riverview: may test drive meme

riverview test drive meme

Welcome to Riverview's test drive meme! Feel free to dip your toes in on the test drive meme to try out your character in the setting, play out a mission, and get samples for your application at the same time!

Reserves are currently OPEN.
Applications open on June 1st.
● Providing all parties are amenable, threads on the test drive meme can count as game canon, as the plot in the prompts presented is game canon.
● TDM threads do not count for Activity Check, but they do count for Activity Bonus Points, so long as all characters involved are accepted into the game.
● Threading on the TDM is intended for prospective new characters, so top-levels should only be posted by players of these characters. Since the events in the TDM are considered game canon, characters currently in the game are free to use the TDM prompts for logs and posts on the regular communities.

Feel free to use the prompts below or create your own scenario. The setting is built to be flexible, so feel free to make things up as you go.

prompt i: search & rescue

Following rumors about a magical healing spring deep in the jungle, a group of intrepid explorers ventured out to verify whether it existed or not. After finding the spring inside an ancient temple overrun with tree roots and flora, they brought samples back and discovered that the spring did, in fact, have healing properties. Just like the rumors said.

Until the authorities decided what to do with this information, no actions were to be taken, nor information revealed to the public at large. Unfortunately, the news leaked and spread to the alternative science communities as well as the top minds at Gramarye Magic Research. With interest piqued, several more unauthorized expeditions set out beyond the fence in search of the spring. And once the information leaked beyond these scientists and scholars? Everyday citizens also launched their own excursions into the jungle, many bringing ailing family members or friends along for the ride.

This month the mission is to deploy teams of skilled citizens into the jungle to rescue some of the less fortunate, unsuccessful parties. Some of these people will be trapped or set upon by monsters, unable to move forward to the spring or back to the safety of the city. Others have simply run out of supplies and need the teams to restock them so they can continue their trek. And some groups have managed to reach the spring and collect their own samples of the spring water, only to find themselves struggling to return to the city before the samples lose efficacy. Feel free to create your own party to rescue, and get a team together to do so!

prompt ii: death from above

Normally, living inside the Inhabited City is a pretty safe bet. You can go day to day without running into a monster or risking any kind of danger requiring a fight. Generally, the tall, laser-fenced walls keep out anything particularly dangerous.

The problem with walls? They only go so high.

While usually assault from airborne monsters isn't a problem that's on the map, there's a few weeks during late spring where a swarm of flying monsters not unlike feathery pterodactyls are migrating back to another part of the moon. They're only in the area for a couple of weeks, but during that time, residents can expect occasional attacks by swooping monsters if they should see easy prey. Usually, a good sturdy dark-colored umbrella is enough to keep them from seeing a potential victim or meal, but sometimes the attacks still happen. So the Perimeter Guard sends extra details, calling in all the reserves, to patrol the city and keep an eye out for citizens in distress. There's also a general call for anyone who's experienced at fighting to help protect their fellow citizens. Whether your character is being attacked or protecting someone else, be prepared - these monsters are quick and have very sharp teeth.

prompt iii: homesick bazaar

Over the past couple of weeks, the portal has seemed really fixated on food. Almost every time the portal changes location, new bundles of food are near the entrance, ripe for the Perimeter Guard Orientation Team to pick up and drag through. As a result, the Orientation Team has set up a free bazaar outside City Hall. The Bazaar lasts from the 20th until the 31st of May, and is completely free, featuring tables and booths laden with food taken from the other side of the portal. Many of these foods will be familiar to characters in the City, whether it's that special brand they're totally addicted to or a plate of grandma's family recipe.

Everything at the Bazaar is totally free, and anyone joining in on the feast is encouraged to share (read: gently not allowed to leave until they do) and to tell stories about the origin of the foods from their own home. It's a multidimensional foodie's paradise!

prompt iv: prijata pregaming

Prijata is a holiday in Riverview celebrating platonic love - essentially, it's a celebration of friendship, geared at showing appreciation for existing friends and finding new ones. While I won't spoil the rest of the prompts for the introductory mingle, one of the main staples of Prijata is gift giving, and the Government of Riverview gets into the spirit of it by giving small gifts to everyone who's arrived since the last Prijata.

This prompt can be used to give a quick idea of what your character is into so other characters or players can suggest gifts to be given them (or to give them) if they are accepted! More information can be found in the Prijata Pregaming modpost.

prompt v: friendr/network

Whether your character is posting up a silly word game to distract people from the dangerous mission going on, trying to get hold of a friend, or putting out feelers for people to go out into the fray with, the network is going strong.

Alternately, an offer for a free app is popping up on new arrivals' devices - Friendr is a friend-finder and/or dating app. If characters choose to install it, they will fill out a short bio and parameters for what they're looking for, upload a snap of themselves, and then proceed to browse for matches. This is a typical swipe-left-or-right type app.

Code to post your character's bio is in the textbox below, or you can just do a text version of the information in the app. An example of how it looks can be found here.

Many thanks to [personal profile] mistojen for coding this especially for Riverview!

Uh. Yeah... thanks.

[ This gifting might have been an accident, a brief moment where the press of the crowd brings this tall, criminal-looking guy before the faerie - the rough exterior smoothing with an expression of open surprise not just at the random act of generosity common with these festivals but her appearance.

She looks like something out of legend.

