prompt i: batten down the hatches

If the sky has seemed a little more yellow-green than usual for the past couple of days, there's a reason for that. Meteorologists have been warning of a particularly nasty storm blowing in from the direction of the Delta in the Southwestern part of the Abandoned City.

The Quarantine is about to be hit by a nasty typhoon, and there's a lot to be done. Whether you're helping sandbag the banks of the river, which is bound to be swollen by the storm and flooding, weatherproofing your building, or just huddling indoors for warmth and helping reassure your friends, family, or partner that everything will be okay, it's time to take action!

prompt ii: monster madness

There's been a lot of talk around the Quarantine about the various predators and monsters outside the fence, and how they've been getting steadily more active, crowding the fences, trying to leap over them, seemingly driven by some kind of mania. There have even been increasing instances of predators that normally mind their own business attacking the fences wholesale, slamming into it over and over as if they're trying to find a weakness.

The good news? The fences have been holding. So far.

The bad news? They won't be holding for much longer.

The Perimeter Guard is in a bad way, and it's all hands on deck. They've also sent out a few of the Perimeter Guard Cadets to post up flyers around the city asking for temporary help in fighting off the beasts. So pick up whatever weapon you're best with, hop onto a truck transport, and head on over to the fences to help drive off the monsters and keep the Quarantine safe.

prompt iii: hold your lover close

With a storm rolling in that's going to keep everyone indoors, that might cause power outages, and is just frankly pretty scary, a lot of the clubs, restaurants, and hotels are doing special events to keep everyone's brains occupied and flooded with endorphins.

There are flyers around the city advertising various couples activities: speed dating, dance classes, overnight pool parties, and all-expenses-paid lovers' nights in.

The catch? The great deals only count if you're a twosome. So if you don't have someone to love, hit up speed dating in the indoor courtyard of Riverview's largest mall, or grab the first person you see and take the opportunity.

prompt iv: solution

After a day or two of storm activity, things are definitely not getting better: the rain is torrential, the monsters are attacking with increased energy and decreased rest times, and the distractions are starting to wear thin. Power outages happen off and on, a very rare situation in Riverview Quarantine.

The government has put out an all-points-bulletin imploring anyone with an exploratory spirit to help.

From what government science techs can tell, the storm isn't natural - after all, even the meteorologists were saying that the pressure systems seemed extremely strange. They've managed to narrow the cause to an area in the delta where the storm seems to be originating from, and are broadcasting the general location so anyone with the guts can head out into the storm and try to find the source of it.

Any characters who decide to penetrate the jungle in search of the source will find a device in the shape of a pyramid, with glowing blue edges about a day's walk into the Abandoned City. The pyramid is a malfunctioning weather control device that is causing wild pressure fluctuations and causing the storm as well as making the animals in the jungle aggressive and erratic. Characters can destroy or deactivate the device to end the storm.

This mission can be threaded out however you would like, in groups however large you would like, and more than one team can accomplish the goal.

[ this is hideous. terrible. and he's gone through some pretty crazy quests in his young life. still tempted to shadow away, he unintentionally lets the air around them drop a few degrees. a sure sign of his discomfort. there's a reason he's usually not the one to go on the quests that require a bit of acting... ]

Oh my gods... How ever will I be capable of that?

[ and then, in an undertone so only the stranger can hear. ]

What the Styx are you doing? Who even are you?

I'll have to keep you close, oh no! [ Pretending to nuzzle him affectionately, he mutters back, ] Loki, God of Mischief, Norse flavour. Hi. Get me into this pool party and we'll break even sometime.

[deathkid]

[ double takes, then reaches out with his senses because there is no way this is loki... right? except his senses are rarely if ever wrong and he can tell this guy his immortal. ]

Di immortales, you're serious. Okay, hold on. [ glancing around to make sure the bouncer is focused on another couple and that no one is looking at them, he discretely pulls the shadows around them and then takes them both into the party, just out of the shade of a tree overhanging the pool. ]

Now you can pay me back by explaining to me why in Tartarus are we even here.

