● Reserves are currently OPEN.
Applications open on March 1st.
● All threads on the test drive meme can count as game canon once the game is up and running.
● TDM threads do not count for Activity Check, but they do count for Activity Bonus Points.

Feel free to use the prompts below or create your own scenario. The setting is built to be flexible, so feel free to make things up as you go.

premisearrivalsettingask a questionnavigation

prompt i: batten down the hatches

If the sky has seemed a little more yellow-green than usual for the past couple of days, there's a reason for that. Meteorologists have been warning of a particularly nasty storm blowing in from the direction of the Delta in the Southwestern part of the Abandoned City.

The Quarantine is about to be hit by a nasty typhoon, and there's a lot to be done. Whether you're helping sandbag the banks of the river, which is bound to be swollen by the storm and flooding, weatherproofing your building, or just huddling indoors for warmth and helping reassure your friends, family, or partner that everything will be okay, it's time to take action!

prompt ii: monster madness

There's been a lot of talk around the Quarantine about the various predators and monsters outside the fence, and how they've been getting steadily more active, crowding the fences, trying to leap over them, seemingly driven by some kind of mania. There have even been increasing instances of predators that normally mind their own business attacking the fences wholesale, slamming into it over and over as if they're trying to find a weakness.

The good news? The fences have been holding. So far.

The bad news? They won't be holding for much longer.

The Perimeter Guard is in a bad way, and it's all hands on deck. They've also sent out a few of the Perimeter Guard Cadets to post up flyers around the city asking for temporary help in fighting off the beasts. So pick up whatever weapon you're best with, hop onto a truck transport, and head on over to the fences to help drive off the monsters and keep the Quarantine safe.

prompt iii: hold your lover close

With a storm rolling in that's going to keep everyone indoors, that might cause power outages, and is just frankly pretty scary, a lot of the clubs, restaurants, and hotels are doing special events to keep everyone's brains occupied and flooded with endorphins.

There are flyers around the city advertising various couples activities: speed dating, dance classes, overnight pool parties, and all-expenses-paid lovers' nights in.

The catch? The great deals only count if you're a twosome. So if you don't have someone to love, hit up speed dating in the indoor courtyard of Riverview's largest mall, or grab the first person you see and take the opportunity.

prompt iv: solution

After a day or two of storm activity, things are definitely not getting better: the rain is torrential, the monsters are attacking with increased energy and decreased rest times, and the distractions are starting to wear thin. Power outages happen off and on, a very rare situation in Riverview Quarantine.

The government has put out an all-points-bulletin imploring anyone with an exploratory spirit to help.

From what government science techs can tell, the storm isn't natural - after all, even the meteorologists were saying that the pressure systems seemed extremely strange. They've managed to narrow the cause to an area in the delta where the storm seems to be originating from, and are broadcasting the general location so anyone with the guts can head out into the storm and try to find the source of it.

Any characters who decide to penetrate the jungle in search of the source will find a device in the shape of a pyramid, with glowing blue edges about a day's walk into the Abandoned City. The pyramid is a malfunctioning weather control device that is causing wild pressure fluctuations and causing the storm as well as making the animals in the jungle aggressive and erratic. Characters can destroy or deactivate the device to end the storm.

This mission can be threaded out however you would like, in groups however large you would like, and more than one team can accomplish the goal.

prompt v: wildcard/network

Whether you're looking for help with a mission or just want to get to know your fellow new arrivals, your character can make a post to the network.

Or you can choose your own adventure and do something else in the setting!

"Monsters don't have molotov cocktails or some shit like that." Well, maybe a grenade. Ronan shouldn't judge before he even saw them. They had done a good job at tearing down the wall. He just figured he would have heard something about that sooner.

Ronan didn't know how else to respond to Jason. People didn't trust him, not the first time they met him, not even the hundredth time. But he didn't sound sarcastic.

"I got it," was what he settled on.

Ronan tapped his raven's leg. She stayed put.

"Chainsaw, shoo."

She cawed right in his ear.

That bird, his friends would say, was so out of his head. He rolled his eyes and went to get this over with.

At her question, Derek looks a little thrown off. He's new to all of this. He might be Perimeter Guard but that doesn't mean he knows the ins and outs of everything. He neither knows whether it's all right for her to suggest a split to the others nor whether it's all right for him to split away from the group to go with her. One of them has to give. It's easier to feign ignorance if he's going his own way, because he can just say he thought she was Perimeter Guard and didn't bother asking to confirm.

Derek's that kind of guy: it's a lot easier for him to throw himself under the bus than someone else, even if he really ought to do it the other way around sometimes.

"No idea. All right, let's just...we'll go check it out and take it from there, how's that?" he asks, figured maybe that strikes a compromise they can both live with.

