prompt i: batten down the hatches

If the sky has seemed a little more yellow-green than usual for the past couple of days, there's a reason for that. Meteorologists have been warning of a particularly nasty storm blowing in from the direction of the Delta in the Southwestern part of the Abandoned City.

The Quarantine is about to be hit by a nasty typhoon, and there's a lot to be done. Whether you're helping sandbag the banks of the river, which is bound to be swollen by the storm and flooding, weatherproofing your building, or just huddling indoors for warmth and helping reassure your friends, family, or partner that everything will be okay, it's time to take action!

prompt ii: monster madness

There's been a lot of talk around the Quarantine about the various predators and monsters outside the fence, and how they've been getting steadily more active, crowding the fences, trying to leap over them, seemingly driven by some kind of mania. There have even been increasing instances of predators that normally mind their own business attacking the fences wholesale, slamming into it over and over as if they're trying to find a weakness.

The good news? The fences have been holding. So far.

The bad news? They won't be holding for much longer.

The Perimeter Guard is in a bad way, and it's all hands on deck. They've also sent out a few of the Perimeter Guard Cadets to post up flyers around the city asking for temporary help in fighting off the beasts. So pick up whatever weapon you're best with, hop onto a truck transport, and head on over to the fences to help drive off the monsters and keep the Quarantine safe.

prompt iii: hold your lover close

With a storm rolling in that's going to keep everyone indoors, that might cause power outages, and is just frankly pretty scary, a lot of the clubs, restaurants, and hotels are doing special events to keep everyone's brains occupied and flooded with endorphins.

There are flyers around the city advertising various couples activities: speed dating, dance classes, overnight pool parties, and all-expenses-paid lovers' nights in.

The catch? The great deals only count if you're a twosome. So if you don't have someone to love, hit up speed dating in the indoor courtyard of Riverview's largest mall, or grab the first person you see and take the opportunity.

prompt iv: solution

After a day or two of storm activity, things are definitely not getting better: the rain is torrential, the monsters are attacking with increased energy and decreased rest times, and the distractions are starting to wear thin. Power outages happen off and on, a very rare situation in Riverview Quarantine.

The government has put out an all-points-bulletin imploring anyone with an exploratory spirit to help.

From what government science techs can tell, the storm isn't natural - after all, even the meteorologists were saying that the pressure systems seemed extremely strange. They've managed to narrow the cause to an area in the delta where the storm seems to be originating from, and are broadcasting the general location so anyone with the guts can head out into the storm and try to find the source of it.

Any characters who decide to penetrate the jungle in search of the source will find a device in the shape of a pyramid, with glowing blue edges about a day's walk into the Abandoned City. The pyramid is a malfunctioning weather control device that is causing wild pressure fluctuations and causing the storm as well as making the animals in the jungle aggressive and erratic. Characters can destroy or deactivate the device to end the storm.

This mission can be threaded out however you would like, in groups however large you would like, and more than one team can accomplish the goal.

Right.

[It's abrasive, and curt, but Eddie can't really blame him. For a moment, he thinks of Singh, or Joe, when things are going south, how snappy they can get. Blunt and quick.

Shifting, he pulls the laser cannon out from its holster on his back, sucks in his breath, goes through all the steps they taught him in the training course, one by one.

It's so surreal he can hardly believe it's something that's actually happening to him, but the monster goes from still to moving in the moment it takes for a flash of lightning to light the sky. Rearing back, it slams two front legs against the laser wall, and screams in pain.

Eddie takes aim with the laser cannon and fires.

The blast does next to nothing. Instead, the monster rears again and whips its compact, heavy body to the side, another of its solid legs flying at the two of them at shocking speed.]

Oh my god! Watch out, the other leg...!

[Bucky doesn't have any of the weapons that they provided, he always carries a small arsenal with him wherever he goes and he's much better with the weapons that he's familiar with.

He lunges forward, left arm raised to block the strike of the leg. It glances off his sleeve, tearing deep rents in the fabric to reveal the glint of metal beneath. Not that he pauses, reaching to grab the deflected leg with his other hand immediately to pull himself up. Climbing hand over hand to reach the main body.]

Shoot it!

