Hi everyone! Welcome to the State of the Game post! This one is very important, as I have decided it is time to move into endgame. Details under the cut.
Hi everyone! Welcome to October's State of the Game post! This one is pretty important, since it contains information on GAME FOCUS related to mod-posted mingles, UPDATED GAME CAP information, and adjustments to the normal game schedule with a HOLIDAY SEASON TIMELINE including a one-month delay on finalizing the Branching Out exploration mission.
Hi everyone! This is just a quick poll!
I just wanted to reach out to everyone and ask which aspects of the game players are most interested in. Considering Riverview's playerbase has gotten smaller over the past couple of months, I've been debating on lowering the gamewide cap and shifting the game focus going forward. This would mean more mod-directed plot related to the aspects of the game that players are actually interested in rather than low-maintenance broad sweeps that cover more bases. This would allow me to more directly focus my attention on the things that players would really like to dig into in the setting and allow me to cut down on detail for things that are enjoyable but not high-priority for players.
In the comments, there are a couple of comment threads with major "themes" of the game that I am interested in delving into with more depth. Please respond to the headers with your vote, or hit up the suggestions thread with other ideas or thoughts.
Thank you for any feedback, and I'm looking forward to hearing from you!
Hi everyone! Welcome to August's State of the Game post! Contains information on the submission of ACTIVITY BONUS POINTS, and INFORMATION AND PLOTTING OPPORTUNITIES for this month's Exploration Mingle.
Hi everyone! Welcome to June's State of the Game post! Contains information on the UPDATED ACTIVITY CHECK STANDARDS, the STATE OF THE MOD, and INFORMATION AND PLOTTING OPPORTUNITIES for this month's Exploration Mingle.
Hi everyone! Welcome to April's State of the Game post! This won't be a long one, but has some very important information regarding a transition in how I will be handling ACTION/EXPLORATION PLOT and ACTIVITY CHECK. I know it's a little early, but I was excited to post it!
Hi everyone! No real State of the Game post this month since there isn't much to update, but I have been noticing some confusion around a couple of topics, so I wanted to just do a quick post to clarify areas of confusion! I will be updating the Rules and Procedures page later on this evening after players have been given a chance to ask any additional questions.
Recently I've noticed a few people requesting strikes or struggling with Activity Check because they are backtagging on entries from previous months instead of posting on entries from the current month.
I just wanted to clarify - Riverview does not and has never required that AC be provided only from entries posted in the current month. As long as the comments themselves are from this month, the entry can be as old as two months.
Riverview was built to be choose-your-own-pace, and requiring that all activity be from brand new posts would not be in the spirit of that.
Additionally, AC can be provided in the following forms: 10 comments that are less than 150 words (the textspammy option), or; 5 comments that are more than 150 words (the tl;dr option). Comments provided for the tl;dr option do not have to be all in a row, they can be 5 comments from a thread of 8, for example.
I do, in cases of emergency, accept a combination of two threads maximum to pass AC, but that is only to avoid a strike. I do keep track of how often players do this, and if it's done too often (3+ times in the previous 5 months, for example) I may ask for stronger AC proofs from the players who've overused split AC, going forward.
I thought this would be worth addressing as I've seen confusion crop up in response to a recent network post. To clarify:
● The only (currently) disallowed content is non-consensual sex and sex with underage (under-18) characters threaded in game canon. This includes all game communities, as well as the linked inboxes and Friendrs on the taken list.
● Taboo and complicated adult themes, including ones that are covered under disallowed content, are welcome to be touched on, mentioned, discussed, or otherwise played with. However, any threads that mention these sorts of topics MUST HAVE A CONTENT WARNING in the subject line so players who wish to avoid those topics are fully informed and empowered to avoid them.
● Topics that should be warned for are topics that are commonly related to abuse or trauma and include, but are not limited to: underage sex, childhood abuse, incest, sexual assault, drug use or alcohol abuse, extreme violence, suicidal ideation, etc. Please use your common sense, and if you think that maybe it should have a warning, do it. More warnings are better than not enough.
Hi everyone! Welcome to January's State of the Game post! This won't be a long one, but has some updates on a minor mod team update, handling of the application queue now that we've exceeded the game cap, and application standard clarifications.
Hi everyone! Welcome to November's State of the Game post! Nothing really major this month, though there's a note regarding December's Activity Check!
Hi everyone! Welcome to October's State of the Game post! Sorry it's a couple weeks late. I'm doing some sorta big stuff this month, so please check out the rest of the post under the cut.
