Following rumors about a magical healing spring deep in the jungle, a group of intrepid explorers ventured out to verify whether it existed or not. After finding the spring inside an ancient temple overrun with tree roots and flora, they brought samples back and discovered that the spring did, in fact, have healing properties. Just like the rumors said.
Until the authorities decided what to do with this information, no actions were to be taken, nor information revealed to the public at large. Unfortunately, the news leaked and spread to the alternative science communities as well as the top minds at Gramarye Magic Research. With interest piqued, several more unauthorized expeditions set out beyond the fence in search of the spring. And once the information leaked beyond these scientists and scholars? Everyday citizens also launched their own excursions into the jungle, many bringing ailing family members or friends along for the ride.
This month the mission is to deploy teams of skilled citizens into the jungle to rescue some of the less fortunate, unsuccessful parties. Some of these people will be trapped or set upon by monsters, unable to move forward to the spring or back to the safety of the city. Others have simply run out of supplies and need the teams to restock them so they can continue their trek. And some groups have managed to reach the spring and collect their own samples of the spring water, only to find themselves struggling to return to the city before the samples lose efficacy. Feel free to create your own party to rescue, and get a team together to do so!
Normally, living inside the Inhabited City is a pretty safe bet. You can go day to day without running into a monster or risking any kind of danger requiring a fight. Generally, the tall, laser-fenced walls keep out anything particularly dangerous.
The problem with walls? They only go so high.
While usually assault from airborne monsters isn't a problem that's on the map, there's a few weeks during late spring where a swarm of flying monsters not unlike feathery pterodactyls are migrating back to another part of the moon. They're only in the area for a couple of weeks, but during that time, residents can expect occasional attacks by swooping monsters if they should see easy prey. Usually, a good sturdy dark-colored umbrella is enough to keep them from seeing a potential victim or meal, but sometimes the attacks still happen. So the Perimeter Guard sends extra details, calling in all the reserves, to patrol the city and keep an eye out for citizens in distress. There's also a general call for anyone who's experienced at fighting to help protect their fellow citizens. Whether your character is being attacked or protecting someone else, be prepared - these monsters are quick and have very sharp teeth.
Over the past couple of weeks, the portal has seemed really fixated on food. Almost every time the portal changes location, new bundles of food are near the entrance, ripe for the Perimeter Guard Orientation Team to pick up and drag through. As a result, the Orientation Team has set up a free bazaar outside City Hall. The Bazaar lasts from the 20th until the 31st of May, and is completely free, featuring tables and booths laden with food taken from the other side of the portal. Many of these foods will be familiar to characters in the City, whether it's that special brand they're totally addicted to or a plate of grandma's family recipe.
Everything at the Bazaar is totally free, and anyone joining in on the feast is encouraged to share (read: gently not allowed to leave until they do) and to tell stories about the origin of the foods from their own home. It's a multidimensional foodie's paradise!
Prijata is a holiday in Riverview celebrating platonic love - essentially, it's a celebration of friendship, geared at showing appreciation for existing friends and finding new ones. While I won't spoil the rest of the prompts for the introductory mingle, one of the main staples of Prijata is gift giving, and the Government of Riverview gets into the spirit of it by giving small gifts to everyone who's arrived since the last Prijata.
This prompt can be used to give a quick idea of what your character is into so other characters or players can suggest gifts to be given them (or to give them) if they are accepted! More information can be found in the Prijata Pregaming modpost.
Whether your character is posting up a silly word game to distract people from the dangerous mission going on, trying to get hold of a friend, or putting out feelers for people to go out into the fray with, the network is going strong.
Alternately, an offer for a free app is popping up on new arrivals' devices - Friendr is a friend-finder and/or dating app. If characters choose to install it, they will fill out a short bio and parameters for what they're looking for, upload a snap of themselves, and then proceed to browse for matches. This is a typical swipe-left-or-right type app.
