prompt i: batten down the hatches

If the sky has seemed a little more yellow-green than usual for the past couple of days, there's a reason for that. Meteorologists have been warning of a particularly nasty storm blowing in from the direction of the Delta in the Southwestern part of the Abandoned City.

The Quarantine is about to be hit by a nasty typhoon, and there's a lot to be done. Whether you're helping sandbag the banks of the river, which is bound to be swollen by the storm and flooding, weatherproofing your building, or just huddling indoors for warmth and helping reassure your friends, family, or partner that everything will be okay, it's time to take action!

prompt ii: monster madness

There's been a lot of talk around the Quarantine about the various predators and monsters outside the fence, and how they've been getting steadily more active, crowding the fences, trying to leap over them, seemingly driven by some kind of mania. There have even been increasing instances of predators that normally mind their own business attacking the fences wholesale, slamming into it over and over as if they're trying to find a weakness.

The good news? The fences have been holding. So far.

The bad news? They won't be holding for much longer.

The Perimeter Guard is in a bad way, and it's all hands on deck. They've also sent out a few of the Perimeter Guard Cadets to post up flyers around the city asking for temporary help in fighting off the beasts. So pick up whatever weapon you're best with, hop onto a truck transport, and head on over to the fences to help drive off the monsters and keep the Quarantine safe.

prompt iii: hold your lover close

With a storm rolling in that's going to keep everyone indoors, that might cause power outages, and is just frankly pretty scary, a lot of the clubs, restaurants, and hotels are doing special events to keep everyone's brains occupied and flooded with endorphins.

There are flyers around the city advertising various couples activities: speed dating, dance classes, overnight pool parties, and all-expenses-paid lovers' nights in.

The catch? The great deals only count if you're a twosome. So if you don't have someone to love, hit up speed dating in the indoor courtyard of Riverview's largest mall, or grab the first person you see and take the opportunity.

prompt iv: solution

After a day or two of storm activity, things are definitely not getting better: the rain is torrential, the monsters are attacking with increased energy and decreased rest times, and the distractions are starting to wear thin. Power outages happen off and on, a very rare situation in Riverview Quarantine.

The government has put out an all-points-bulletin imploring anyone with an exploratory spirit to help.

From what government science techs can tell, the storm isn't natural - after all, even the meteorologists were saying that the pressure systems seemed extremely strange. They've managed to narrow the cause to an area in the delta where the storm seems to be originating from, and are broadcasting the general location so anyone with the guts can head out into the storm and try to find the source of it.

Any characters who decide to penetrate the jungle in search of the source will find a device in the shape of a pyramid, with glowing blue edges about a day's walk into the Abandoned City. The pyramid is a malfunctioning weather control device that is causing wild pressure fluctuations and causing the storm as well as making the animals in the jungle aggressive and erratic. Characters can destroy or deactivate the device to end the storm.

This mission can be threaded out however you would like, in groups however large you would like, and more than one team can accomplish the goal.

prompt v: wildcard/network

Whether you're looking for help with a mission or just want to get to know your fellow new arrivals, your character can make a post to the network.

Or you can choose your own adventure and do something else in the setting!

[With their differing eye colors and hair lengths (and the fact that James shaves), at least they aren't identical. There are subtle differences here and there, but the eye colors and hairstyles make them distinguishable immediately.

He quirks a brow at the other, pausing where he's tapping on the film over the glass to make sure it's adhered.]

There isn't? You look ready to bolt. [It won't work if they can't so much as share space during a flood.] You can say whatever you need to. We can clear some things up. I'm guessing this is your first experience with alternate universes?
advanced: (annoyed)

[personal profile] advanced 2017-03-02 11:43 am (UTC)(link)
[He nods, that much is pretty obvious. They have other worlds, the Chitauri and Asgardians pretty much smashed the concept that they were alone in the universe, but he's never even contemplated meeting another version of himself until he got here.

Being confronted so directly only makes him look even more on edge, if that's possible.]

There's nothing to clear up. I don't want to talk to you, and you shouldn't want to talk to me.
anotheroldsoldier: (skeptical)

[personal profile] anotheroldsoldier 2017-03-03 07:05 am (UTC)(link)
[James would much rather just get this over with than beat around the bush or keep trying to avoid each other. There are more important things to worry about than another version of himself, especially one who seems to want to keep to himself. But, that makes him an unknown, and he's not a trusting man. He especially doesn't trust himself.]

I don't. [He says it bluntly, tone dry.] But we need to. Clearly we can't avoid each other forever.
advanced: (determined)

[personal profile] advanced 2017-03-03 10:22 am (UTC)(link)
Fine.

[His eyes narrow, if the other Bucky wants to do it this way, then he'll do it this way.]

I don't trust you. I know what you are, because it's what I am too, and we shouldn't be around people. I'm watching you. When you lose control, I'll kill you.

[Honestly, he's expecting the same in return, and that would almost be a relief. He'd rather be taken out if he became the Soldier again.]

anotheroldsoldier: (serious concerns)

[personal profile] anotheroldsoldier 2017-03-03 10:54 am (UTC)(link)
[Despite the threat, James actually seems slightly more relaxed. If this Bucky is worrying about that, about losing control, that's good. That means he's past being someone's puppet, that he's aware of himself.]