[He should be causing enough of a distraction to let Eddie get off a shot, but he has a gun in his waistband if not.]

[causational]

[Eddie is quick-minded, he keeps his head cool in dangerous situations, and he's dealt with a lot of situations where he was outgunned and overpowered in almost every way possible. So he registers the glint of metal under the cloth, but it gets filed away behind the far more important task at hand.

And instead of freezing up, eyes wide as saucers, mouth hanging open, when the other guy moves and starts climbing that leg toward the body, Eddie takes aim. Breathing even, hands steady, he waits until just the right moment, until the monster's balance is right, until the other man is close enough to the main body, and then he shoots off that leg. Shifting, he takes a deep breath, breathes it out slowly, and turns again, taking aim at another while the monster bellows in pain.]

[Good. At least it seems like the person he's wound up fighting with actually has some combat skills, that was a good shot and he didn't choke it. It's a lot harder to hold on now that the creature is writhing in a mixture of pain and anger, though, and Bucky ends up with a deep gash across his face where the thing nearly got him into its mouth to bite his head off.

It doesn't, however, because it ends up with a long knife stuck into the roof of its mouth. Not enough to kill it, but definitely enough to hurt a lot.]

Again!

[They've got this, they can take this down as a team.]

[causational]

[Eddie spares half a second to wince as he sees the creature swat his comrade across the face and leave a smear of blood. Thankfully, the more Eddie is inclined to feel like he needs to protect someone, the more control and calm and confidence he has.

So the next shot is a little easier, comes a little quicker, a little more instinctively - because protecting people, being a hero, is Eddie's instinct. Shifting his grip, he moves the gun a modicum to the right, and takes aim.]

Doing another on the same side! Hold on!

[And with that warning, he shoots out another of the creature's legs on the same side, leaving the creature reeling. And he holds the gun steady even as he feels a surge of worry for the guy - there's no way Eddie would be able to survive what he's doing out there.]

[He's good, very good. Bucky doesn't know a lot of random people who would be able to get those shots off so well, and he's pretty glad now that this is the man that he's fighting beside.

The next two legs come off, and Bucky is ready for it. He swings around and points his gun in the creature's mouth when it opens it to scream in pain, plugging four bullets up and into its brain in quick succession. It gurgles, twitches, and then starts to collapse backwards.]

Hand!

[Bucky shouts out the command even as he's jumping, his own hand outstretched in the hope that Eddie will think fast enough to reach out and grab him to pull him back onto the platform.]

[He might not be used to this kind of fighting or this kind of opponent, but Eddie's aim is pretty good and he's been well-trained to keep cool under pressure. When he sees the other guy point his gun into the creature's mouth and shoot four bullets straight into its brain, Eddie anticipates the request, holsters his own gun.

As soon as the guy shouts and jumps, Eddie's hand flashes out, he manages to catch hold of the guy's hand, and braces his feet, grunting with effort. This guy probably outweighs him by a good margin, but Eddie's strong and in good physical form, so...while he does drag right to the edge of the platform, has to grit his teeth and haul upward as the other guy climbs onto the platform, he doesn't drop him.]

You...are good. [It's panted out as he flops backward for a moment, catching his breath.] Seriously, that was amazing.

[Eddie is pretty strong to be able to both catch him and haul him up. The knock-off serum gave him pretty dense muscles, and then the arm adds a lot of weight on top of that, but at least it seems his partner in this fight was up to the task.

He opens up the cartridge of his gun to replace the bullets he fired, always make sure to keep all guns fully stocked, and nods.]

You hurt?

[He knows he's good, so he accepts that as a compliment, moving right along because it's also not an important compliment.]

[causational]

[It definitely wasn't easy. If it had been someone like Barry, he could've easily yanked him onto the platform, but this guy's way heavier than he looks. So it's a struggle, and it takes a few moments for Eddie to recover.]

No. Just a little worn out. You okay? I saw it cut your face. I can do first aid if you need it, before we carry on.

[There is a long cut on his face, it runs underneath his eye and across his right cheek fairly deeply. It probably needs a couple of stitches.]

It's nothing.

[He's not going to bleed out via his face, and it won't impede his movements, so it's irrelevant to him.]

There'll be others coming, if you're too tired to continue then you should leave now.
