prompt i: batten down the hatches

If the sky has seemed a little more yellow-green than usual for the past couple of days, there's a reason for that. Meteorologists have been warning of a particularly nasty storm blowing in from the direction of the Delta in the Southwestern part of the Abandoned City.

The Quarantine is about to be hit by a nasty typhoon, and there's a lot to be done. Whether you're helping sandbag the banks of the river, which is bound to be swollen by the storm and flooding, weatherproofing your building, or just huddling indoors for warmth and helping reassure your friends, family, or partner that everything will be okay, it's time to take action!

prompt ii: monster madness

There's been a lot of talk around the Quarantine about the various predators and monsters outside the fence, and how they've been getting steadily more active, crowding the fences, trying to leap over them, seemingly driven by some kind of mania. There have even been increasing instances of predators that normally mind their own business attacking the fences wholesale, slamming into it over and over as if they're trying to find a weakness.

The good news? The fences have been holding. So far.

The bad news? They won't be holding for much longer.

The Perimeter Guard is in a bad way, and it's all hands on deck. They've also sent out a few of the Perimeter Guard Cadets to post up flyers around the city asking for temporary help in fighting off the beasts. So pick up whatever weapon you're best with, hop onto a truck transport, and head on over to the fences to help drive off the monsters and keep the Quarantine safe.

prompt iii: hold your lover close

With a storm rolling in that's going to keep everyone indoors, that might cause power outages, and is just frankly pretty scary, a lot of the clubs, restaurants, and hotels are doing special events to keep everyone's brains occupied and flooded with endorphins.

There are flyers around the city advertising various couples activities: speed dating, dance classes, overnight pool parties, and all-expenses-paid lovers' nights in.

The catch? The great deals only count if you're a twosome. So if you don't have someone to love, hit up speed dating in the indoor courtyard of Riverview's largest mall, or grab the first person you see and take the opportunity.

prompt iv: solution

After a day or two of storm activity, things are definitely not getting better: the rain is torrential, the monsters are attacking with increased energy and decreased rest times, and the distractions are starting to wear thin. Power outages happen off and on, a very rare situation in Riverview Quarantine.

The government has put out an all-points-bulletin imploring anyone with an exploratory spirit to help.

From what government science techs can tell, the storm isn't natural - after all, even the meteorologists were saying that the pressure systems seemed extremely strange. They've managed to narrow the cause to an area in the delta where the storm seems to be originating from, and are broadcasting the general location so anyone with the guts can head out into the storm and try to find the source of it.

Any characters who decide to penetrate the jungle in search of the source will find a device in the shape of a pyramid, with glowing blue edges about a day's walk into the Abandoned City. The pyramid is a malfunctioning weather control device that is causing wild pressure fluctuations and causing the storm as well as making the animals in the jungle aggressive and erratic. Characters can destroy or deactivate the device to end the storm.

This mission can be threaded out however you would like, in groups however large you would like, and more than one team can accomplish the goal.

prompt v: wildcard/network

Whether you're looking for help with a mission or just want to get to know your fellow new arrivals, your character can make a post to the network.

Or you can choose your own adventure and do something else in the setting!

[ Yuri almost doesn't want to let it go. It takes him a moment, to remind himself to breathe. That it's okay. Then, slowly, he allows himself to uncurl his fingers, to surrender the knife into Bucky's hand. He holds on to his arm, feeling blood bloom against the gauze, pain beginning to blossom there as he finally starts the slow comedown from his adrenaline high. All he can think to do, all he can find to do as Bucky talks to him is nod. It's all right that he doesn't have any antiseptic, any water. It's fine, he's not going to get gangrene in the time it takes to get over to someone who can wash it out properly, right? ]

It's fine. [ He finally manages, voice low. He takes a deep breath, suddenly wanting to get up, stand up. Maybe start running, do something, he doesn't know what. But he knows that it isn't the right decision, not right then. So he waits, and lets Bucky finish what he's doing first, knocking his head back and sucking in sharp, shuddering breaths. ]

[It won't get infected in the hour it'll probably take to get back to the city. They can put him on a brief round of antibiotics if needed, but for now, he just needs to worry about slowing the bleeding long enough to get him back there. Bucky works efficiently, pressing a clean pad against the wounds and wrapping it tightly, but not tightly enough to tourniquet the arm, with the gauze and tape. Then he pulls his slashed sleeve back down over it, another flimsy layer of protection against the drizzling rain and elements.]

The transport truck is about half a mile back. Do you think you can make it? [No shame in it if he can't. He's light enough that Bucky can carry him easily.]

[ He wouldn't have been so sure of that, in his right mind might have argued about not knowing anything about what the monster's claws might have been sporting. For all he knew he was poisoned, or something- he'd seen movies.

