mod post: monthly state of the game

monthly state of the game

Hi everyone! Welcome to August's State of the Game post! Contains information on the submission of ACTIVITY BONUS POINTS, and INFORMATION AND PLOTTING OPPORTUNITIES for this month's Exploration Mingle.

activity bonus points submissions

As mentioned in the most recent State of the Game, in June, I had been suffering from a bit of mod burnout due to my real life. Thankfully, real life has been slowing down, which has led to me clearing up some of the backlogged modwork, particularly Activity Bonus Points.

While going through them, I noticed that there was a lack of consistency in how players are submitting their points, so I just wanted to post a reminder: There is a code on the Activity Bonus Points page that is to be used for posting points. This code is not optional.

The code provided is there specifically because it is simple, easy for me to read, and provides all the information to ensure that threads are applicable for points. Processing ACP is already the most tedious job on my modwork plate, and players formatting points submissions in different ways can result in making them visually confusing and difficult to read, or leaving out information, which means I have to check each individual thread to ensure it is applicable.

Going forward, I will not be processing any submissions that do not use the code provided.

exploration mingle: ooc stuff

This month's exploration mingle will be going up on August 15th and will be open and available for threading for two months, until October 15th, when the next exploration mingle will go up. To avoid timeline confusion, I will be building the mingle so it can be done in groups over the course of the entire two months so players may plot out excursions that fit into their personal plot.

This month I will also be doing signups for random teams on an optional basis - there will be a thread in the comments where players who are interested can be randomly assigned one or more teammates to plot with for an excursion. I will be randomly pairing them up on August 12 to give randomly assigned teams time to connect and get prepared for plotting. Hopefully this will allow for newer characters or characters who don't have a solid base of CR that is open to exploring to participate more easily.

Much like the May exploration mingle, there will be personalized mod-created IC rewards (similarly created, but different items catered to this event) for characters in threads that are completed by October 15th, so it's definitely worth it to start planning early!

exploration mingle: overpopulation

Starting August 8th, residents of the Quarantine will see a larger than usual number of drop ships coming in from orbit. It's normal to see drop-ships, of course, as the Quarantine is not self-sufficient just yet, and receives regular shipments of supplies, technology, merchandise, food, books, movies, and all sorts of other things from the Capital World. However, the number of drop-ships coming down will start to increase enough that it's almost triple the usual for the next couple of weeks.

On August 10th, an announcement will start being run on the Quarantine's networks, television stations, and on digital display boards throughout the city explaining what all the fuss is about. Mayor Dichard will be explaining to citizens in an official mayoral address that the Quarantine is taking in refugees from a planet in this solar system which recently became uninhabitable due to a massive natural disaster. The drop-ships are bringing hundreds of people to the city who are wounded, sick, or otherwise in acute distress, and the Mayor will be asking citizens' help with tending to them.

Unfortunately, this influx of refugees is going to be causing a serious overpopulation problem - for now, since it is summer, the new arrivals will be housed in makeshift tent cities set up in Riverview Central Park as well as other smaller parks around the city, any spare empty lots, along the banks of the river, and in a few of the sports fields. The resources of the city are going to be taxed to their limit, and while the Capital World will be contributing funds and helping to get together building supplies, Riverview's intrepid citizens are going to have to find ways to supply more space to build shelters for the refugees, and more power to supply the electrical grid in the city.

The exploration log will consist of four prompts: one for people who are less action-inclined to help tend to the wounded and sick or secure and supply the tent cities, and three for different areas of exploration - the jungle, the forest, and the delta. In each of these areas, structures have been identified by fly-overs (either in the Aerial Unit of the Perimeter Guard, by individual citizens, or by Capital drop-ships) that might be useful for repurposing into shelters, dismantling for building supplies, or providing additional electrical power. A quick write-up for what characters can expect in each area will be provided on the mingle.

Feel free to post on this entry to talk about any ideas, ask questions, or find a team to join the mingle with. See you there in one week, guys!

I had a specific question related to the exploration mingle! In the forest of phase IV, is it possible to sense any sort of weakness in any sort of barrier between the physical and spiritual worlds that may be causing the influx of spirits, and would that be perceptible to someone who can sense those things?