Well, it's better than Ant Man.

[After taking another sweep of the vicinity to ensure they weren't about to be interrupted, Knock Out actually accords the other person a flourishing little bow.] I'm Knock Out-- that's my name, and what they call me.

--And I have no idea who Tony Stark is, I'm afraid.

[Of course he had been press-ganged into helping them find the mysterious source of the storms. Even in another...whatever this was, dimension?... he just couldn't shake the whole 'boy adventurer' curse. Admitting he was a super scientist probably hadn't help the situation.

So now he was here. In a disgusting, fetid jungle, pathetically clinging to a tree branch while the gash in his side leaked away all his precious blood. Par for the course really, but Brock wasn't here to take care of everything this time. The rest of the search party was dead- eaten or torn apart by whatever those creatures were... Also par for the course- the universe apparently got a hard on by repeatedly letting him witness gruesome death and live to remember it.

A crashing noise in the vicinity made him cling to the branch tighter, followed by the sound of....chainsaws? Seriously? Did one of these things just go and find a chainsaw to cut down the tree he was in? That seemed ridiculously unfair.

Two of them came stomping into the area just then and apparently the truth was even more ridiculous as one of them had spontaneously generated buzz-saws where his hands should be. At least that's what it looked like without his glasses, which were somewhere below and probably crushed. They also appeared to be wrestling...

Before he could really think about that, his foot abruptly started to slip from the slickness of the never-ending rain and possibly his own blood, leaving him desperately trying not to-

Nope. He was falling now.]

If I die here, I'm going to find Brock and haunt him.

[She figures giant robots would be a novelty anywhere outside of TV, but then she doesn't know anything about the place he comes from. Maybe it's nothing but giant robots. The idea sounds crazy even in her head, but here he is.]

...No, can't say that I have.

[Nor does she want to. It doesn't even sound pleasant.

She grabs the handle at the bottom of her garage door and hefts it upward. It doesn't function automatically. She might be able to get someone to help her rig that up, but for now she's fine with a simple lock and key. Not that she has said lock and key for it yet either.]

[One monster was more manageable for Knock Out than innumerable monsters, but this one was proving as canny a fighter as one of the Autobot rebels-- er, one of his Autobot companions, that was. Unlike the other ravening beasts that he'd been assiduously dismembering, this one seemed to be thinking about its attacks, and how best to thwart his. He wasn't going to be able to keep this up forever, and had a sinking suspicious that he was going to wear about before the creature did.

He pressed his current assault regardless, slashing with one saw and thrusting up and towards the monster's chest with the other. The beast bent itself in an unbelievable curve, snapping at his wrist while dodging away from both attacks. He swore in his native Cybertronian, an electronic burst of sound, and danced back and away himself as his assailant flailed out with clawed paws. His battle subcomputer analyzed the movement, looking for another opening--

And then something of significant size plummeted from above and landed on the monster.

Oh, the monster was bigger, but the impact still distracted it, and Knock Out seized on the opportunity presented. Lunging forward, he transformed one saw back into a hand and grabbed the creature, bearing it down to the ground and following it there, pinning it heavily. He drove his remaining buzzsaw into the monster, snarling somewhat monstrously himself as he messily separated the head from the body. Even after the creature was dead he remained crouched over it, his vents panting in the rain.

Finally, finally he moved to stand, transforming the other saw away and passing one hand over his face. Only then did he look around, checking both for other monsters incoming and for whatever it was that had, essentially, saved him--

Oh. A human.

He knelt and leaned over the sprawled figure, optics narrowed.] Hello? Still alive, skinjob?
automobile_enthusiast: (Insignificant like a bug. That's you.)

[personal profile] automobile_enthusiast 2017-02-26 06:36 pm (UTC)(link)
The closest thing they have on organic planets are sandstorms, except you can't get an infection from the sand itself if you're caught out in one. [His whole chassis shakes on his suspension, not unlike a dog shaking its coat out.

While she's lifting up the door, he executes a neat 3-point turn and backs deftly into the garage as soon as it's open enough to admit him. He comes to a stop once inside and seems to settle a little on his tires. Relieved to be out of the rain? Well, who wouldn't be?]

My name's Knock Out, by the by.

"All right!" A solid relief, putting that question behind her. Amir turned her attention back to the matter at hand, which was proceeding lightfooted along the perimeter of the fence, looking for disturbances in the area that might betray some recent incursion. There were sections of the fence that were dented and damaged, as if something of great weight had struck it. There were marks from laserblasts, too, most likely from the guards.

"You were smelling the air... were you tracking for them?" This possibility did not seem too unusual to Amir. Tracking and hunting were important skills, and in any case animals usually radiated a rather overpowering scent. Maybe Derek was a hunter.