I'm not asking you to trust me. [That would be way too much for either of them.] But you don't know what I am. Where I am. I've been back in the world for a while by now, they don't have a hold on me anymore. [Or, they only do in his nightmares.

He gives this other version a searching look and says evenly, without judgement,]
I won't be the one to lose control.
advanced: (confused)

[personal profile] advanced 2017-03-05 11:58 am (UTC)(link)
[He can't help a brief flare of mingled jealousy and hope, could he really get to a point where they don't have a hold on him any longer? Even without the trigger words, he knows that a large part of him is still the Soldier, even now.]

How sure are you?

[There's no judgement from him either, but his voice is hard when he asks the question. Bucky is putting people in danger if he's not 100% sure, and that's not okay.]
anotheroldsoldier: (matter-of-fact)

[personal profile] anotheroldsoldier 2017-03-05 02:34 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm sure. [Bucky can be confident of that, at least. Karpov is gone. The Skull is gone. Not that he knows it, but his programming was different anyway; they hadn't had to resort to such extreme means as electrocution because he has no knock-off serum, his brain couldn't fix itself after "dying". He'd been impressionable, his memories never would have come back without interference.]

SHIELD has been through my head with a fine-toothed comb and Tony Stark's finest tech. That was my condition for- [Maybe mentioning the Cap thing right now is bad.] -working with them.

You haven't been out for long, have you? [No judgement there either.]
advanced: (disguised)

[personal profile] advanced 2017-03-05 03:23 pm (UTC)(link)
[He doesn't know if he could let SHIELD mess around inside his head, not even for the sake of working with a team again, he didn't think he could let anyone inside his head again.

Wary, he shakes his head.]

Six months, give or take.

[Time sometimes slips past unnoticed these days, but he's pretty sure it's been about six months ghosting from place to place.]

How much longer for you?
anotheroldsoldier: (back of his head)

[personal profile] anotheroldsoldier 2017-03-05 03:29 pm (UTC)(link)
A few years. I was underground for a full year just getting myself together. [He actually sounds a little sympathetic there. He remembers that time; it was a bad year. He'd slowly started to ease himself toward interacting with the world again, and then he was thrust into it suddenly when Steve was shot on the courthouse steps.]
advanced: (conflicted)

[personal profile] advanced 2017-03-05 03:36 pm (UTC)(link)
[He nods, understanding in his expression. That's what he's trying to do, just find himself again and figure out who the hell he is.]

How long before you remembered?
anotheroldsoldier: (explain that again)

[personal profile] anotheroldsoldier 2017-03-05 04:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Remembering was the problem. [He says it slowly, his brain working through that comment. How long before...? How did this Bucky break free of his handlers?] The Cosmic Cube... I remembered everything in the span of a moment. It was too much at once.
advanced: (bewildered)

[personal profile] advanced 2017-03-05 04:03 pm (UTC)(link)
[The cosmic cube? He has to think for a moment or two, hesitant about his guess.]

You mean the Tesseract?

[That had been the name of the weird powerful cube that Loki had used, right? He had been frozen for that, but he'd read about it since.]
anotheroldsoldier: (side idk)

[personal profile] anotheroldsoldier 2017-03-05 04:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Little glowing box? Can rewrite reality to the holder's wishes? Yeah, that thing. [He speaks of it fairly distastefully. Magic. Bucky still has mixed feelings about the whole mess that ended up freeing him.]

Steve didn't, for you...?
advanced: (annoyed)

[personal profile] advanced 2017-03-05 04:39 pm (UTC)(link)
[He doesn't think that's quite what the tesseract can do, or else surely Loki would be ruler of Asgard right now and Midgard would be crushed under his heel.]

Didn't what?
anotheroldsoldier: (hmmm)

[personal profile] anotheroldsoldier 2017-03-05 04:42 pm (UTC)(link)
He held it, and told me to remember who I was. [That's the only reason he remembers at all, he knows that much.]

If it wasn't the Cube, then how did you get out?
advanced: (huh)

[personal profile] advanced 2017-03-05 04:45 pm (UTC)(link)
[It's the first inkling he has that they have very different experiences. If that's different, how much else is too?]

He is-- was my mission. To kill him. He wouldn't fight back, he just kept telling me all these things about my name and us. I shot him, the helicarrier fell, and we both went into the Potomac. He was dying, drowning. I pulled him out, still not sure why.
anotheroldsoldier: (talking again)

[personal profile] anotheroldsoldier 2017-03-05 05:05 pm (UTC)(link)
[Their experiences are definitely different, that much has become wildly clear. It's a relief, in a way. That they aren't just duplicates or clones.

He snorts once, quietly.]
Steve definitely fought me. He just wouldn't put me down. He wouldn't give up on me. At first, I wasn't sure if I was grateful or not.
advanced: (blend in)

[personal profile] advanced 2017-03-06 03:37 pm (UTC)(link)
I know he's looking for me.

[He doesn't bother to specify back home or here, because he's pretty sure that both are true.]

I'm not ready for him to find me, I'm not who he thinks I am.
