riverview: may test drive meme
riverview test drive memeWelcome to Riverview's test drive meme! Feel free to dip your toes in on the test drive meme to try out your character in the setting, play out a mission, and get samples for your application at the same time!
● Reserves are currently OPEN.
● Applications open on June 1st.
● Providing all parties are amenable, threads on the test drive meme can count as game canon, as the plot in the prompts presented is game canon.
● TDM threads do not count for Activity Check, but they do count for Activity Bonus Points, so long as all characters involved are accepted into the game.
● Threading on the TDM is intended for prospective new characters, so top-levels should only be posted by players of these characters. Since the events in the TDM are considered game canon, characters currently in the game are free to use the TDM prompts for logs and posts on the regular communities.
Feel free to use the prompts below or create your own scenario. The setting is built to be flexible, so feel free to make things up as you go.

Following rumors about a magical healing spring deep in the jungle, a group of intrepid explorers ventured out to verify whether it existed or not. After finding the spring inside an ancient temple overrun with tree roots and flora, they brought samples back and discovered that the spring did, in fact, have healing properties. Just like the rumors said.
Until the authorities decided what to do with this information, no actions were to be taken, nor information revealed to the public at large. Unfortunately, the news leaked and spread to the alternative science communities as well as the top minds at Gramarye Magic Research. With interest piqued, several more unauthorized expeditions set out beyond the fence in search of the spring. And once the information leaked beyond these scientists and scholars? Everyday citizens also launched their own excursions into the jungle, many bringing ailing family members or friends along for the ride.
This month the mission is to deploy teams of skilled citizens into the jungle to rescue some of the less fortunate, unsuccessful parties. Some of these people will be trapped or set upon by monsters, unable to move forward to the spring or back to the safety of the city. Others have simply run out of supplies and need the teams to restock them so they can continue their trek. And some groups have managed to reach the spring and collect their own samples of the spring water, only to find themselves struggling to return to the city before the samples lose efficacy. Feel free to create your own party to rescue, and get a team together to do so!
Normally, living inside the Inhabited City is a pretty safe bet. You can go day to day without running into a monster or risking any kind of danger requiring a fight. Generally, the tall, laser-fenced walls keep out anything particularly dangerous.
The problem with walls? They only go so high.
While usually assault from airborne monsters isn't a problem that's on the map, there's a few weeks during late spring where a swarm of flying monsters not unlike feathery pterodactyls are migrating back to another part of the moon. They're only in the area for a couple of weeks, but during that time, residents can expect occasional attacks by swooping monsters if they should see easy prey. Usually, a good sturdy dark-colored umbrella is enough to keep them from seeing a potential victim or meal, but sometimes the attacks still happen. So the Perimeter Guard sends extra details, calling in all the reserves, to patrol the city and keep an eye out for citizens in distress. There's also a general call for anyone who's experienced at fighting to help protect their fellow citizens. Whether your character is being attacked or protecting someone else, be prepared - these monsters are quick and have very sharp teeth.
Over the past couple of weeks, the portal has seemed really fixated on food. Almost every time the portal changes location, new bundles of food are near the entrance, ripe for the Perimeter Guard Orientation Team to pick up and drag through. As a result, the Orientation Team has set up a free bazaar outside City Hall. The Bazaar lasts from the 20th until the 31st of May, and is completely free, featuring tables and booths laden with food taken from the other side of the portal. Many of these foods will be familiar to characters in the City, whether it's that special brand they're totally addicted to or a plate of grandma's family recipe.
Everything at the Bazaar is totally free, and anyone joining in on the feast is encouraged to share (read: gently not allowed to leave until they do) and to tell stories about the origin of the foods from their own home. It's a multidimensional foodie's paradise!
Prijata is a holiday in Riverview celebrating platonic love - essentially, it's a celebration of friendship, geared at showing appreciation for existing friends and finding new ones. While I won't spoil the rest of the prompts for the introductory mingle, one of the main staples of Prijata is gift giving, and the Government of Riverview gets into the spirit of it by giving small gifts to everyone who's arrived since the last Prijata.
This prompt can be used to give a quick idea of what your character is into so other characters or players can suggest gifts to be given them (or to give them) if they are accepted! More information can be found in the Prijata Pregaming modpost.
Whether your character is posting up a silly word game to distract people from the dangerous mission going on, trying to get hold of a friend, or putting out feelers for people to go out into the fray with, the network is going strong.
Alternately, an offer for a free app is popping up on new arrivals' devices - Friendr is a friend-finder and/or dating app. If characters choose to install it, they will fill out a short bio and parameters for what they're looking for, upload a snap of themselves, and then proceed to browse for matches. This is a typical swipe-left-or-right type app.

Finn | Star Wars TFA
[There's a whooping shout as the rock Finn throws hits one of the fying monsters, but the triumph on his face lasts only as long as the dazed swoop away. Then the thing screeches and dives back at him, and Finn yells loud and panicked, diving away from a sharp, tooth-filled beak as the thing dive bombs him, hitting the ground with his fingers over his head.
It misses, he's not sure if it's due to his dodge or interference, but either way from the ground a muttered voice groans out with a thread of frustration.]
You have got to be kidding me.
III. Bazaar of Food Mecca
[What's that Finn has in his hands? Is it from his galaxy? Not a karking chance. He's holding a moogle pie and happily ignoring small talk in favor of stuffing his face with food better than anything ever served on the regulation meal trays back at the base.
The pie if amazing, and in between bites, Finn can be overheard telling one of the nearby residents of the Quarantine that he's kind of a big deal back home. Don't believe him. It's a lie.]

