Welcome to Riverview's test drive meme! Feel free to dip your toes in on the test drive meme to try out your character in the setting, play out a mission, and get samples for your application at the same time!

● Reserves are currently OPEN.
● Applications open on June 1st.
● Providing all parties are amenable, threads on the test drive meme can count as game canon, as the plot in the prompts presented is game canon.
● TDM threads do not count for Activity Check, but they do count for Activity Bonus Points, so long as all characters involved are accepted into the game.
● Threading on the TDM is intended for prospective new characters, so top-levels should only be posted by players of these characters. Since the events in the TDM are considered game canon, characters currently in the game are free to use the TDM prompts for logs and posts on the regular communities.

prompt i: search & rescue

Following rumors about a magical healing spring deep in the jungle, a group of intrepid explorers ventured out to verify whether it existed or not. After finding the spring inside an ancient temple overrun with tree roots and flora, they brought samples back and discovered that the spring did, in fact, have healing properties. Just like the rumors said.

Until the authorities decided what to do with this information, no actions were to be taken, nor information revealed to the public at large. Unfortunately, the news leaked and spread to the alternative science communities as well as the top minds at Gramarye Magic Research. With interest piqued, several more unauthorized expeditions set out beyond the fence in search of the spring. And once the information leaked beyond these scientists and scholars? Everyday citizens also launched their own excursions into the jungle, many bringing ailing family members or friends along for the ride.

This month the mission is to deploy teams of skilled citizens into the jungle to rescue some of the less fortunate, unsuccessful parties. Some of these people will be trapped or set upon by monsters, unable to move forward to the spring or back to the safety of the city. Others have simply run out of supplies and need the teams to restock them so they can continue their trek. And some groups have managed to reach the spring and collect their own samples of the spring water, only to find themselves struggling to return to the city before the samples lose efficacy. Feel free to create your own party to rescue, and get a team together to do so!

prompt ii: death from above

Normally, living inside the Inhabited City is a pretty safe bet. You can go day to day without running into a monster or risking any kind of danger requiring a fight. Generally, the tall, laser-fenced walls keep out anything particularly dangerous.

The problem with walls? They only go so high.

While usually assault from airborne monsters isn't a problem that's on the map, there's a few weeks during late spring where a swarm of flying monsters not unlike feathery pterodactyls are migrating back to another part of the moon. They're only in the area for a couple of weeks, but during that time, residents can expect occasional attacks by swooping monsters if they should see easy prey. Usually, a good sturdy dark-colored umbrella is enough to keep them from seeing a potential victim or meal, but sometimes the attacks still happen. So the Perimeter Guard sends extra details, calling in all the reserves, to patrol the city and keep an eye out for citizens in distress. There's also a general call for anyone who's experienced at fighting to help protect their fellow citizens. Whether your character is being attacked or protecting someone else, be prepared - these monsters are quick and have very sharp teeth.

prompt iii: homesick bazaar

Over the past couple of weeks, the portal has seemed really fixated on food. Almost every time the portal changes location, new bundles of food are near the entrance, ripe for the Perimeter Guard Orientation Team to pick up and drag through. As a result, the Orientation Team has set up a free bazaar outside City Hall. The Bazaar lasts from the 20th until the 31st of May, and is completely free, featuring tables and booths laden with food taken from the other side of the portal. Many of these foods will be familiar to characters in the City, whether it's that special brand they're totally addicted to or a plate of grandma's family recipe.

Everything at the Bazaar is totally free, and anyone joining in on the feast is encouraged to share (read: gently not allowed to leave until they do) and to tell stories about the origin of the foods from their own home. It's a multidimensional foodie's paradise!

prompt iv: prijata pregaming

Prijata is a holiday in Riverview celebrating platonic love - essentially, it's a celebration of friendship, geared at showing appreciation for existing friends and finding new ones. While I won't spoil the rest of the prompts for the introductory mingle, one of the main staples of Prijata is gift giving, and the Government of Riverview gets into the spirit of it by giving small gifts to everyone who's arrived since the last Prijata.

This prompt can be used to give a quick idea of what your character is into so other characters or players can suggest gifts to be given them (or to give them) if they are accepted! More information can be found in the Prijata Pregaming modpost.

prompt v: friendr/network

Whether your character is posting up a silly word game to distract people from the dangerous mission going on, trying to get hold of a friend, or putting out feelers for people to go out into the fray with, the network is going strong.

Alternately, an offer for a free app is popping up on new arrivals' devices - Friendr is a friend-finder and/or dating app. If characters choose to install it, they will fill out a short bio and parameters for what they're looking for, upload a snap of themselves, and then proceed to browse for matches. This is a typical swipe-left-or-right type app.

[ Odds are he won't, but he has a peach! A pretty peach. It gets toyed with lightly from hand to hand as he cocks his head at her. ]

I'm Loki. You are?

Maleficent. You are native to this land?

[Loki's name was almost familiar in that it wasn't something odd like 'Bob' or 'Frank'. Strange names, strange human customs.]

[ikols]

[ ... dem horns and dat name. ]

No, I'm from Asgard, the Golden Realm. You remind me of my [ um ] relative, Hela. She has the big up-do going on too, so to speak.

