping sandbag the banks of the river, which is bound to be swollen by the storm and flooding, weatherproofing your building, or just huddling indoors for warmth and helping reassure your friends, family, or partner that everything will be okay, it's time to take action!

prompt ii: monster madness

There's been a lot of talk around the Quarantine about the various predators and monsters outside the fence, and how they've been getting steadily more active, crowding the fences, trying to leap over them, seemingly driven by some kind of mania. There have even been increasing instances of predators that normally mind their own business attacking the fences wholesale, slamming into it over and over as if they're trying to find a weakness.

The good news? The fences have been holding. So far.

The bad news? They won't be holding for much longer.

The Perimeter Guard is in a bad way, and it's all hands on deck. They've also sent out a few of the Perimeter Guard Cadets to post up flyers around the city asking for temporary help in fighting off the beasts. So pick up whatever weapon you're best with, hop onto a truck transport, and head on over to the fences to help drive off the monsters and keep the Quarantine safe.

prompt iii: hold your lover close

With a storm rolling in that's going to keep everyone indoors, that might cause power outages, and is just frankly pretty scary, a lot of the clubs, restaurants, and hotels are doing special events to keep everyone's brains occupied and flooded with endorphins.

There are flyers around the city advertising various couples activities: speed dating, dance classes, overnight pool parties, and all-expenses-paid lovers' nights in.

The catch? The great deals only count if you're a twosome. So if you don't have someone to love, hit up speed dating in the indoor courtyard of Riverview's largest mall, or grab the first person you see and take the opportunity.

prompt iv: solution

After a day or two of storm activity, things are definitely not getting better: the rain is torrential, the monsters are attacking with increased energy and decreased rest times, and the distractions are starting to wear thin. Power outages happen off and on, a very rare situation in Riverview Quarantine.

The government has put out an all-points-bulletin imploring anyone with an exploratory spirit to help.

From what government science techs can tell, the storm isn't natural - after all, even the meteorologists were saying that the pressure systems seemed extremely strange. They've managed to narrow the cause to an area in the delta where the storm seems to be originating from, and are broadcasting the general location so anyone with the guts can head out into the storm and try to find the source of it.

Any characters who decide to penetrate the jungle in search of the source will find a device in the shape of a pyramid, with glowing blue edges about a day's walk into the Abandoned City. The pyramid is a malfunctioning weather control device that is causing wild pressure fluctuations and causing the storm as well as making the animals in the jungle aggressive and erratic. Characters can destroy or deactivate the device to end the storm.

This mission can be threaded out however you would like, in groups however large you would like, and more than one team can accomplish the goal.

prompt v: wildcard/network

Whether you're looking for help with a mission or just want to get to know your fellow new arrivals, your character can make a post to the network.

Or you can choose your own adventure and do something else in the setting!

[ He smiles down at her. She'd be welcome at his house. His mother has a soft spot for strays. ]

I have a shelter just over there, and it has enough space for two. You can stay if you like.

[She shrugs.]

Sure. I'll shoot you if you pull any bullshit, though. Just fair warning.

[She's not one to hesitate. Not ever again.]
signifies: (clark ( 73 ))

[personal profile] signifies 2017-03-06 01:28 am (UTC)(link)
[ Clark smiles and nods.

The shelter itself can hold off wind and rain, has a narrow entrance. Inside it's wide enough for a fire. It's cosy inside, and Clark takes his spot closest to the forest, as their first line of defence. Ellie has clear shots from her end.

Clark's had time to scrounge up blankets to make it seem homelier. He busies himself with a stack of firewood. ]

So where are you from, Ellie? Do you know the year?
causational: (half-smile)

[personal profile] causational 2017-03-06 01:29 am (UTC)(link)
[It's almost enough to put Eddie off the whole thing, because the moment the tall bespectacled man he's bumped into asks if he's nervous, he realizes that he is. Eddie is very nervous, and under that is a pretty solid core of guilt, besides which, as a nice little spice to the recipe that is his bad feelings right now - he's embarrassed both about being nervous and guilty. So, of course, just to make matters worse, his cheeks start to flush immediately, which is probably one of the biggest down-sides to being as fair as he is.