August's activity check is officially CLOSED. The following characters have not been checked in:
● Byakuran |
applauses | Jamie
● One |envisaged | Lili
●Dick Grayson |CLEARED!fingerstripes | Meg
●Ellie |CLEARED!pundemic | Roy
● Takashi Natsume |mingling | Rinna
If your character is on this list, please reply to the original AUGUST ACTIVITY CHECK POST by 10:00 PM EST on September 8th to pass Activity Check with a strike. If no response is received, these characters will be auto-dropped at that time.
● SPECIAL NOTE: A two-month "double AC" penalty is in place for any player who was swept with Activity Check, should they re-apply in future. This is to ensure that anyone who wants to leave the game uses the Drop post promptly rather than idling out, so a space is cleared for any queued apps. More information will be posted on the next State of the Game post.
● This month, Activity Check will be open from 10:00 AM EST on September 1st until 10:00 PM EST on September 7th. All comments used as activity proofs must be dated between August 1st and August 31st.
● All players will be required to submit 1 thread of 10 or more comments per character for Activity Check proof.
● However, if your comments are 150 words or more, only 5 comments will be required. In this case, the 5 comments do not need to be consecutive, but they must be part of the same thread.
● Borderline word count comments will generally be 'rounded up.' For examples of what 150 word comments look like, please click here.
● In all cases, threads may be from either the log or network communities.
● Newly accepted characters will not have to provide activity proofs for their first month. They will be required to provide a link to their response on the Taken Characters page, and, if applicable, the Occupations page.
● If a player fails to reply to Activity Check they will be swept, and it will be treated as a drop, including the one-week grace period to rejoin without an application. If a character is swept for non-response and wishes to rejoin during the grace period, they would need to provide activity proof at that time.
● If a player is swept and reapplies at a later time, they will be subject to double AC for their first two proof-required Activity Checks after rejoining.
● If a player doesn't have enough proof of activity, they may post to the Activity Check with a request for a strike. There is no option for two strikes in a row, so proof must be posted the next month or the character will be swept. If players are showing a pattern of taking a strike every second month, that will be dealt with privately on a case-by-case basis.
● While threads on the Test Drive Meme and individual character inboxes can be submitted for Activity Points, they cannot be used for regular Activity Check.
Fill in the information in the appropriate text box below and post in response to this entry. The mod will let you know when your AC has been cleared.

Hi everyone! I know this is early, but I wanted to get this up to give everyone some time to think and give feedback before the State of the Game post. This mod post is regarding structural changes to the Activity Points and Activity Bonus system. No cut text, because it's important and I want to make sure everyone sees it.
I have mentioned in a previous mod post that I am looking at a work-related change in my availability relatively soon, and so I have been taking a look at my various mod tasks to see where I can streamline to ensure I don't slow down with the really important stuff like answering questions, posting intro mingles and the TDM, and opening and closing reserves and apps on time. The one place I have noticed is sucking up most of my available modwork time is the Activity Points Submissions - each submission that I process takes 20-40 minutes, so it can get really time consuming!
I have a few ideas for how to streamline the process and make it a little easier on myself:
● 1. Tags that are 150+ words earn 2 points each, tags that are under 150 words earn 1 point each. No bonus rewards for special content, but a flat 50+ Point Bonus for any type of open entry (open log with open prompts or unlocked network entry), not including top-levels in mingles.
● 2. Tags that are 150+ words earn 3 points each, tags that are under 150 words earn 2 points each. No bonus rewards for special content.
● 3. The system as-is, but with any special content submissions done separately with more detail so they are easier to process, including a clearly delineated rubric posted on the Activity Points page to clarify what counts.
● 4. Player Suggestion: Flat rate "1 point per comment" points submission with bonus rewards for special content that is very clearly defined.
In any of these cases, I will be changing how submissions are done - the new submission system will require players to list how many comments have been posted by their character in the linked thread and how many of them are 150+ words.
I'll finalize the new system for the State of the Game post on June 8th. No changes will be made until after the next State of the Game post to give everyone a couple of weeks to give feedback, state preferences, or make suggestions - please discuss as much as you would like on this entry.
Welcome to Riverview's test drive meme! Feel free to dip your toes in on the test drive meme to try out your character in the setting, play out a mission, and get samples for your application at the same time!
● Reserves are currently OPEN.
● Applications open on June 1st.
● Providing all parties are amenable, threads on the test drive meme can count as game canon, as the plot in the prompts presented is game canon.
● TDM threads do not count for Activity Check, but they do count for Activity Bonus Points, so long as all characters involved are accepted into the game.
● Threading on the TDM is intended for prospective new characters, so top-levels should only be posted by players of these characters. Since the events in the TDM are considered game canon, characters currently in the game are free to use the TDM prompts for logs and posts on the regular communities.
Feel free to use the prompts below or create your own scenario. The setting is built to be flexible, so feel free to make things up as you go.