Many thanks to

Eichi-kun... [ He's utterly speechless, staring at the tiny box containing the gift. He has so many things to say to Eichi, so many questions -- but he'll think more about them later as he finally opens the box and takes out the bracelet. ]
A good luck charm? This is perfect! [ He immediately puts it on too... He extends his arm, admiring the simple jewelry. ] I... Thank you, Eichi-kun. I never thought --
[ That they'd never see each other again, even after graduation? That Eichi would give him a gift? Words fail him as usual, so he turns to look at the bracelet once more. It's so cute...! ]
no subject
He's never been the type to initiate physical contact, even if he doesn't mind it, but he finds that as the moments pass without any, he craves it more. Maybe just to confirm that it's actually Tsumugi standing there in front of him and not some phantom in his image. His fingers twitch together in front of himself, and to avoid any fidgeting, he folds his hands together.
He can't fall apart now, after everything. That isn't the appearance he needs to have. Tsumugi is part of another unit now, so...]
I know you must have only just arrived, but you haven't seen anyone else from the academy, have you?
no subject
[ But he does feel very relieved to have found Eichi here. It really quite frightening, being on another world all by yourself... It's nothing like the books he's read about the subject. He's not some generic male protag who knows how to fit in -- he's just another idol.
So he lets out an exhale, and reaches out to grab both of Eichi's hands as a way to support himself. Huh, cold and clammy as always. ]
But what about you? Are you doing okay? How long have you been staying here?
no subject
Six months. [There's a pause, a blink into a calmer expression, and then he squeezes back at Tsumugi's hands briefly.] Ah, wait, it's only nearly my third month in this place, to be exact. I misspoke.
[Six months away from home, though. Uh, should he even explain any of that... He still doesn't know. He's going to try to push past this quickly and into something else.] If you've just arrived, Tsumugi, then I should show you around, shouldn't I?
no subject
[ He's been away for that long... how? As far as Tsumugi can remember, he doesn't remember Eichi taking an extensive leave from the school, aside from those hospital trips -- maybe that's it? ]
But of course. There's a lot I still don't understand, though... But I'll do my best. Let's go take a look around, then?
[ So they start walking! Hand in hand, because Eichi looks paler than usual and Tsumugi's gonna be here as his support just in case he faints or something. Please don't die along the way, Eichi-kun. ]
So how have you been doing? I can't imagine you being in this place all by yourself, actually...
no subject
[Except that's exactly how he feels like it's been, and he keeps looking forward as they walk. It feels a little embarrassing walking around holding hands when he knows he's just being worried about, but because of his strange desire for closeness right now, he lets it slide.
He's been keeping his hair at the perfect length, but there are other signs that he's been here for some time. A cut on his left hand that no longer needs to be bandaged but is still healing from how deep he'd gotten himself, his attire is a subtly different style than his usual thanks to the choices here, and, of course, his awkward behavior is probably a flag. He just... didn't expect this.]
That's not to say it hasn't been lonely, of course. I'm the only idol here, it seems.
no subject
But anyways. ]
I'm glad that you were having fun despite of it all. You're really brave, Eichi-kun.
[ A huge sunny smile as he tightens the grip on the other male's hand. ]
But you have no reason to be lonely anymore, because I'm here now! Smile, smile! ♪
no subject
[He can't help but echo it with a smile of his own that breaks through, his gentle laugh following after. The way his fingers curl around Tsumugi's hand in return is a more subtle, constant thing than the playful squeeze of before.]
I know that I've been gone for quite some time and no time at all for you, but have I missed something? It seems to me as though this is stepping back a little too far so quickly... [This is like when they were friends... Sure, they're in a strange situation together, but shouldn't there be tension? He imagined if it were Tsumugi who showed up here, since he wondered about each and every one of them, it would be tense, somehow.]
Saying that I won't be lonely now that you're here... But don't you owe that loyalty to someone else, now? [Don't leave him on this stage, too.]
no subject
[ what are enstars timelines anyways, what with the annual reset and all ]
Ah, but you do have a point... Natsume-kun won't be too happy if he finds out that I'm missing, but there's no real way of getting out of here, is there? Oh dear.