Resisting the urge to put his hands up over his cheeks, he shrugs.]

A bit, yeah. I mean. I just got out of a relationship. Kind of. Sort of. So being nervous is kind of the last of my issues right now but...

[He shrugs and gives his head a little shake.]

It's not like my life is over, right?

[And hey, if he has to put in a little effort to ignore the twinge that still lingers in his chest from shooting himself, that's what he does.]
causational: (taken aback)

[personal profile] causational 2017-03-06 01:38 am (UTC)(link)
Right.

[It's abrasive, and curt, but Eddie can't really blame him. For a moment, he thinks of Singh, or Joe, when things are going south, how snappy they can get. Blunt and quick.

Shifting, he pulls the laser cannon out from its holster on his back, sucks in his breath, goes through all the steps they taught him in the training course, one by one.

It's so surreal he can hardly believe it's something that's actually happening to him, but the monster goes from still to moving in the moment it takes for a flash of lightning to light the sky. Rearing back, it slams two front legs against the laser wall, and screams in pain.

Eddie takes aim with the laser cannon and fires.

The blast does next to nothing. Instead, the monster rears again and whips its compact, heavy body to the side, another of its solid legs flying at the two of them at shocking speed.]

Oh my god! Watch out, the other leg...!
mrterrific: (it's a funny story)

[personal profile] mrterrific 2017-03-06 01:41 am (UTC)(link)
That makes sense. Before all that happened I figured if aliens did exist they were probably just off minding their own business.

It happened in 2014. I'm pretty sure if it happened, you would have heard about it. There was nothing else on the news for weeks, and I live on the other side of the country.

You might be from a different universe than me. When I got here they said people were from all different realities. I sort of assumed that was probably a lie like the rest of it, but maybe some parts were true.

[She tucks herself into a corner with her back to cold stone and watches as he starts a fire. It doesn't even occur to her that it might be strange that he knows how. Some life skills are just... necessary, to her. Knowing how to hunt, to trap, to kill. She can rationalize a time when they weren't integral to survivor but she can't really imagine it.

She sets her rifle beside her, careful not to point it an anything but the ground or the sky, and draws up her knees.]

I'm kinda from all over. [Boston doesn't own any piece of her heart, but that doesn't mean she wants to talk about it to a near stranger.] And it's June, 2034.

[ She's twenty years ahead, a world paralysed by this plague she's mentioned. This place must be like an alien planet, another feeling he's familiar with.

Once a fire's going, Clark takes out some homemade skewers, and a bowl they can use to heat the soup in his backpack. He spreads it out between them. ]

Here, help yourself. I have enough for a few days.

[ Curtis notices that the guy seems pretty uncomfortable, but since he's also feeling pretty uncomfortable himself, it's actually reassuring. Like he's not the odd one out. That feeling only increases when the guy explains just why he's nervous. Curtis smiles, briefly, but it's a close-lipped and not too happy smile. He exhales through his nose, gives a small shrug. ]

Me, too. Only... not really 'got out'. More like kicked out. My husband gave me divorce papers, so something tells me it's... really, definitely through.

[ It's harder than it should be, making himself say the words. Curtis still can't wrap his head around it. It doesn't seem real yet, and he doesn't want it to. Another tight-lipped smile, and he adds: ]

You're the first one I've told that, actually. It happened right before I came here and I don't really know anybody, so you get to be the first one I tell...?

[ He trails off, prompting the man for his name. ]

Well now you can put it in your calendar to stop by Central City on December 11th if you want superpowers.

Except I think a lot of people died there that night so actually don't.

I've never heard of Metropolis. I mean I've heard the word metropolis but it's not an actual place. New York definitely is though.

[She... has Issues taking food from other people, and she's not hungry enough that she really needs to eat. It's only been around ten hours since she had anything substantive but she's been snacking on and off throughout the day on some of the local edible flora.

She considers it. Then she tucks her hands into her hoodie pocket and comes out with a kerchief wrapped around some a decent amount of blueberries.]

James.

[ Michael extends his hand a second time. His fingers are long and slender, freshly callused, knuckles scarless.