[curser]

I have heard of neither this Asgard, nor Hela, but to be fair, I have not seen too much of the world beyond my Moors.

[She had the best horns, Loki. And the wings to go with them.]

[ikols]

[ Can't relate to wings; the one thing he would love, and is denied. But she's handsome and tall and reminds him even further of home, so he tries to foster more conversation. ]

Where lie your moors, Mally?

[curser]

[A blink, because that was a strange thing to call her, but there were worst insults than a mangling of her name and if she'd suffered and survived those, she could handle something so banal.]

[ Now there is a story in a single sentence if ever he heard one. ]

He sounds like a fun sort of fella. Didn't last long, I suppose?

[curser]

[If he was paying attention, he'd notice both the way her feathers bunched up and rustled along with the silver sheen that flared in her eyes as her face held an icy look. He might even also notice the temperature around them dropping along with frost spidering out from her feet.]

Too long, for some. But he is no more and the kingdom has been lifted out of that mire.

[ikols]

By Aurora, yes. Got it.

[ As he murmurs, more fixated on the change in their surroundings, he exudes his own icy chill that whispers out fast and thick to freeze the floor. Loki, unlike Maleficent, doesn't appear perturbed at all as he plays with her sideline powers. ]

He's not here at any rate, so there's that. You ... favoured the girl?

[curser]

There is that.

[A quiet nod, then a small smile as she notices his own magic playing with hers. So she wasn't the only wielder of it here. That was interesting to note.]

I do. She is the daughter of my heart.

[Under control of herself again, she responds to the play of magic by sprouting ice-bells in a row around Loki's feet; little flowers that look like glass, but tinkle like ice chimes when moved.]

[ikols]

[ Distracted by the icy flowers, he pokes them with the toe of his boot so they tinkle prettily. Absently, he notes that Walt Disney is a dirty liar. ]

Ah, and do you miss her very much here?

[curser]

Yes. And I worry who will guard her now that I am here.

[Weren't all Men dirty liars?]

[ikols]

Perhaps she will come through the Portal too, you never know. Until then, give me all your peaches and flowers.

[ With a winning smile!! ]

[curser]

[That earned him a laugh, and in answer, Maleficent held up her hand with a peach pit in it. In a moment of gold sparkles and magic, the pit was a full, luscious peach, looking like it would burst its juices by just eyeballing it. She held it out to him, gold trailing out to wind around his arm and lace it with a winding vine that bound along his sleeve, blooming bright gold flowers that smelled of honey.]

Will that do, you greedy thing?

[ikols]

[ Delighted with the gift, Loki laughs and waves his arm around to see the shimmering gold magic sparkle back and forth. It's the sensation of it that he relishes, unique to Maleficent in a warm, inviting way.

The hairs on the back of his neck tingle. ]

For now. But I really ought to give you something too, although I'm not sure how to go about doing so.

[curser]

I need nothing at the moment. Perhaps you could give something to another less fortunate. I believe that holds true with the theme of the festival, yes?

[It pleased her that he enjoyed something so simple to her, reminding her a little of Aurora's wonder with magic.]

[ikols]

We agreed on that, yes, but still. It feels a poor substitute to sharing something with you from my side.

[ Holding up his vine-strewn arm, his own magic glimmers bright green and he adds some sparkly illusory butterflies to the golden mix. Noiselessly, they flutter around the petals. ]

[curser]

I would accept a gift of good-will. Something such as that could be more useful in here than baubles.

[She watches his own magic bloom, reaching out to gently try to coax one of the butterflies to her finger before she realizes they are image only.]

I have not seen that before. Truthfully, I have not met many who wield magic such as I.

[ikols]

Mere tricks.

[ He shrugs, encouraging his creations to fly around Maleficent despite them being his own constructs and nothing real. The gesture counts, he hopes. ]

I can owe you then, yes? I don't like doing that with people usually, you can be the beautiful exception.

[ Casually sliding that in there. ]

[curser]

[Real or not, they are still enchanting, and she finds herself amused despite herself. More so when she hears the pretty bits of flattery that she's come to learn to be wary of. Men and pretty words mean trouble, and she points a finger at him to let him know she's quite well aware of that.]

If you feel so inclined, but I hold no debt over you other than that which you choose to repay or not. Another user of magic is always a treat to find.

[ikols]

[ His nose wrinkles at the finger-pointing, teasing with barely suppressed foxy glee. ]

Do you work in the Quarantine, Mally?

[curser]

... I have taken it upon myself to act as a Guardian of the city.

[Oh, he was trouble. With a capital T.]

[ikols]

Me too! [ Spreading his arms wide, eyes sparkling. Loki is unemployed in the negative degree by now, entirely cheerful about it. ] We have so much in common! Noble intentions, magic, good looks, even better horns ...

We're practically twins.

[curser]

[Her smile is trying very hard to control itself, but she answers such an outrageous claim by quietly unfolding and refolding her wings.]

Mm, I think there are still a few differences that keep us from being womb-mates.

[She was completely unaware of the pun.]

[ikols]

Ahh ...

[ Totally not prompted by the ruffling of her feathers, Loki twirls in a circle on the spot and when the other side of his face comes into view ... it's much furrier. ]

I don't see any!