It was a good thing he was too numb to start overthinking it. Otherwise he might have been starting to spew things about werewolf bites, and working himself into some sort of panic. Instead, he pushed himself up onto his feet. Wobbling a little, but managing well enough.
]

I need to walk. [ And he did, he needed something to help him buzz out the last excess of energy, and calm down. ]
anotheroldsoldier: (talking again)

[personal profile] anotheroldsoldier 2017-03-08 11:20 am (UTC)(link)
[Bucky might be more worried about monster blood pathogens, but he's splattered in the stuff with no ill effects so far; while he doesn't have any large gashes at the moment, he does have scrapes and small cuts scattered across exposed skin. Anyway, it doesn't seem worth panicking about without a doctor's say-so.

He nods and lets him stand. Yuri wobbles, but Bucky doesn't move to catch him unless he desperately seems to need it, and so far, he seems okay. As okay as he can be. Bucky slings his shield over his back and loads another clip into his gun, and then he picks up the bowie knife, holding it out to Yuri handle first.]
Hang on to this for now. C'mon, let's move out before the bodies draw predators.

[ He laughed despite himself at the other's words, at the idea of something else coming along to eat these things. It's not funny, he shouldn't laugh, but he does. He tries to stop, dissolves into giggles, and would cover his mouth with his hand, if they weren't both otherwise occupied. He shakes his head a little, forcing himself to calm down, to take deep breaths and stop laughing. He manages to nod, before taking the knife. ]

Sorry- [ He manages out, gripping the knife as tightly as he can with his injured arm. Switching back to English, because maybe that will make everything feel a little less real. It doesn't, but it was a nice thought. ] Sorry, it's just... its been a very strange day.

[Post-battle fits of laughter, he's seen this a time or two himself. Sometimes if you don't laugh, you'll cry, and that's just the way it is. This kid obviously isn't used to monsters, or fighting them, or probably even killing anything.]

It's okay. Civilians usually aren't used to this kind of thing. [He says it a little wryly, his tone prodding at the fact that Yuri ended up out here at all when he doesn't have the training.] You move well, though. Some sort of athlete?

[ He glanced at the other again, heat colouring his features as he shrugged his shoulders, swallowing over a lump in his throat. ]

That obvious? [ He asked, voice small, expression pinched- but he managed a small quirk of his lips, too. Trying not to be to embarrassed by his performance on an actual battlefield. Already berating himself for stupid mistakes, as he started to go over his actions in his head. He let out a shuddering breath, glancing away once more and gazing back towards the city. ]

A figure skater. [ He admits. It's funny, he's never been ashamed of what he does before- and it isn't that he's ashamed now, not really- it's just... different. Different from how he want to come across, not wanting to be seen as dainty or delicate like his stature. He wants to be seen as strong. ] Gold medalist in my senior grand prix debut, likely in line to join the olympic team.
anotheroldsoldier: (sheepish)

[personal profile] anotheroldsoldier 2017-03-09 06:52 am (UTC)(link)
Not as obvious as you think. [Bucky is just perceptive, attuned. It's an ingrained habit to assess ally and foe alike, their strengths and weaknesses and reactions. He can't turn it off for the same reason he still checks every room he enters, subtly, for entrances and exits and blind spots. He's an old soldier and habits die hard.]

I never kept up with the sport. Has a lot in common with ballet, though, doesn't it? [Natasha had danced, he thinks. A cover story, no doubt, but one she sometimes still remembered as her own.] If you plan to make this a habit, come and see me. I can show you a few things. You have a decent foundation for combat.

[personal profile] bespredel 2017-03-13 07:31 am (UTC)(link)
Sort of. It has some of the same foundations. I've done a lot of ballet. [ He snorts softly. ] Trained underneath a prima ballerina of the Bolshoi Ballet. [ And that was no small feat. Lilia's the best of the very best, and though Yuri wouldn't admit it to her face, he was grateful for her training, and expertise. ]

I want to learn. [ He says it without doubt or hesitation, that hot spike of determination and drive rocking through him. That sense of want that came with skating; a desire to be better. To be the best that he could be. ] I'll find you. You'll teach me.

[ Bucky had offered, and now with Yuri's determined demand, there was no getting out of it, either. ]
anotheroldsoldier: (sure is a dead body)

[personal profile] anotheroldsoldier 2017-03-14 10:30 am (UTC)(link)
I thought so. The way you move. [Training under a prima is definitely an achievement, even Bucky knows that much. Still, it just makes him ache, a little, thinking of Natasha.] I've trained dancers before.

[Back in the Red Room, with harsher methods than he will ever use on Yuri Plisetsky. He doesn't train killers anymore. He only wants to teach self-defense.]

I will. [He agrees, and finally they come up within sight of the transport trucks. Bucky nods at Yuri once and then peels off to go talk to one of the drivers, motioning to Yuri's shoddily-bandaged arm.] He'll take you back to the hospital.

[personal profile] bespredel 2017-03-22 06:54 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, well, you've never trained anyone like me. [ He grumbled lowly, scowling and gripping the bandages covering his injured arm just a little tighter. He glanced at the other, lips thin, before he pulled up his good arm, giving the other a thumbs up. ]

See you later, James. [ It was as much of a goodbye as Bucky was going to get out of Yuri, and he made his way over to the truck. Climbing in the back where he was directed to head back into town, and get the stitches he needed. ]