[ ooooOOOOHH DANCE MAGIC DANCE!! Delighted by the weird shadow-travel, his glancing around finally lands on his kidnapped new pal. How did he do that? Is it an Italian accent cropping up that Loki can hear? Suddenly there are far more interesting things afoot than the party but, all the same now they're here, he spreads his arms and a shimmer of light rakes over his body to change his normal clothes into a pair of green board-shorts. Only board-shorts. ]

To get wrecked! What's your name?

[ meanwhile, this is nico di angelo, son of hades, covering his face with his hand as his ears turn red again. don'tlookdon'tlookdon'tlook. which is kind of hard considering loki is right there. but, okay, he can handle this. releasing a slow breath, he lowers his hand and looks up at loki again. ]

Nico di Angelo. So you just wanted to crash someone's pool party. Ugh, gods.

It's a couples-only thing at this spa, don't worry. Lots of other people are lying about being together too, I just happened to stroll by and decide to join on a whim. That's where you came in, Nico.

[ That sure is 6'1" of smoothly muscled godling for Nico's viewing pleasure, hands on hips as Loki peers out over the pretty little garden and pool. Beach-balls and dolphins seem to be very popular. ]

We could have some fun, now we're here ... What do you say?

[ Offering a hand and a smile. At the very least, he wants to speak with Nico more and find out what all that shadowy business was about. ]

[deathkid]

[ opens and closes his mouth a bit, trying not to let that lovely view distract him. he glances around and winces a little because this is so percy's kind of thing and definitely not his. he wants to find a graveyard to skulk in. but... he's in a bit of a bind here, so biting his lip, he looks down at the offered hand. they have a role to fill, apparently. better suck it up and get it over with. ]

This isn't exactly what I'd consider fun, Lord Loki... [ but he takes the offered hand anyway. ]

Just Loki, no lordling nonsense. What a mouthful, Mister Nico.

[ A smile brightens when his hand is taken and he gives Nico's a grateful squeeze. Nico doesn't seem the pool party type but he's trying, so Loki makes a similar effort. ]

You could sit on the edge and chat with me for a while, couldn't you? Unless your toes are allergic to water.

[deathkid]

I'm not allergic to water.

[ there's that slight scowl again as he toes off his converse and pulls off his socks before rolling up his tattered black jeans. so the god doesn't want to be addressed as a god. very well, nico can roll with that. ]

It's just not my element, that's all.

[ikols]

Spooky shadows is? That caught me off-guard, it was impressive.

[ Climbing into the water, he wades out to just around shoulder-height, mindful not to go too deep. Treading water won't happen without a lot of effort. ]

What sort of magic was that? And you lowered the temperature too.

[deathkid]

[ meanwhile, nico settles on the edge and dips his feet in, dark eyes ever on the godling. ]

That. As well as earth and death. I suppose I can tell you: I'm a demigod. Son of Hades.

[ikols]

[ Finding a Jormungand dragon blow-up ring, he pulls it over his head and leans over the side to start paddling. ]

Who exactly can't you tell?

[ Meeting weird folk isn't all that surprising, only what they have to reveal. ]

[ swinging his legs back and forth, watching the water swirl around his pale feet. ]

Mostly mortals. They either think us demigods are crazy or something. Generally, the Mist hides us, but sometimes... [ a shrug. ] Also, it's not always wise to advertise. Monsters tend to think we make good meals.

[ikols]

Mist? Mist, mist, mist ... You do look tasty, let's not lie.

[ With a wink as he twirls around in his floatie. ]

What's the Mist about?

[deathkid]

[ flushing now, because what the hell, he's being hit on??? he scoffs and looks away. ]

It's... this kind of barrier between what mortals experience and the supernatural. It tends to alter the perceptions of what mortals see and it can be manipulated by those with enough talent.

Demigods and nature spirits, as well as the occasional human, can see through it.

[ikols]

So your entire world is magic-centric, actively twisting mortal perception of the fantastical?

[ Splashing at Nico's ankles. ]

[deathkid]

[ frowns!!! and tentatively kicks some water at loki. ]

Essentially, yes. Gods are real, so are monsters most mortals assume were just myths. That kind of thing.

[ Dipping down to get a mouthful of water, he spits a stream of it at Nico's legs. ]

Wouldn't it be better to let everyone see the dangers for themselves?