[ places a troubled hand on his cheek. natsume will definitely beat his ass if tsumugi does come back though... ]
But don't worry! We idols have to stick together in dire times like these! And... I'll always be loyal to you, Eichi-kun. [ No matter what happens. ]
no subject
[Loyal... Eichi grows quiet for a moment, his grip slackening in Tsumugi's hold as they walk. He's tired, and he feels a little sick out of nowhere. Maybe it's just thinking about all of this, thinking about how unprepared he was, and how relieved he thought he'd be and is, but how he hadn't even considered the extent of this worry.]
There's no reason to be loyal to me here, Tsumugi. [He settles on that, looking away from Tsumugi and across the street as they walk, eyeing shops.] Don't worry; you can probably return home. That portal should be able to return you to the place you were before here after enough "community service."
no subject
[ Ever the optimist... But when Tsumugi turns to look at paler-than-usual Eichi, his minds goes on mother-hen mode. ]
Eichi-kun, are you all right? It is a bit humid here... Hold on, I see a cafe over there. Let's stay in the shade until you feel much better.
[ And so he goes right on ahead, dragging poor Eichi with him. Once they reach the cafe, he'll pull up a chair for Eichi to sit on. What a gentleman. ]
no subject
[He says this, but he did wait until a chair was pulled up to say this. He sits slowly, hands folding in his lap now as he looks to the cafe, and then down to the table, lost in thought. Fun... Well, it can be a lot of fun. But it's fleeting, like everything else.]
You know, this cafe has nice pastries to go with their tea. Can you go inside and get us some? Hold out your smartphone and I'll pass you some money. ♪
[It's as simple as typing in a number on his phone and then tapping Tsumugi's with it, with this technology, apparently.]
no subject
Anyways, Tsumugi nods and gets in line. Those are some nice pastries, though! Hopefully these will make Eichi feel better. And so he comes back with some eclairs and two cups of black tea -- just how Eichi wants it. ]
Here you go. ♪ [ starts serving them around -- jeez, is he Eichi's butler now ] Just tell me when you're ready to set out. Though relaxing in a place like this isn't too bad.
no subject
[It goes about how he thought it would. Tsumugi listens without even a complaint, and Eichi is left pulling his tea a little closer and wrapping both hands around it. It would be way too easy to fall back to the way things used to be, using Tsumugi for his own sake and Tsumugi going along with all of it. He doesn't know how to put his foot down and tell him to stop, does he? That's so dangerous. It makes him hesitate on even saying when they should leave.
It's probably all of that that gets him to finally open up a little.]
This is actually the second place I've been thrown into after being yanked away from home. I was in space before, you know? It's a good thing you didn't end up there, Tsumugi. It was so stressful on my body that I'm surprised I survived. ♪
no subject
S-Space? Like outer space? The place where Leo-kun usually rambles on about?
[ It really is bizarre hearing Eichi having gone to space instead of. You know. Mr. Ucchu~! ]
Well, of course it's going to be stressful on your body! Astronauts require special training and body conditioning to get used to the harshness of outer space. For someone with your condition to even survive up there...
[ Ah, there he goes again, worrying his ass off. Okay, calm down. Sip your tea. There. ]
You really are unbelievable, Eichi-kun. ♪
no subject
[Crazy, right?? Space AND aliens. He won't talk about all of the murder that happened around that time, though, since he can tell Tsumugi is already worrying.] My discomfort there must have been what drew me here. There are a handful of people that came here from that place, so it's good to know that I'm not alone, but it's a little troubling to think that I might be sent back there rather than the "home" we both know and love.

If he continues on with this conversation so carefree, then won't Tsumugi just fall into place beside him instead of stepping out on his own?]
Let's worry about that when the time comes, then. For now, what are your plans here, Tsumugi?

[ Takes a bite of the eclair. To be brought here without warning... Of course Tsumugi will be at a loss at first. But he'll manage. Nothing like thinking positively to get through these dire times! ]