A cry floated out over the distance, hooting and eerie. Though Amir could not see its source, it sounded unnervingly close, falling and then rising in a single liquid arc. Instinctively, she took an arrow from her quiver.

Did anyone else realize they have a racetrack here? With actual horses even, no mechs! Anyone feel like joining me to check it out today?

Wouldn't say no to a gym, sparring ring, or shooting range also if anyone's happened upon one...

[Between the storm preparations, the monsters at the borders, and exploratory teams trying to get to the bottom of everything, all on top of the strangeness of being pulled into an entirely new reality, Wanda is more than ready for something lighter to focus on. She's been through so much recently both back home and here in Riverview Quarantine that it feels good and fulfilling to come up for air again.

While video posts are not typically her style, it seems the best course for what she has to talk about now. The video opens to show Wanda holding her phone out in front of her. What can be seen of her dress is a dark but colorful floral pattern that contrasts well with her paler skin tone. Her hair is pulled up and away from her face, though a few tendrils escape and dangle down from beneath a thick crown of flowers resting atop her head. With a smudge of flour on her cheek, she offers the camera a smile.]

Hello, everyone. For those of you who haven't met me yet, my name is Wanda. I'm from Earth, originally from a country called Sokovia. Back home, today, they celebrate the Feast of Saint Nikolina, which is essentially a holiday to celebrate those who we share a community with. People will join their family, friends, and neighbors all throughout the city, bringing homemade dishes, drinks, and flowers to share as they spend the day together. [With everyone so far from their homes, she thought it could be good for everyone to get to know each other in a setting or event that isn't organized by the people who brought them here. A celebration for the displaced, by the displaced.] I've been cooking and baking since last night, if anyone would like to join me today. You're all welcome to bring more food and drinks, and no one will be turned away if they simply bring themselves and their appetite.

Of course, if anyone's willing to help me set up I'd be appreciative. There's quite a few dishes and tables I'll need to bring downstairs.

Otherwise, I'll be down in the park just next to the community housing in an hour or so, and will likely be there until dusk.

[With nothing else to say, the camera jostles just a little as Wanda frees one hand to give a small wave and cut the feed.]

[ being married sort of

maybe

puts a little bit of a damper on the entire idea of "couples activities" being offered. initially.

hands in the pockets of his jacket and rocking a little bit back and forth on the heels of his boots makes him wonder if it's even worth the try. he's attempted to feel marco out more than once, wandering the complex, peering around corners, in various restaurants, throughout shops, but there's absolutely nothing. not even earlier, when he'd thrown himself more into the action thinking maybe, maybe he'd be out there (that'd be his luck, wouldn't it?)

god, what he wouldn't give to just. go out for a walk. get some more fresh air, clear his head. instead, he's stuck feeling a little cagey inside from the storm, pacing along the atrium in hopes that if he does so long enough, someone he'll know might suddenly appear? that's how it works right?

he's moving by when someone addresses him (he thinks) bringing him to look up with a pretty confused, but intrigued expression. ]

He takes no issue with being out in a storm. Would that there were enemies amongst them amassing in it, he'd be out in the elements with a sword in hand. But there is no such dire threat (less dire ones, to be certain, but none he considers so urgent as to face them imminently) and so he has spent his days working on a map of the region instead. No grand cartographer, he, but it was a requisite of his naval education and he's a fair hand at it.

But he does look up from his (paper, God help the man that introduces James Flint to a tablet) work when the woman speaks.

Dryly, "Depends on your idea of adventure."

I'll be there.

[It's a couple minutes past when he said he'd be there that Wanda enters the lobby. Her hair is still pinned up, flower wreath only slightly askew on her head, and that smudge of flour only mostly wiped away from her cheeks. Her dress, still covered by an apron, hits a little lower than mid thigh, and her boots rise up to just below her knees. Still, there's a decent amount of bare leg showing, and as she enters the lobby she wonders just how scandalous that will seem to the pirate.

At least, she's assuming he's a pirate. There's still been no confirmation one way or the other.]

You hadn't heard of my country before either, so I suppose you can be pardoned.

[Crossing the lobby, she heads to a pair of eight foot tables leaning up against each other and the wall, fingers already curving over one edge.]

She's was born in Sokovia one or two hundred years ago. I'm not entirely familiar with her story but it's my understanding that she performed some miraculous feeding of the city's orphans during a famine or something of that nature.

[He follows her without truly giving the sense of having done so. He's learned to cultivate his actions to look like those of a leader even when he's walking in someone else's footsteps, standing on the shoulders of giants. He hefts his side of the table easily, and arranges himself so he'll be walking backwards. It's the gentlemanly thing to do and once upon a time, he lived that life.]

Is that what you intend? Feeding the wretched orphans among us?

[Hard to say if the thought amuses him or not.]
