mod post: first AC, player plot etiquette, friendr

mod post

Hi everyone! This is just a quick mod post to give you a heads up on what to expect with the first month's AC, some clarification on etiquette surrounding player plots, and to ask your opinion about Friendr!

riverview's first activity check!

Riverview's first activity check will be going live on April 1st. I know everyone has been tagging like crazy, but since it is going to be everyone's first AC, I've decided that it should be treated like a new character's first AC will going forward. That said, it is going to be check-in only, with a few required housekeeping links.

● I will be requesting that you post a link to your character's comments to the TAKEN LIST, and if your character has taken a job or joined the Perimeter Guard, your comment on the OCCUPATIONS PAGE or PERIMETER GUARD PAGE. This would include any jobs assigned when you received your acceptance note, just to confirm whether or not your character has accepted the offered position. If your character is not employed or has not accepted their job, a simple "N/A" in this section is fine.

Additionally, I've received a few questions and personally realized that a few things are a bit vague regarding Activity Check, so please see below for some clarifications. These will be added to the Rules/Procedures page following this mod post.

● Newly accepted characters will not have to provide activity proofs for their first month. They will be required to provide a link to their response on the Taken Characters page, and, if applicable, the Occupations page.
● If a player fails to reply to Activity Check they will be swept, and it will be treated as a drop, including the one-week grace period to rejoin without an application. If a character is swept for non-response and wishes to rejoin during the grace period, they would need to provide activity proof at that time.
● If a player doesn't have enough proof of activity, they may post to the Activity Check with a request for a strike. There is no option for two strikes in a row, so proof must be posted the next month or the character will be swept. If players are showing a pattern of taking a strike every second month, that will be dealt with privately on a case-by-case basis.
● While threads on the Test Drive Meme and individual character inboxes can be submitted for Activity Points, they cannot be used for regular Activity Check.

Any questions or concerns can be asked in the comments!

player plot etiquette

Because Riverview is not a plot-intensive game, and the majority of the plot in the game will generally either happen via non-time-sensitive exploration missions or player plots, I would like to clarify a few points of etiquette around player plots. In particular, I would like to address player plot hoarding and player plot takeovers.

Plot hoarding is not acceptable in the context of mod plots or other players' plots. This would be when Player A has come up with a plot and opened it up to fellow players, then those fellow players either bring the plot to their own CR group to be solved, or attempt to solve it with their own character, cutting out Player A. There are lot of powerful characters and powerful casts in the game, but it is everyone's responsibility to make sure that they are not hijacking another player's plots with their character, specific cast, or specific CR. It is perfectly acceptable to create a player plot that is especially suited to your own character or your character's CR, but to behave in this way with a mod plot intended for the game at large, or in a plot created by a fellow player, is not acceptable.

Plot takeover is very similar. This would be when Player A has discussed the details of a plot they are making up with Player B, and then Player B takes over and attempts to carry the plot out themselves alone. For the same reasons as above, this is not acceptable behavior. If someone has put in the effort of creating a plot and clearing it with the mod, they should be the one to spearhead it.

I want to clarify that there have been no complaints about any of these things happening, but I wanted to make sure to set the boundaries from the start, before any problems have a chance to arise.

friendr

I wanted to ask some feedback on the Friendr app code that was put up as part of the most recent test drive meme. I'd like to gauge the interest in bringing this into the game proper (on a completely voluntary basis) rather than keeping it on memes or test drives. There are a couple of options I was thinking of:

● Adding a "Friendr" link to the taken characters page as a secondary inbox.
● Making a separate Friendr-specific page with the code that would function somewhat like the occupations page, where the Friendrs of participating characters would be linked together.

I would definitely welcome feedback from the player base on whether this would be worth including, and how you guys would like to see it included, if you do!

feedback and questions

● Riverview is intended to be choose-your-own-pace, which means that I built the setting to allow for the flexibility to create and participate in plots on your own terms. Your mod loves player plots - answering all the questions needed, world-building on the fly to suit them, seeing what creative players are capable of adding to the game, allowing character actions to affect the world - all of it. Feel free to message me with a question or for help with a plot at any time - it's my favorite part of modding.

● Also, if you use plurk, the mod plurk account, [plurk.com profile] riverview, has announcements and some notifications of changes whenever they happen. Generally, anything that goes there ends up on the OOC comm, but it's a good preview!

is the applicable skills section of the perimeter guard page just asking for the same skills that i listed out in her app that resulted in her being placed there in the first place? Or is this something else that i missed the details of?

on friendr: lots of players put it in their journals for fun already! i think it'd be great to put those links on the taken page with everything else.
