prompt i: batten down the hatches

If the sky has seemed a little more yellow-green than usual for the past couple of days, there's a reason for that. Meteorologists have been warning of a particularly nasty storm blowing in from the direction of the Delta in the Southwestern part of the Abandoned City.

The Quarantine is about to be hit by a nasty typhoon, and there's a lot to be done. Whether you're helping sandbag the banks of the river, which is bound to be swollen by the storm and flooding, weatherproofing your building, or just huddling indoors for warmth and helping reassure your friends, family, or partner that everything will be okay, it's time to take action!

prompt ii: monster madness

There's been a lot of talk around the Quarantine about the various predators and monsters outside the fence, and how they've been getting steadily more active, crowding the fences, trying to leap over them, seemingly driven by some kind of mania. There have even been increasing instances of predators that normally mind their own business attacking the fences wholesale, slamming into it over and over as if they're trying to find a weakness.

The good news? The fences have been holding. So far.

The bad news? They won't be holding for much longer.

The Perimeter Guard is in a bad way, and it's all hands on deck. They've also sent out a few of the Perimeter Guard Cadets to post up flyers around the city asking for temporary help in fighting off the beasts. So pick up whatever weapon you're best with, hop onto a truck transport, and head on over to the fences to help drive off the monsters and keep the Quarantine safe.

prompt iii: hold your lover close

With a storm rolling in that's going to keep everyone indoors, that might cause power outages, and is just frankly pretty scary, a lot of the clubs, restaurants, and hotels are doing special events to keep everyone's brains occupied and flooded with endorphins.

There are flyers around the city advertising various couples activities: speed dating, dance classes, overnight pool parties, and all-expenses-paid lovers' nights in.

The catch? The great deals only count if you're a twosome. So if you don't have someone to love, hit up speed dating in the indoor courtyard of Riverview's largest mall, or grab the first person you see and take the opportunity.

prompt iv: solution

After a day or two of storm activity, things are definitely not getting better: the rain is torrential, the monsters are attacking with increased energy and decreased rest times, and the distractions are starting to wear thin. Power outages happen off and on, a very rare situation in Riverview Quarantine.

The government has put out an all-points-bulletin imploring anyone with an exploratory spirit to help.

From what government science techs can tell, the storm isn't natural - after all, even the meteorologists were saying that the pressure systems seemed extremely strange. They've managed to narrow the cause to an area in the delta where the storm seems to be originating from, and are broadcasting the general location so anyone with the guts can head out into the storm and try to find the source of it.

Any characters who decide to penetrate the jungle in search of the source will find a device in the shape of a pyramid, with glowing blue edges about a day's walk into the Abandoned City. The pyramid is a malfunctioning weather control device that is causing wild pressure fluctuations and causing the storm as well as making the animals in the jungle aggressive and erratic. Characters can destroy or deactivate the device to end the storm.

This mission can be threaded out however you would like, in groups however large you would like, and more than one team can accomplish the goal.

prompt v: wildcard/network

Whether you're looking for help with a mission or just want to get to know your fellow new arrivals, your character can make a post to the network.

Or you can choose your own adventure and do something else in the setting!

[It's less pity than empathy - Eddie and Iris might not have been married, but they were getting there, and Eddie knows how much it sucks to deal with all this on the tail end of a serious relationship like that. The truth is, he really didn't want to go through the whole hassle of doing speed dating just for a few good deals either.

So when the other man digs in his pocket and shows him the flyer, Eddie leans in and reads it over quickly, one blond brow raising.]

Oh, wow, that is cool. I'm a detective, back home, so that kind of thing is right up my alley.

[A pause, though, as he parses everything that Curtis said, and his smile widens a little.]

I'd love to go with you. And... [Lifting his hand, he checks off his responses on his fingers.] ...that's fine, I'm not ready yet either, you're only half right, and no...they don't.

[A little grin.]

So let's do it.