[ She's shouting it over the sound of panic as pterodactyl satan and his buddies up there go all divebomb happy. Rey's fumbling with the stuPID SAFETY on her blaster and tbh wondering why she ever turned it on. ]
Pterodactyl satan omfg
He drops back down to look for his own blaster again, certain this time he'll be more successful in figuring out where it had skidded to in the chaos of the initial attack.]
Yeah, well, there's no roof on the wall, is there? I don't think these guys got the memo.

[ forget later. there might not be a later. he's getting an earful now. she snatches it back like, yeS THANK YOU i can blaster myself like a Strong Independent Woman.
she raises it and fires off a series of wide shots, only one of which clips a pterodactyl. luckily, it appears to have hit a wing. briefly she considers hey, maybe these pterodactyls are just trying to do their pterodactyl thing and life their pterodactyl lives and this city was in their way.
then another one comes in for a divebomb and she decides she doesn't care. she squeezes the trigger again and injures the divebomber, which then loses control and barrels into the civilian anyway.
this is just going really great. a+ all around. ]
This isn't working! We have to find a way to stop them from flying over!
It's perfect. Rey is perfect.
She's much more dangerous at close range and her anger and frustration more safely directed at something other than him.]
If only they had shield generators or something.
[He sees his blaster then, sticking out from under the body of one of the unlucky flying creatures to have been taken out by someone else. He grabs it, and the thing isn't quite as dead as he thought becuse it snaps at him and he yelps before shooting it dead. He was just startled. No one heard that.
He finishes off the divebomber with a well aimed shot, 'rescuing' the pinned civillian from an assualt of beak and teeth in addition to the full body tackle, and risks further injury by grabbing Rey's arm and tugging her out of line of another of the things as it swoops by, its wing clipping them both.]
Maybe we should just go back inside. You know. Let someone else deal with this?

There's a breath in the battle. A pause, as the immediate threat wanes and the second wave figure out that they're the second wave figures out that, hey, it's time for the second wave. She reaches out to touch Finn's arm. ]
Hey. We can do this.
[ No questions. Just pure, unadulterated faith. She's not actually sure they can do this, to be fair, but it's at least 3x less scary than fighting Kylo Ren, and maybe equivalent to the TIE fighters. Maybe. So history's on their side. ]
Maybe if we split them up, I can catch the ones that come down. [ She holsters the blaster and crouches to grab her staff, not thinking for a second of reigniting the lightsaber that's still
hanging out in her fanny pack
waiting for Luke Skywalker to, idk, say a line maybe. ]

He's just relieved she's giving up on the blaster, and he nods, repeating again.]

[His hands don't shake when he lifts his blaster again. He doesn't feel sorry for the creatures. He's not as empathetic as Rey and his sympathy is mostly reserved for sentient species that can speak and don't want to kill him.
That will change when/if someone introduces him to gentle creatures with too much trust, but that hasn't happened yet.]</small? Just watch your legs. They're still fast on the ground and those necks are longer than they look.

Hey! [ it's clear she has minimal experience with this whole goading thing, but she seems very determined to get them to dive towards her, and not unarmed people. ] Over here! That's right, come at me. [ her voice drops then, like she's second-guessing that it's what she really wants as she repeats; ] Come towards me.
[ and then, go figure, it works. except it's not just one of them. it's four. all barreling towards them at once. ]
Uh oh. [ she raises her staff even though a part of her feels like at a certain point it becomes futile. ] Bad idea. Really bad idea. Finn!
[ it's more to alert him to the problem than get him to act because she is, on second thought, turning around and ... starting off at a run now. ]

[Oh shit. Okay it really is though. Well. This was going about as well as he expected.
At least this time he doesn't grab her hand when he takes off after her, firing haphazard shots over his shoulder. He gives a triumphant shout when one of them hits its mark, only to slam right into another civilian and send them both bowling into the doorway of one of the nearby buildings.]

[ She whips her head to the side and skids to a stop just past the doorway as she notices he's no longer following. With one lightning fast glance behind her, she barrels in after him, deciding fast that being inside is definitely one of the better locations right now.
Snap snap snap a pterodactyl comes bombing down right as she slams the fuckin door in its face like nO THANK YOU we don't need any avon products please come back another time.
Breathing hard, she presses her body weight against the door like she's afraid it's going to idk invent siege weapons and smash its way in there. Birds are very intelligent creatures. ]

[he sounds relieved and almost happy regardless. Bird Satan lives to fight another day, but so do they, and they didn't even have to pay for face care products. Breathe. Exhale. ]

[No. So close. He almost escaped without saying something regrettable. It doesn't matter if it's true, Han would be shaking his head at him and giving him some kind of advice like 'never tell a woman what she needs, or insult her aim, or let her toy with your emotions by making out with her brother.

[Time the second he's running into this impossible pilot showing up when Finn didn't think he'd be seeing him again. Rudely he has completely forgotten his conversation partners but if anything they seem more than happy to slip away the moment his back is turned.
