mod announcement: timeline change; pre-game-opening details
Hi guys! Welcome to Riverview!
First off, I want to say thank you to everyone who has shown interest in the game, given me feedback, and asked insightful questions that helped me flesh things out while I was getting it up and running! On that note, I really was not expecting the amount of interest and the number of applications I've received when I set the opening dates for the game. So, that having been said...
game opening timeline change
Since the test drive had such a high number of comments and so many characters have been accepted, I've decided to bump things up a little bit, timeline wise. As of the posting of this mod announcement, the network community will be open for posting to all accepted characters. Feel free to have your character make a post to arrange for missions, follow up with CR from the test drive, or get to know new people.
The log community opening and therefore the full game opening, is going to be bumped up to March 8th, just after applications close. The apps process has gone a lot smoother than anticipated, so I feel pretty confident that all submitted apps will be processed by then. The intro log and game start will be posted around noon EST on March 8th.
game plot/events
Considering that CR and threads from the test drive are able to be kept as game canon, it holds that the events that unfolded in the test drive meme prompts - the storm and its cause, and any missions to solve the problem, are also all game canon. As the game starts, it will be with these events in the recent past, and the city will be picking itself up in the wake of it.
However, Riverview Quarantine has been through a lot of rough patches, and aren't going to let it stop them from celebrating the month's holiday: Sampremi. This is a holiday celebrated throughout mid-March each year, honoring the concepts of new beginnings and new love. This can take several forms, celebrating puppy love, new crushes, or any other kind of new relationship - but primarily it is a celebration of romance and physical love. The holiday features a small downtown street market that pops up at only this time of year with free street food (usually sold with the intention of being shared), special treats, fair games of many origins, as well as several "adult" areas for characters who are 18+. While the holiday has its origins with spring and fertility, though, many residents celebrate with friends or family, or use it as an opportunity to ask that special someone out on a date.
This month's introductory mingle log will be centered around the Sampremi celebrations, and is not mandatory. It is only being posted as a benchmark to signify game opening, so even though I will do my best to include gen options in the log, if the celebrations aren't your jam, feel free to skip it and head straight for other game aspects once the mingle is posted on the 8th.
tdm threads and ac points
Since the test drive is game canon, threads from the test drive (providing all thread participants are applied for and accepted into the game) can be submitted to the thread you were linked in your acceptance note on the Activity Bonus Rewards page.
Future test drive memes will function in a similar way to this one, with a monthly 'mission' for prospective players to participate in and Activity Bonuses for players who choose to submit them if all participating characters are in the game at the end of the app cycle for the month. These missions will always be worked into the fabric of the game so new applicants can have a chance to feel at home after their acceptances.
If you are in the game and have done a thread for "Prompt IV: Solution" on the Test Drive Meme and you want to keep the thread as game canon, please link it in the comments so I can get a feeling for how the plot went down, but you can feel free to continue playing or plotting out those threads!
housekeeping/feedback
I wanted to post a quick heads-up that I have removed the stipulation that characters must be in the game three months to have quarters on the private floors. Since those characters will still need to use shared kitchen and living area facilities, I decided it doesn't compromise the communal living style enough to merit the limit.
I have also added a clarification to the Rules/Procedures page regarding young and underage characters in a game that is sex-positive and may have violence. This was not prompted by any situation, just something I realized I hadn't clarified!
● Young or teen characters are allowed in Riverview, though younger characters may not be able to fully participate in dangerous missions, depending on suitability. Characters under 18 may not be involved in very sexual logs on the communities. Obviously making out and other romantic content is fine, as is fade to black for older teens, but please avoid smut with underage characters on the communities.
Additionally, I am more than open to feedback on anything in this mod post, anything about the game in general, or anything else! Feel free to drop a line here with any suggestions or things you'd like to see more of, or send a PM to the mod journal.
Also, if you use plurk, the mod plurk account riverview has announcements and some notifications of changes whenever they happen.