[Turning, he starts off toward the door, gesturing that the other man should follow him.]

What's your name, by the way?
mrterrific: (it's a funny story)

[personal profile] mrterrific 2017-03-10 04:11 am (UTC)(link)
Really? A detective? Then I definitely want you on my team, let's do this.

[ Curtis has always had a little bit of a reckless streak in him. Back home that manifested as joining up with Oliver's team. Now, it takes the form of him clapping a hand against Eddie's shoulder and nodding in the direction of the restaurant hosting the mystery dinner. Once they've gotten dinner, there's a few hours before the actual event - maybe they will have time for that coffee.

(The fact is Curtis has been pretty starved for friendship since he showed up, and he's only now starting to realize that). Belatedly, it hits him, and he turns his head quickly to ask: ]

Wait what d'you mean, half right?

[ Eddie might have been answering the responses in sequence but what he's failed to take into account is that Curtis was nervously blathering at that point and not actually keeping track of everything he said. ]

Oh! [ He laughs a bit awkwardly, holds out a hand for Eddie to shake. Should've done that before, huh? ] Curtis Holt. Nice to meet you.
causational: (flirty tease)

[personal profile] causational 2017-03-11 07:57 am (UTC)(link)
I don't want to sound cocky, but you definitely made a good choice of dinner not-date there.

[Eddie can't help the bright, slightly mischievous little grin he shoots Curtis, especially when the other man's hand claps against his shoulder, and he starts off. There's no denying that, even if Eddie is not at all ready to date, not ready to even think about dating, Curtis is cute, in that lanky nerdy way that Eddie's definitely started to be able to pick out from his time helping out at S.T.A.R. Labs. And maybe appreciate a little more than he ever would've before.

When Curtis abruptly asks about half-right, Eddie laughs, bright and sudden.]

Oh, about not being gay. Half-right.

[Eddie shrugs. It's nothing he feels self-conscious about, nothing he ever has, really, not since somewhere around the end of high school. That self-consciousness was one that he shed with the pounds he lost while boxing. So he just grins and shakes Curtis' hand in return.]

Nice to meet you too. So. What kind of world did you come from? I hear there's a pretty crazy variety around here.
mrterrific: (smug)

[personal profile] mrterrific 2017-03-11 05:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Wh- OH! Ohhh. Right. Got it.

[ Curtis' laugh then is self-deprecating and a little nervous, and there's no hiding the tiny little double take that he did as the information actually registered. Even if he's not even in the neighborhood of thinking about moving on from Paul, it's still good to know he's not entirely surrounded by straight people. Not that he has anything against them, but it's nice to not be alone. ]

Uh, wow. [ He laughs again - exhaling a wordless pfft sound as he looks up and tries to think how to describe his world to someone who might be from somewhere entirely different. ] It's weird trying to think how to describe it, you know? Like to me it's just... the world. Let's see. I'm from Star City, in a country called the United States of America. It's the year 2017, and we haven't really got magic or interdimensional portals or space travel. Kind of. Except we kind of do have all those things, but they're not common, like at all.
causational: (looking up to)

[personal profile] causational 2017-03-13 04:57 am (UTC)(link)
[Eddie just smiles at Curtis while the other man processes that, then lets it go. It's not really important now, because they've both said they're not ready to think about dating, they're in a brand-new world and trying to figure out what's going on, and even if Curtis is cute, it's just not a good time for either of them.

So Eddie shrugs off the topic of his sexuality, paying attention while Curtis starts talking about his world. And as he goes, Eddie's eyes get wider and wider.]

Whoa, wait, Star City in 2017? And you have occasional but not common weird things that go on? Like. A vigilante that goes around shooting people with arrows or a guy who runs really, really, really fast?

[Eddie's brow raises, he can't help the little rush of excitement at the prospect of someone being from a place he knows, from somewhere close to a time he knows.]

I'm from Central City, 2015.