He blinks, realizing his error a few seconds too late for a smooth recovery, so he goes for one of humility: ]

Sorry, don't mean to stare. I -- [ He switches the piece of fruit into the other hand and puts out the other to shake. His hands are calloused, his skin scarred and stained with ink in the shape of a giant bird of prey. ] I'm Gladiolus Amicitia.

[She's quite used to being looked at strangely, both from humans of her land and those here. Seems no matter where she goes, she's an oddity, a lone version even among her own kind.

The hand comes out and she's familiar with the gesture itself if not used to it. Her own takes careful hold of his after she notes no ring or bit of iron that may sear her. She takes notice of the fact the man seems to be painted with the likeness of a bird over the parts of his arms she can see.]

I am Maleficent. I am also quite used to being looked at. Humans don't often see fae, even where I hail from. I take no insult. May I... ask about the markings you bear? Is there a purpose for it?

[personal profile] leatherdaddy 2017-05-21 10:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Maleficent? That's... quite the name.

[ Doesn't that mean 'harmful'? Those horns might, but she doesn't look anything like the sort. In fact, they give her this exotic charm. And Gladio can't help but take an opportunity when it presents itself, is a bit of a peacock although he keeps that on the down low for the most part. ]

Sure, I'll tell you anything you wanna know. [ Gladiolus lifts a finger between them. ] On one condition - let me buy you a drink.

[ Look, he can't not ask. Besides, she gave him a peach. ]
curser: (Smile - 3)

[personal profile] curser 2017-05-21 10:35 pm (UTC)(link)
[Gladiolus Amicitia was calling her name a mouthful? There was a lovely sort of irony here, but she was watching the way he was replying to her, noting the offer with a tone to it that almost felt familiar.]

I must pay a price of not paying to learn of something new? That's a strange custom.
leatherdaddy: (pic#11388248)

[personal profile] leatherdaddy 2017-05-21 10:45 pm (UTC)(link)
[ It's less of a mouthful and more of the meaning behind it, Gladio would be in no place to suggest someone's name was complicated. ]

Right, because you don't really encounter my kind a lot. [ Mental note to explain things a little more carefully to the fae. ] So, this custom gets even stranger - basically you'd like to get to know a little something about me and... the feeling is mutual. Buying you a drink is really me buying myself enough of your time to do that.

[ Clear as mud? It might be, so he sums up: ] Just think of it as my gift to you for the fruit.
curser: (Body shot - Profile 1)

[personal profile] curser 2017-05-21 11:58 pm (UTC)(link)
[She mulls that over. Surely such a custom must be normal around here -- and they can't all be treacherous like Stefan. There's a wary hesitation as she considers him.]

There will be nothing strange in this drink, will there?
leatherdaddy: (pic#11302804)

[personal profile] leatherdaddy 2017-05-22 12:29 am (UTC)(link)
You won't get anything you didn't ask for.

[ That's an odd question, although Gladio can't quite blame her - there's more than a few here who come from worlds and lives that require caution at all times. Gladio as well, but generally speaking he hasn't had to deal too much with tampered consumables. ]

...I haven't heard of anything like that happening here, for the record. They seem to be pretty invested in keeping Quarantine safe.
curser: (Default)

[personal profile] curser 2017-05-22 03:57 am (UTC)(link)
[Considering her last foray into accepting a drink from a man who tried to charm her... one could hardly blame her for being cautious. Still, Stefan hadn't said he was trying to drug her, but he hadn't made claims to the other side of that. A least this man seemed to be open to admitting whether or not there was anything amiss. And she was not as foolish as she once was.]

Then I accept your offer.
leatherdaddy: (pic#11388229)

[personal profile] leatherdaddy 2017-05-25 01:07 am (UTC)(link)
[ Gladio doesn't offer an arm, but swings his own as he walks, leading the way but only going so fast as to allow her to walk beside him. ]

You're a... fae? Is that why you, uh. [ Amber eyes lift to the horns, but drop back down again. He gives a friendly smile despite the way his brows shoot up quizzically. ] I mean I'm not one to talk about appearances but...

[ She looks like the sort of thing that should be brandishing weapons and attacking townsfolk. Except only she's handing out fruit. ]
curser: (Look - 2)

[personal profile] curser 2017-05-25 03:40 am (UTC)(link)
[Which is likely for the best, as she would not have taken it and he may well have been insulted.

She sees the glance up towards her horns and what seems like a smile, trying to imagine what it is he's implying.]

Why I look as though I'm not human? Yes, I suppose so. Though, to be quite fair, I likely look more human than most fae. Pixies can in passing, but only with magic.
leatherdaddy: (pic#11302805)

[personal profile] leatherdaddy 2017-05-27 01:25 am (UTC)(link)
Haven't seen one, wouldn't know.

[ Giving it some thought, Gladiolus watches his footsteps on the pavement and finds himself slowing a moment. Catching himself, he resumes his normal speed and looks at Maleficent, brows smoothing away from a frown to ask: ]

Uh, there a way to tell? I mean, in case maybe you're right and I've run into one without even knowing it.
curser: (Body shot - Profile 1)

[personal profile] curser 2017-05-27 06:10 am (UTC)(link)
[She couldn't really help herself.]

If you haven't run into three incompetent, daft ninnies, then it's likely you've not run into a pixie. They make terrible nursemaids and are too... pixie-ish to pass well for human. I suppose if one's never seen a human and were to come across them in play, they may think otherwise, but generally...

[Her hand waved dismissively.]

Aside from their natural size being far too small, I'd assume you'd find something 'off' about them.