Michael isn't a fighter. He's barely a survivor. The success of his plan, and of his own survival, had always relied on the muscle of his accomplices. It's something that's never sat right with him, even as he wrung the blood, sweat, and tears out of them. Right down to the very last drop.

Before he'd made a name for himself as one of America's Most Wanted, before Fox River, before anyone had died in his arms, or as a direct result of his actions, Michael's only real mark on the world had been through his architecture, from behind the safety of his desk. Living his life logistically. Schematically. Efficiently. Following the blueprint he had created for himself, according to the needs of society, and his place within it

And then he had lit those blueprints on fire, and thrown them out the window, into the water, where the FBI wouldn't find them, and life became something more than a concept.

It became something that could be taken from him.

He doesn't expect James to take his hand, but he wants him to. Life was in the little things, words, touches, scents. All the sensations, and moments, you didn't realize were privileges until they were gone. ]

[ He smiles. ]

I grew up on a farm. The most I saw of other people were at school or when we went to town for supplies. I've moved to a big city, but I'm not that used to it. Sometimes, it's just nice to be somewhere quiet, don't you think?

[ Where there's only her and not an overwhelming number of sounds to keep track of. Clark lives two lives now, and he's seeing the lengths people are willing to go to when they want to know about Superman. It's not going to stop. ]

And he's wearing plaid. Fuckin' Joel.]

monster madness (the easy part)

[ there were some thinks that Hotel Valhalla had prepared her for, and this was one of them. the monsters stew outside of the fence, and instead of running and finding something else to occupy herself with, she seeks them out. getting there isn't easy, she has to coax a few rides out of people with an easy smile and smooth words (something her mother would be proud of, and something she willfully ignores). she's left within walking distance of the fence, and the rest of the terrain she breeches alone. she's not unused to it, and she trails a few dozen feet from the fence to keep her distance, disguised partially in the brush.

she wants to know what would classify as monsters: jotunn, sons of Fenris, something far worse than that?

there's a hm of quiet laughter to herself as she tightens her fingers on her garrote, readying to see what horrors are beyond that fence.
]

This better be good. Godzilla, Mothra, or something worse? [ she says wistfully to herself. (dragons, perhaps.) ] Try me. I'll be disappointed, otherwise.

solution

[ while Alex decides that she doesn't want to help, she ends up helping anyway. there's no Sam nor Magnus, no one to steer her in any particular direction here or there. she's both frustrated and thankful, finding her own way from the Abandoned City and into the jungle.

she's used to doing things on her own, and when the announcement comes to anyone willing enough to head into the jungle, she readily takes it. there's a hunting knife tucked into her belt, and her garrote at her disposal. she stalks through the woods like a snake with its fangs out, ready to strike.

there are patches of sweat beneath her arms and on her brow, but she's damp enough with rain that it doesn't matter. her vest sticks to her, and she pulls open the collar in efforts to cool off. the pyramid is easy to spot in the distance, and she breathes a dramatic sigh of relief.
]

Finally.

[ it comes from her lips as she pushes on, readying her garrote. ]

wildcard

[ hit me with your best shot. ]

[The whole prospect of couple's activities is actually really daunting. Eddie's still waffling with indecision, and the moment the words are out of his mouth, he regrets them. Regrets saying them, regrets trying this, his heart pounding too fast, and his face suddenly going flushed because he is, by turns, embarrassed and guilty and nervous because it's been so long since he tried dating, and he shouldn't be trying it at all. It's too soon.

'Cool it, Thawne. It's just a pool party.'

The guy whose attention he caught sounds tired when he replies, his voice laden down with something heavy, even though he's trying to tease. Eddie smiles a little bit, because it's familiar and some of the anxiety bleeds away.]

[Is it? James doesn't ask it outloud, but there's something of the question in the cant to his head and the faint upward shift of his brow. He understands niceties that exist as social lubrication, the sirs and ma'ams of political convenience, yet there's something oddly genuine about it that hangs in the air.

He takes the man's hand regardless. It costs him nothing of any currency he concerns himself with. Nothing of the soul surrendered.

His own hands are hard, calloused and scarred, the backs of them peppered with freckles where he's taken the sun, and the strength behind the shake is something that speaks to leashed violence just behind the restraint. It says: this is not a man tamed.]
